It\u00a0conceived at Intel in mid-2014 as an\u00a0open source project on GitHub from start and entered Apache incubation on March 8th, 2016. The name Gearpump is a reference to the engineering term \u201cgear pump\u201d which is a super simple pump that consists of only two gears, but is very powerful at streaming water. Different to other streaming engines, Gearpump\u2019s engine is event\/message based. Per initial benchmarks we are able to process 18 million messages per second (message length is 100 bytes) with a 8ms latency on a 4-node cluster.<\/p>\n<h2>The Highlights<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Extremely high throughput and low latency stream processing<\/li>\n<li>Configurable message delivery guarantee (at least once, exactly once)<\/li>\n<li>Application hot re-deployment<\/li>\n<li>Comprehensive Dashboard for application monitoring<\/li>\n<li>Native Storm Application compatibility<\/li>\n<li>Native Samoa Application compatibility<\/li>\n<li>Friendly and extensible APIs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Before you can submit and run your first Gearpump application, you will need a running Gearpump service. There are multiple ways to run Gearpump <a href=\"https:\/\/gearpump.apache.org\/releases\/latest\/deployment\/deployment-local\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Local mode<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/gearpump.apache.org\/releases\/latest\/deployment\/deployment-standalone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Standalone mode<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/gearpump.apache.org\/releases\/latest\/deployment\/deployment-yarn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YARN mode<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/gearpump.apache.org\/releases\/latest\/deployment\/deployment-docker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Docker mode<\/a>.<div style=\"display:inline-block; margin: 15px 0;\"> <div id=\"adngin-JavaCodeGeeks_incontent_video-0\" style=\"display:inline-block;\"><\/div> <\/div><\/p>\n<p>The easiest way is to run Gearpump in <a href=\"https:\/\/gearpump.apache.org\/releases\/latest\/deployment\/deployment-local\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Local mode<\/a>. Any Linux, MacOSX or Windows desktop can be used with zero configuration.<\/p>\n<p>In the example below, we assume your are running in <a href=\"https:\/\/gearpump.apache.org\/releases\/latest\/deployment\/deployment-local\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Local mode<\/a>. If you running Gearpump in one of the other modes, you will need to configure the Gearpump client to connect to the Gearpump service by setting the <code>gear.conf<\/code> configuration path in classpath. Within this file, you will need to change the parameter <code>gearpump.cluster.masters<\/code> to the correct Gearpump master(s).<\/p>\n<h3>Steps to submit your first Application<\/h3>\n<h2>Step 1: Submit Application<\/h2>\n<p>After the cluster is started, you can submit an example wordcount application to the cluster<\/p>\n<p>Open another shell,<\/p>\n<pre class=\" brush:java\">### To run WordCount example\r\nbin\/gear app -jar examples\/wordcount-2.11-0.8.4-assembly.jar org.apache.gearpump.streaming.examples.wordcount.WordCount<\/pre>\n<h2>Step 2: View Application Status and\u00a0Metrics.<\/h2>\n<p>To view the application status and metrics, start the Web UI services, and browse to <a href=\"http:\/\/127.0.0.1:8090\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/127.0.0.1:8090<\/a> to check the status.
