Supporting the transition towards Open Science in the arts and humanities

Having a vision and a strong commitment to open research has always been important to DARIAH as it brings on collaborative and innovative means of digitally-enabled research.

We believe that Open Science works best when it is deeply situated in different disciplinary practices. Therefore, one of our missions is to bridge the gap between the core principles and values of Open Science (such as transparency, equality, innovation and social-cognitive justice in knowledge creation) and the actual community practices in a wide variety of arts and humanities disciplines.

This includes:

  • Providing a strong voice for arts and humanities research communities to be heard in European and national policy debates on the future of science and scholarly communication.
  • Supporting our communities in navigating themselves in this whole new world and providing Open Science advocacy to them in all career stages and levels of expertise.
  • Making arts and humanities’ contributions to Open Scholarship more visible both inside and outside the arts and humanities research communities.
  • Establishing partnerships and liaising with other Open Science stakeholders to optimize the environment for arts and humanities research.

Open Science partnerships

Situating and defining the role of DARIAH within the colourful network of European or global Open Science actors gives us the opportunity to engage with a wide range of stakeholders and join forces with them for supporting the transition towards open research cultures.
