A central hub for data science and data-intensive research at the University of Bristol

About us

The Jean Golding Institute (JGI) is a central hub for data science and data-intensive research at the University of Bristol. We connect a multidisciplinary community of experts across the University and beyond. Our main goals are to: Find data-driven solutions to societal challenges by promoting the use of data assets, data access and analytics to address societal challenges by putting people at the heart of data science. Explore data visualisation and materiality by investigating new ways of experiencing and understanding information to address research questions and helping researchers to imagine, see, feel and hear data. Develop communities through data by bringing together researchers, city and industrial partners to tackle challenges presented by novel and complex data sets. Support information commons by addressing data as a shared knowledge base, with a focus on current challenges and opportunities such as open data, licensing, Intellectual Property, data ethics, data linkage and privacy. Our 'Ask JGI' service provides data science expertise and advice to researchers at all stages of their careers within the university.
