🤝 Yesterday, ECF met with Maja Bakran and colleagues from European Commission's EU Transport (DG MOVE) to discuss the place of cycling tourism and Active Tourism within Europe’s 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚. 🚲 The exchange confirmed a shared understanding that cycling tourism brings 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 to the European Sustainable Tourism Strategy - economically, socially, and environmentally. 🙌 We also touched on how cycling tourism connects with wider EU priorities, from sport and health to accessibility and intergenerational travel, and why 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠-𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 frameworks will be essential to unlock its full potential. Overall, the meeting was a constructive step in positioning cycling tourism and EuroVelo, as a key part of a resilient, competitive, and future-proof tourism ecosystem in Europe. This discussion also contributes to the ongoing work of the 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, bringing together partners committed to sustainable and active forms of tourism across the EU and calling for the EU Sustainable Tourism Strategy to reflect it 👉 https://lnkd.in/enaKcTZK

💥 That's a wrap! The final project meeting of the Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Programme project ICTr-CE took place in Murska Sobota, Slovenia on 4 February. The ICTr-CE project, which involves 8 countries and 3,000 km of EuroVelo 13 – Iron Curtain Trail, aims to develop a new, innovative, participatory and sustainable cycling tourism product along the Iron Curtain Trail. During the meeting, partners discussed: 👉 the innovative tools developed during the project, such as the carbon footprint calculator, Impact Measurement System, and Good Impact Programme 👉 the latest EuroVelo website developments on our Tour Packages and Route Planner pages, which will soon be finalised 😍 👉 the long-term governance of EuroVelo 13 in the project area – stay tuned for the exciting developments 👀 🥳 The meeting ended with all partners and associated partners celebrating the signing of the ICTr-CE Alliance Declaration, which lays the framework for future cooperation amongst partners, building on the outputs of the project. 👉 Find out more about ICTr-CE and the tools developed during the project: https://lnkd.in/eiBwBMXd

💡 Wrapping up the first EuroVelo Council meeting of 2026 📍 The EuroVelo Council, the advisory body to the European Cyclists' Federation board on EuroVelo matters, met in Brussels on Thursday and Friday. 🚲 Together with presenting the activities in the 2026 work plan, we discussed the role of regions in EuroVelo development. 💛 Special thanks to Toerisme Vlaanderen - VISITFLANDERS for hosting the meeting and to Ewoud Lagring and Johan Vanswijgenhoven for introducing Flanders' strategies and activities to promote tourism and recreational cycling, and to NECSTouR's John Fitzgibbon for the exchange on cycling as part of climate action work and tourism policy as a whole.

🚴♀️🚶♂️🌍 Active Tourism Coalition launches!   Today a new Active Tourism Coalition — led by the 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬' 𝐅𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 and uniting 15 civil society and industry organisations — officially launched to call for stronger recognition of active tourism in Europe’s future tourism policies.   🚲🚶 Active tourism (cycling, walking, hiking) lets visitors experience destinations at a human scale, delivering low environmental impact, high social value, and strong local economic benefits. 🤓 The European Cyclists' Federation coordinates a group of experts on monitoring cycling tourism since 2024.   👏 The first meeting of 2026 involved 14 participants from 10 countries, with presentations by Fietsplatform and Pro Velo Belgium, two National EuroVelo Coordination Centres, which shared some interesting figures: 🚲 1 out of 3 Dutch people are cycling tourists in 2025 📈 27% of Dutch cycling tourists went on a cycle holiday for the first time in 2025 (there is room for growth!) 💡 There were two online surveys in 2025 in Belgium and the results of 500+ answers were aggregated 💸 Cycling tourists in Belgium spend an average of 100€/day 🖇️ Local cycle route networks (node-points) are very well used in combination with long-distance cycle routes 👌 89% of cycling tourists would recommend it to friends or family   ECF is building on its own and its partners' expertise to develop more and up-to-date knowledge on cycle routes and cycling tourism.
