Submissions

Econlib publishes short-form and timely pieces on its EconLog website and longer-form articles on Econlib. These pieces employ the economic way of thinking to illuminate the world and improve readers’ understanding of economic concepts and policy issues. We welcome submissions from many viewpoints, but are anchored by our commitment to a free society grounded in liberty, responsibility, and the rule of law.

Although Econlib commissions many contributions, especially for articles, we also accept unsolicited submissions. We are not interested in “hot takes” or explainers of current events. However, we are interested in content that analyzes current events in ways that expand readers’ understanding of a problem or concept. We do not publish content that offers specific partisan endorsements. Econlib and EconLog may occasionally solicit multi-part series on a single subject, but we generally do not accept unsolicited submissions for this type of writing.

EconLog submissions should be 750–1,000 words in length and use hyperlinks for most references. Articles should be 1,500–2,000 words in length and use footnotes for references. All submissions are subject to an editorial process. We do not accept submissions where any substantial part has been published elsewhere. We do not publish pieces that have been wholly or partially generated by artificial intelligence. The ideas and the language of all submissions must be the author’s.

Please send your submission as a Word attachment or Google Doc to [email protected]. Include a brief summary of the piece in the body of the email. Email submissions will receive a response within five working days.
