RingCentral is one of today’s most popular voice-over-internet-protocol (VoIP) telephony providers. Its business phone system software, RingEX, enables team collaboration and customer communications through voice, SMS, messaging and video meetings. However, the RingEX phone system offers several pricing plans with different features, integrations, communication channels and prices. This can make it tricky to know which RingEX plan provides the best value for your company.
In this article, we’ll outline everything you need to know about RingCentral’s plans and pricing.
RingCentral RingEX Pricing Plans
RingCentral offers three RingEX plans, which vary from $20 to $45 depending on whether you opt for monthly or annual pricing. Each higher-tier plan adds more features and advanced capabilities, including analytics, a larger meeting capacity and more sophisticated AI tools.
The table and sections below outline the differences between RingCentral’s RingEX plans and pricing tiers.

RingEX Core
Price per user: $20 per month (paid annually) or $30 per month (paid monthly)
Best for: Small companies seeking team collaboration and basic inbound call routing
RingCentral RingEX Core Plan | |
---|---|
Key Features | What’s Missing? |
Unlimited calling in the U.S. and Canada, team messaging, SMS and video meetings | CRM integrations |
IVR menu and basic queueing | Business analytics |
Google and Microsoft integrations | Advanced queues with call routing |
The RingEX Core plan includes all the main communication channels—voice, texting, video and team messaging—though it limits each user to a very restrictive 25 monthly SMS. At $30 per user per month, this plan provides above-average value due to its intelligent AI features, including real-time transcription and summaries for calls and video. Many alternatives reserve these features for higher-tier plans or don’t offer AI at all.
While the core plan doesn’t let you use advanced rules to customize call routing, it still includes IVR and call queues, which can handle inbound calling needs for most small businesses. Since this plan lacks analytics and CRM integrations, it’s a good fit for smaller companies seeking internal collaboration, AI agent support and call routing—without the need for advanced customer insights.

Team chat messaging promotes collaboration and comes with RingEX’s Core plan.
RingEX Advanced
Price per user: $25 per month (paid annually) or $35 per month (paid monthly)
Best for: Teams seeking to provide more intricate customer service with customer data and advanced call-handling tools
RingCentral RingEX Advanced Plan | |
---|---|
Key Features | What’s Missing? |
Call monitoring | Customizable analytics dashboards |
Business Analytics Essentials | 200-participant video meeting capacity |
CRM integrations (Salesforce, Zendesk, HubSpot, Microsoft Dynamics) | Unlimited storage for transcriptions, files, etc. |
RingEX’s Advanced plan adds tools for supervisor visibility, workflow automations and customer insights. The Call Monitoring capability lets supervisors see each agent’s activity status, with the option to listen quietly or intervene on calls. The Business Analytics portal displays KPIs regarding call volume, channel usage and agent activity levels. For remote teams with multiple queues and departments or those who handle many calls, these features boost your phone system to make it feel more like a customer service call center.
If your team uses a CRM system such as Salesforce or HubSpot, you’ll benefit from the integration included with this plan. It syncs data and activity across apps—letting you make calls directly from Salesforce and log call transcripts for each customer. If you want to understand your customers more deeply, the Advanced plan is worth the $5 monthly increase, which isn’t too big of a jump.

RingCentral’s Salesforce integration syncs call capabilities and data across apps and comes with the Advanced plan.
RingEX Ultra
Price per user: $35 per month (paid annually) or $45 per month (paid monthly)
Best for: Large companies seeking whole-team meetings, unlimited storage and customizable analytics
RingCentral RingEX Ultra | |
---|---|
Key Features | What’s Missing? |
Customizable analytics | Live queue dashboards (add-on) |
200-participant video meetings | Unlimited SMS |
Unlimited storage | Real-time AI assistance |
The Ultra plan’s added features are somewhat underwhelming for the $10 price jump. The customizable analytics allow excellent flexibility in your data display options, but I found RingCentral’s regular analytics sufficient. This plan may be worth the price increase for large teams that will utilize the unlimited storage space and expanded meeting capacity. Otherwise, most of RingCentral’s best features are included in the Core plan—at half the cost.
My biggest disappointment with RingCentral is its monthly SMS restrictions, which cap you at 200 monthly texts per user on the Ultra plan. By comparison, alternatives such as Zoom Phone, Aircall and Google Voice enable much higher limits or unlimited SMS.

RingCentral’s Ultra plan lets you combine KPI widgets to create custom analytics dashboards.
Additional RingCentral Costs
When signing up for RingCentral, you may incur additional charges in several ways. These include hidden phone system fees, exceeding your monthly text allotment, paid add-ons, international calling and extra DID phone numbers for users.
Here’s a further breakdown of how your RingCentral phone system may incur additional costs beyond the listed monthly rate:
Hidden Fees and Taxes
When you sign up for a cloud-based business phone system, your final monthly bill will add tax fees beyond the posted monthly price. These include an e911 tax, utility tax, state-based VoIP surcharges and others.
Generally, these hidden fees add roughly $5 monthly per user to the provider’s publicized rate. For example, the RingEX Advanced plan’s final cost will be $40 monthly per user, with taxes—rather than the publicized $35. These fees and taxes are inevitable and vary slightly depending on the state where your business is based.
SMS Texting
Each RingCentral plan includes a monthly per-user SMS allowance: 25 on the Core plan, 100 with Advanced and 200 with Ultra. However, if you want to send additional SMS beyond these limits, RingCentral offers per-minute SMS rates.
Inbound and outbound SMS cost 0.85 cent per message, beyond each user’s monthly limit. International texting incurs even higher rates, depending on the country you text.
Add-Ons
Beyond each plan’s monthly rate, RingCentral offers paid add-on features à la carte. These add-ons enable specific capabilities that enhance customer service and sync with your RingEX phone system.
Here’s a quick rundown of RingCentral’s add-on features.
- Revenue intelligence ($60 monthly per user): Also called RingSense, this AI technology syncs with your CRM system to provide revenue and sales insights for agents and supervisors.
- RingCentral Webinar ($40 monthly per organizer): Transforms your video meetings into webinars with branding and marketing tools, analytics and additional in-meeting features such as Q&As.
- Queue reports (custom pricing): Provides supervisors with a live queue dashboard displaying the number of calls waiting, average wait time and other customer-service statistics.
- RingCX Contact Center ($65 monthly per user): This adds contact center functionality, including live chat and chatbots, an autodialer and customer surveys.
- Additional phone numbers ($5 per number): Purchase additional virtual toll-free or local phone numbers from area codes around the U.S. or the globe.
International Calling
While RingCentral plans support unlimited calling in the U.S. and Canada, you must pay an additional per-minute rate for any calls to users based outside of this area. These rates vary from 2 cents to over 20 cents per minute, depending on where you call.
If your company frequently places international calls, alternative phone systems such as 8×8 and Intermedia Unite bundle large international calling areas into their monthly rates.
How To Save Money on RingCentral
Beyond opting for a lower-tier pricing plan, RingCentral generally does not offer discounts or ways to reduce your monthly cost. However, you can lower your monthly rate by billing annually, rather than monthly. Further, teams of over 100 users may receive large-volume discounts.
Subscribe to Annual Plans
RingCentral offers annual and monthly billing options for each plan. The once-yearly billing option reduces each plan’s cost by $10 monthly per user, ensuring you get the lowest rate possible.
Large User Count
RingCentral offers custom pricing for teams of over 100 users. While this option is unachievable for small companies, large teams may be able to negotiate a lower per-user rate with the RingCentral Sales staff.
RingCentral Cost vs. Competitors
While RingEX is one of the most popular cloud phone systems available today, several VoIP competitors offer different pricing, user experience and features. Alternative platforms—such as Dialpad, Zoom Phone and Aircall—may provide better value for particular business use cases.

RingCentral RingEX vs. Dialpad
Dialpad’s plans are slightly cheaper than RingCentral’s—but both provide similar features and good value overall. Both platforms have AI call transcription and the same communication channels, though Dialpad’s meetings have a 10-participant capacity. Further, RingCentral has better team-chat features, including the ability to assign tasks and deadlines. This makes RingCentral a better value for companies that plan to utilize the team collaboration features heavily, but Dialpad is better for those prioritizing low cost.
RingCentral RingEX vs. Zoom Phone
Zoom Phone’s pricing plans are an excellent value, at roughly half of RingCentral’s monthly cost. Zoom Phone offers solid features too, such as IVR menus, call queues and team chat. The main drawback is that it doesn’t include video meetings, although Zoom’s UCaaS platform, Zoom Workplace, does. RingCentral is a better value for companies that want multichannel team collaboration, while Zoom is more cost-effective for companies focused on unlimited calling and SMS in the U.S.
RingCentral RingEX vs. Aircall
Compared to RingCentral, Aircall costs $10 to $30 more monthly per user, depending on your chosen plan. This is a big price jump. Aircall’s main advantage is its advanced call center features, including an autodialer, queue callbacks and a much higher SMS allotment than RingCentral offers. However, RingCentral’s communication channels make it a better and more cost-effective option for team collaboration.
Aircall is only worth the additional cost if you don’t mind paying extra to boost your phone-based customer support and sales efforts.

Our Expert Opinion
RingCentral may be the most feature-rich unified communications platform and VoIP system available. It includes AI features, user-friendly call-routing tools, unlimited calling in the U.S. and multiple communication channels for team collaboration. While there are cheaper alternatives—such as Zoom Phone, OpenPhone and Grasshopper—RingCentral is among the most affordable. Among RingCentral’s plans, the Core plan will offer the best value for most teams due to its wide variety of features, channels and low cost.
