Virat Kohli is the king of IPL fifties, and there is no one who can threaten his record in 2026. The 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is going to kick off on March 28, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru's Virat Kohli will look to consolidate his record of maximum fifties.

Kohli, who has been with the franchise since 2008, has 63 fifties to his name in 267 matches. He is being trailed by David Warner of Australia at 62, however, Warner hasn't been part of the league since last year, and now he plies his trade in the Pakistan Super League.

Former India batsman Shikhar Dhawan takes the third place at 51 fifties, and he too won't be seen in action either, having retired from all forms of real competitive cricket, which means Kohli finds himself in a great position to increase his lead at the top of the list. He is fit as a fiddle and understands the nuances of batting like very few do in this format.

His next two competitors are Rohit Sharma of Mumbai Indians and KL Rahul of Delhi Capitals. But they are far away at 47 and 40, respectively. No way can they threaten Kohli.

Last season, Kohli scored 8 fifties, his best season to date in that regard. Which is quite remarkable in the sense that he hasn't been at the top of his game for several seasons now. Is it any wonder that RCB, for the first time in their history, won the coveted trophy? Consistency matters!

His previous best season in terms of fifties was in 2016. He scored 7 fifties, and it was also the season where he set the record for most runs in a single edition. Kohli scored 973 runs and also hit four centuries. The record stands to date. Sadly, they were beaten by Warner's Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final.

Kohli was the lone guy to score four centuries in a season until 2022, when Rajasthan Royals' Jos Buttler equalled that record. Buttler has since switched his allegiance to Gujarat Titans.

2013 and 2023 were the seasons in which Kohli scored six fifties each. Let’s now check out who completes the top-10 list. AB de Villiers, Suresh Raina, Faf du Plessis, Gautam Gambhir and Ajinkya Rahane make up the top-10 with 40, 39, 39, 36 and 33, respectively.

De Villiers and Chris Gayle (31) played for RCB for the large part of their IPL career. These two and Kohli played several seasons together, but it may surprise all and sundry that despite boasting such an explosive batting power, the team could never win the title. The jinx finally got broken last year under the captaincy of Rajat Patidar.

The year 2008, the first season of the IPL, was the only time when Kohli failed to score any fifty. He played in 13 games. He was an up-and-coming player at the time, so it’s kind of understandable why he failed to make any real impressions. He has since turned into one of the greats of the game. However, Kohli would want to win more IPL trophies. Surely, just one trophy in such a long career is not going to satiate him.
