Bus Contention Faults

In systems where multiple devices share a common data or address bus, bus contention occurs when two or more devices drive opposing logic states at the same time. This can lead to unstable signals, increased power consumption, or even damaged components.

The new version introduces a highly requested feature—a new model type for untested devices—which streamlines testing by allowing devices that are not involved in boundary-scan to be classified as “Exclude.” This designation indicates that the devices have been reviewed but will not be included in testing, saving valuable time during the development phase.

In addition to this new functionality, ScanExpress version 10.9.0 brings a series of bug fixes and performance improvements across multiple ScanExpress applications. These updates help ensure continued stability and better user experience for all users. Corelis, Inc., Cerritos, CA, October 29, 2018 – Corelis, the leading supplier of high-performance boundary-scan test and measurement tools, has announced the availability of version 9.0 of its ScanExpress™ Boundary-Scan Tool Suite. This new software update supports several new devices, is better integrated with third-party software, and allows new test coverage visualization.

Featured enhancements to ScanExpress™ 9.0 include the memory model format which has been overhauled to support command sequencing, additional metadata, and improved differential pin handling. These new features allow for more descriptive memory models while at the same time significantly reducing file size and simplifying the process of creating and modifying models for complex memory devices like DDR4 SDRAM.

ScanExpress™ Viewer can now overlay test coverage data on top of CAD and photographs for visual analysis of boundary-scan test coverage. Coverage reports created by ScanExpress™ DFT Analyzer can be imported into ScanExpress™ Viewer to color-code pins based on “Complete,” “Partial,” “None,” and “Undefined” coverage classifications. Color-coding is customizable, and this feature can be used with or without a photograph.

Another new feature is that ScanExpress™ TPG scripts can now call IEEE-1149.1-2013-compliant procedure description language (PDL) files, allowing procedures to be executed from a ScanExpress™ Runner test plan. Two new script functions, load_pdl() and tcl_eval(), can now be used to load and execute PDL or standard TCL scripts.

ScanExpress™ JET and ScanExpress™ Programmer (Target Assisted Programmer module) now support NAND flash programming with Xilinx Zynq 7000 series All Programmable SoCs. NAND-flash support supplements the existing Xilinx Zynq SPI NOR flash programming and basic JET CPU support.

ScanExpress™ Runner now includes both 32-bit and 64-bit DLLs for integration with a wider variety of third-party systems. This means 64-bit versions of popular suites like LabVIEW and MATLAB can call the ScanExpress™ Runner DLL natively as well as integrate with customer 64-bit applications.

ScanExpress Software Operating System Support

Microsoft has declared that support for the Windows XP operating system has ended as of April 8, 2014; no further security updates and technical support will be provided. As a result, many organizations are upgrading their infrastructure with new systems running Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, and Windows 10 operating systems.

End of Support for Windows XP

Since Corelis can no longer guarantee compatibility with unsupported Microsoft operating systems, ScanExpress CD Version 8.3 will be the last version of ScanExpress Corelis supported and tested on Windows XP operating systems. Future releases will no longer be tested and supported in Windows XP; it is possible that ScanExpress software releases will work with older operating systems, but they will not be tested by Corelis for compatibility and customers using Windows XP will not be supported.

Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, and Windows 10

The current release of ScanExpress software is supported under Microsoft Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, and Windows 10 operating systems. Earlier ScanExpress software versions were not tested in and may not function correctly in these environments. Table 1 below lists individual ScanExpress application versions and their support status.

The latest software can be downloaded from the Corelis download page with a current maintenance contract. 32-bit and 64-bit Compatibility

ScanExpress tools and controller SFLs are 32-bit application compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows. However, the APIs associated with these tools may not be linked by a 64-bit executable system such as LabVIEW 64-bit. For the latest information on 64-bit compatibility for APIs, please contact Corelis support at [email protected].

Current Hardware Support

Current Corelis controllers can be used with both 64-bit and 32-bit versions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, and Windows 10 using the latest drivers (installed with the latest ScanExpress CD). Current controllers are listed in Table 2.

Legacy Hardware Support

Legacy Corelis controllers may work on 32-bit versions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, and Windows 10, but are untested and unsupported and may be removed in future software updates. Replacement controllers should be selected from Table 2 above, or contact Corelis sales at [email protected] for a recommendation.
