Professional Career
Martin has been Managing Director of Copernicus Meetings and Open Access Publications since November 2004. Since April 2007, it has been his sole responsibility to run all businesses at Copernicus and to coordinate all developments. Martin speaks regularly at conferences on open access publishing and open data, and provides workshops for librarians and stakeholders. Martin has contributed to many working groups dealing with open access financing, transparent peer-review approaches, and data citation.
Professional Activities
Co-founder of the Open Access Scholarly Publisher Association – OASPA (2008), advisory board member of the Directory of Open Access Journals – DOAJ (since 2012), member of the Publications Committee of the European Geosciences Union – EGU (since 2006), and Programme Committee executive member of the EGU (since 2005).
Education
Martin studied geoinformatics, environmental chemistry and physics at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, Germany, 1999–2004. He completed his MSc in hydrology and worked in system analysis and modelling, with specialization in soil water movement, before he joined Copernicus to organize conferences and publish freely accessible scientific journals.
