IMO –
the International Maritime Organization – is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. IMO's work supports the UN sustainable development goals.
The IMO-European Union "Future-Ready Shipping in Africa" project is seeking maritime Government stakeholders, who will receive technical support for decarbonization and digitalization in sub-Saharan Africa.
Barbados is setting a pathway to exploring green shipping corridors to reduce emissions from shipping. The first step will be a pre-feasibility study, commissioned by IMO.
Colombia, Senegal and South Africa have been selected as 2026 partnering countries of the IMO GreenVoyage2050 programme, a technical cooperation programme supporting the implementation of the 2023 IMO GHG Strategy.
