Since it had been a few years that I used ActiveMQ I thought it would be nice to check out some of the (new) features like the <a href=\"http:\/\/activemq.apache.org\/failover-transport-reference.html\">failover<\/a> transport and <a href=\"http:\/\/activemq.apache.org\/clustering.html\">other clustering features<\/a>. To be able to test these last things I needed multiple installations of ActiveMQ on my machine. Luckily this isn\u2019t very hard to accomplish, although <a href=\"http:\/\/activemq.apache.org\/unix-shell-script.html\">the documentation on this<\/a> on the ActiveMQ site is quite minimal.<\/p>\n<p>The first step is to download and unzip the ActiveMQ package, which I did at ~\/develop\/apache-activemq-5.8.0.<\/p>\n<p>To create the instances I go to the activeMQ home directory and use the \u2018create\u2019 command like this:<\/p>\n<pre class=\" brush:bash\">cd develop\/apache-activemq-5.8.0\/\r\n.\/bin\/activemq create instanceA\r\n.\/bin\/activemq create instanceB\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>Now if you do a \u2018ls -l\u2019 you will see that there are two subdirectories created, \u2018instanceA\u2019 and \u2018instanceB\u2019. Since both instances will make use of the default ports we have to modify the config for the second instance. Go to the directory \u2018develop\/apache-activemq-5.8.0\/instanceB\/conf\u2019 and open the file \u2018jetty.xml\u2019 to make the webconsole available at port \u20198162\u2032 by modifying the following line:<div style=\"display:inline-block; margin: 15px 0;\"> <div id=\"adngin-JavaCodeGeeks_incontent_video-0\" style=\"display:inline-block;\"><\/div> <\/div><\/p>\n<pre class=\" brush:xml\">&lt;bean id=\"Connector\" class=\"org.eclipse.jetty.server.nio.SelectChannelConnector\"&gt;\r\n  &lt;property name=\"port\" value=\"8162\" \/&gt;\r\n&lt;\/bean&gt;<\/pre>\n<p>Next open the file \u2018activemq.xml\u2019 in the same directory and modify the following part:<\/p>\n<pre class=\" brush:xml\">&lt;transportConnectors&gt;\r\n  &lt;!-- DOS protection, limit concurrent connections to 1000 and frame size to 100MB --&gt;\r\n  &lt;transportConnector name=\"openwire\" uri=\"tcp:\/\/0.0.0.0:61617?maximumConnections=1000&amp;wireformat.maxFrameSize=104857600\"\/&gt;\r\n  &lt;transportConnector name=\"amqp\" uri=\"amqp:\/\/0.0.0.0:5673?maximumConnections=1000&amp;wireformat.maxFrameSize=104857600\"\/&gt;\r\n &lt;\/transportConnectors&gt;<\/pre>\n<p>That\u2019s it!
