Fellowships in Interdisciplinary Studies

Guggenheim Fellowships have always celebrated artists, scholars, and scientists whose work transcends boundaries. The category of Interdisciplinary Studies explicitly acknowledges Fields of Study that engage with two or more disciplines.

In 1927, we offered our first Fellowship in Asian Studies, which intersects with fields ranging from history to religion to literature—and beyond. In 2025, we named our inaugural Fellows in Climate Studies, Indigenous Studies, and Slavic Studies—a formal recognition of fields we have supported for years. We will continue to introduce new interdisciplinary areas as they emerge.

As our world and its challenges grow increasingly complex, Interdisciplinary Studies might be more vital than ever.
