With the Google Plugin for Eclipse, it's even easier. The plugin lets you create, test and upload App Engine applications from within Eclipse.\">official plug-in<\/a> to Eclipse IDE alone.<\/p>\n<p>But what about the people who are not using Eclipse? Of course, you  can always do a command line development but who does that these days!?<\/p>\n<p>For <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/netbeans.org\/\">Netbeans<\/a><\/strong> users, the plug-in <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/kenai.com\/projects\/nbappengine\/pages\/Home\" title=\"Plugin enables J2EE development web modules on Google App Engine.\">nbappengine<\/a> <\/strong>brings  the Java app engine development to the Netbeans platform. Here\u2019s how  you can start developing your app engine apps on Netbeans.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Installing nbappengine plugin on Netbeans<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>First thing first: Install the latest Netbeans (6.9 at the time of typing these characters) and open the IDE.<\/li>\n<li>Go to <strong>Tools -&gt; Plugins -&gt; Settings <\/strong>and click \u201cAdd\u201d button to add the nbappengine update center URL.<\/li>\n<li>Now give a name and the URL of the update center according to your version of Netbeans.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Netbeans 6.9<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/kenai.com\/downloads\/nbappengine\/NetBeans69\/updates.xml\">http:\/\/kenai.com\/downloads\/nbappengine\/NetBeans69\/updates.xml<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Netbeans 6.8<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/kenai.com\/projects\/nbappengine\/downloads\/download\/Latest_NetBeans68\/updates.xml\">http:\/\/kenai.com\/projects\/nbappengine\/downloads\/download\/Latest_NetBeans68\/updates.xml<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Netbeans 6.7<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/kenai.com\/projects\/nbappengine\/downloads\/download\/1.0_NetBeans671\/updates.xml\">http:\/\/kenai.com\/projects\/nbappengine\/downloads\/download\/1.0_NetBeans671\/updates.xml<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>After adding it, now come back to the <strong>\u201cAvailable Plugins\u201d <\/strong>tab and do a search for \u201cGoogle\u201d. Select all the plug-ins that are related to the App Engine and click install button.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Configuring App Engine SDK with Netbeans<\/strong><br \/>\nNow you\u2019ve installed the nbappengine plugin on your Netbeans IDE.  &nbsp;The coming steps will tell you how you can configure the plugin with  the App Engine SDK.<div style=\"display:inline-block; margin: 15px 0;\"> <div id=\"adngin-JavaCodeGeeks_incontent_video-0\" style=\"display:inline-block;\"><\/div> <\/div><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Download the <a href=\"http:\/\/code.google.com\/appengine\/downloads.html#Google_App_Engine_SDK_for_Java\">App Engine SDK<\/a> for Java and extract the zip contents to your favorite location.<\/li>\n<li>In the Netbeans IDE, go to <strong>Services window <\/strong>(Ctrl + 5 is the shortcut key) and right click on the <strong>Servers <\/strong>menu and select \u201c<strong>Add Server<\/strong>\u201c.<\/li>\n<li>Now select the \u201c<strong>Google App Engine\u201d <\/strong>from the list of servers and in the next screen choose the folder where you extracted your SDK files.<\/li>\n<li>Configure the server properties if you wish to change it and then click \u201c<strong>Finish\u201d.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Creating and deploying your first App Engine app on Netbeans<\/strong><br \/>\nNow its the time to create a brand-new app engine application.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>In Netbeans, select \u201c<strong>File -&gt; New Project -&gt; Java Web -&gt; Web application\u201d <\/strong>and follow the wizard to create the project.<\/li>\n<li>In the \u201c<strong>Server and Settings\u201d <\/strong>page choose \u201c<strong>Google App Engine\u201d <\/strong>as your server so that you\u2019ll get the app-engine related files (such as appengine-web.xml) pre-created for you.<\/li>\n<li>When you run\/debug this application, Netbeans will start the app engine server (Jetty) and will deploy your application there.<\/li>\n<li>To deploy the application to the App Engine server, just right click on the project and choose \u201c<strong>Deploy to Google App Engine\u201d. <\/strong>it\u2019ll prompt you for the Google account credentials.
