Unlock Potential! Campaign

For more than a decade, the Children’s Museum of Sonoma County has championed the power of inclusive, playful learning experiences that empower young minds and prepare children for the future. The Children’s Museum has always operated as a beacon of hope where imaginations are sparked, learning flourishes, and lasting memories are created.

Here, kids put down their screens in favor of hands-on, unstructured play, sparking curiosity and real-world discovery. The Children’s Museum—where imagination and learning come alive in the company of loved ones—is needed now more than ever.

Current Challenges

Since opening in 2014, the Children’s Museum of Sonoma County has grown from welcoming 70,000 annual visitors to nearly 200,000 last year. It is the only hands-on discovery and STEM learning center along Highway 101 between the Golden Gate Bridge and California’s northern border and offers a powerful, local response to the rising national and regional crisis in children’s ability to focus and learn.

Today, the Museum is bursting at the seams. Our current indoor space is only 5,000 square feet—far below the national average of 30,000 square feet for institutions serving similar sized communities. On weekends, we welcome 700–800 guests daily; during holidays and special events, that number often exceeds 1,200.

  • No space for new STEM exhibits to better engage children ages 8 – 12
  • Crowded indoor galleries and insufficient facilities to accommodate guests
  • Waiting list for school fieldtrips and extremely limited multi-purpose space

Solution: EXPANSION

Expansion is not a luxury. It is a necessity. The Unlock Potential! campaign is a call to action, an investment in the future of our community and its most precious resource — children. Together, we can empower every child’s future in Sonoma County. Donate now.
