At ExpertSure, our job is to help you pick the right business services and suppliers — quickly, confidently, and with no fluff. This page explains how we research, review, and recommend providers, and how we keep our work accurate, fair, and independent.
Our Principles
- Accuracy first. We verify claims against primary sources, check pricing and features directly on provider websites, and note limitations or hidden costs.
- Independence. Our editorial team decides what to cover and what to recommend. Commercial arrangements don’t determine our picks.
- Usefulness over hype. We focus on what matters in real-world use: costs, key features, contract terms, support, and ease of setup.
- Transparency. If we earn money from a referral or lead you submit on our site, we tell you (see “How We Make Money” below).
How We Choose What to Review
For each vertical (merchant accounts, HR software, payroll, vehicle tracking, etc.), we build a comprehensive provider list based on:
- Market presence — active UK operations with verifiable contact details and Companies House registration
- Product availability — currently accepting new UK customers (not sunset or US-only products)
- Pricing transparency — published pricing or willingness to provide quotes through standard channels
- Minimum review coverage — sufficient public reviews (Trustpilot, G2, Capterra) to assess customer experience
We typically compare 6–24 providers per vertical. Our largest verticals (vehicle tracking, merchant accounts) include 20+ providers; niche verticals may cover fewer. We do not accept payment for inclusion in our comparisons.
How We Research and Test
Our research depth scales with the complexity and impact of the decision. We adapt our evaluation methods to match how businesses actually buy in each category.
- Hands-on use (where appropriate). We trial software, request demos, set up test accounts, or mystery-shop sales and support to see how tools work before and after you sign.
- Deep-dive evaluation. We analyse pricing tiers, contract terms, integrations, security, and onboarding. We look for total cost of ownership, not just headline prices.
- User feedback. We seek out legitimate user feedback and speak with customers to understand performance over time.
- Vendor input. We invite vendors to clarify features and roadmaps. Their input is considered — but never guarantees inclusion or a recommendation.
- Pricing verification. All pricing in our guides is checked directly against the provider’s own website. Where pricing is vague or gated behind a sales call, we say so clearly. If we can’t verify a figure, we remove it or mark it as unverified.
How We Compare Providers
We score providers against consistent criteria for the category, typically including:
- Core features and performance
- Pricing and contract flexibility
- Onboarding and ease of use
- Integrations and scalability
- Support and service quality
Weighting and emphasis may vary by category and business size. Scores guide our “Best for…” picks (e.g., best for startups, best for multi-site teams), so you can match a choice to your situation without reading every review.
Reviews, Updates and Corrections
We regularly re-check our guides to keep pricing, features, and recommendations current. The “Prices verified” date on each guide shows when we last confirmed the data against provider websites.
- Updates. We re-check key pages based on market changes, user feedback, and when we’re alerted to significant changes (price increases, feature launches, acquisitions, rebrands).
- Corrections. If we get something wrong, we fix it promptly and add a correction note when material.
- Process evolution. Our editorial processes continue to evolve as we grow. We’re committed to transparency about any significant changes to our approach.
If you spot an inaccuracy, please let us know and we’ll verify and correct it.
AI Use
We sometimes use AI-assisted tools for tasks like brainstorming angles, outlining, or grammar checks. All published guides go through editorial review, and all facts and recommendations are verified against primary sources before publication.
Advertiser and Affiliate Disclosure (How We Make Money)
ExpertSure may receive compensation when you click a link, submit a quote form, or purchase from a provider. This helps keep our content free. Compensation does not determine our recommendations or the order of our top picks. We label sponsored placements clearly, and editorial staff have the final say on content.
However, commercial relationships never influence our editorial recommendations:
- We review and recommend providers that do not have affiliate partnerships with us
- Our rankings are based on features, pricing, customer reviews, and suitability — not commission rates
- Providers cannot pay for higher placement in our comparison tables
- We clearly label affiliate links and disclose our commercial relationships on every guide
Our goal is to help UK businesses make informed decisions. If our recommendations stopped being trustworthy, we’d lose the readers that make the whole model work.
