Methods of embedding CycleStreets in other sites

We offer a modern, cloud-based service to embed our routing in your site.

This is a supported service which attracts a fee (except for small, non-profit organisations).

In all cases, the hosting and running of the site is done by CycleStreets, not the organisation, as setup would be time-consuming and mean the system goes out of date due to ongoing developments.

White label sites

We offer a simple-to-embed, modern journey planning system, offering:

  • A choice of map styles, including a dedicated active travel map showing official routes
  • Our world-leading routing, providing the most detailed cycle routing available
  • A-B(-C..) routing for cycling, with fastest, quietest, and balanced routes
  • A new e-bike option
  • Walk routing, if wished
  • Shows distance, time, CO2 saving, and calories burnt for each route
  • An option to add A-A leisure routing, where users specify a point they will return to and a time/distance, as well optional POIs on route (paid option)
  • Points of interest (a choice of 50 categories available)
  • Featured locations layer
  • Featured leisure routes, with a self-service interface for you to add/edit these, including photos
  • Easy to embed in any CMS, usually without even needing your IT team
  • Permalinks, so you can link directly to journey results
  • Printable view of journeys, as well as GPX output

Technical

To embed the site, we will provide you with a snippet of HTML which will load the relevant files from our system. These are loaded into the page via Javascript. This is the same industry-standard method as used by sites like YouTube and many others.

The embed code is CMS-agnostic, so as long as you can paste in HTML into your system (which is the norm), it will work.

You will probably wish to set a small number of options relating to the look and feel, e.g. rounded corners or aspects of the colour scheme. These will be set as options in the embed code.

Existing customers can upgrade for free to this newer offering while their contract is active.
