A session is a mechanism to save data (in the form of variables) for usage on numerous pages. The information is not saved on the user's computer, unlike a cookie.

The different types of sessions that can be conducted include:

Session data is stored in the database using a technique called serialization. Serialization is the process of converting a data structure into a stream of bytes that can be sent over a communications channel.

The following are some of the benefits of using serialization:

  • It also makes it possible for multiple computers to share and update the same database
  • It's also easier to read and write sequential data, which means that it's easier to perform certain tasks like sorting, filtering, and grouping
