Inflammatory Lipids as Novel Therapeutic Targets and Biomarkers for Acquired Hydrocephalus.
Dr. Shenandoah Robinson and Dr. Lauren Jantzie are a Professor and an Associate Professor, respectively, in the Departments of Neurosurgery, Neurology and Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University and Kennedy Krieger Institute. Their project involves testing a cocktail of oral medications that treats existing acquired hydrocephalus in animals. They will determine a minimally effective dose of the cocktail using a mouse model of posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus of prematurity and evaluate the lipid profile of repair and biomarkers of CSF health to guide treatment. The goal of the project is to reduce long-term shunt dependency for people with acquired hydrocephalus by supporting endogenous recovery of CSF dynamics with medications.
