Discover LeakCheck, the user-friendly Windows software for protecting your digital identity. With LeakCheck, you can securely check your passwords and email addresses for known data breaches – quickly, intuitively, and directly on your PC, without any sensitive data leaving your system.
A special highlight: the integrated password check. LeakCheck securely matches your passwords against the Have I Been Pwned database and instantly shows whether your credentials have been compromised. This allows you to identify risks early and take action in time. With the Professional Edition, you also benefit from automatic monitoring of your passwords and email addresses – whenever a new data breach is detected, LeakCheck opens automatically and notifies you immediately.
A special feature: the secure k-anonymity check method. Your passwords are never transmitted in plain text – instead, only an anonymized hash fragment is sent to the Have I Been Pwned API. This ensures reliable results without compromising your security. Whether simple or complex passwords – LeakCheck checks all entries quickly and reliably against millions of known data breaches.
With LeakCheck, simply add your email addresses to the monitoring list and check them against the Have I Been Pwned database with a single click. For each affected address, you instantly see which data breaches it has appeared in – including the name, title, and date of each breach. This keeps you fully informed about all risks and allows you to respond quickly and effectively.
The clear dashboard of LeakCheck gives you an instant overview of the security status of your passwords and accounts. Safe and compromised entries are displayed separately – including the total number of detected data breaches. This allows you to immediately see where action is needed and set priorities accordingly.
All data stored in LeakCheck – passwords and email addresses – is saved exclusively on your local PC. To protect against unauthorized access, LeakCheck uses the Windows Data Protection API (DPAPI), which encrypts your data with a key tied to your Windows user account. This keeps your sensitive data protected even if someone else gains access to your PC.
LeakCheck is completely free for private use. The Professional Edition extends LeakCheck with automatic background monitoring – LeakCheck automatically checks your passwords and email addresses at regular intervals and notifies you immediately as soon as a new data breach is detected. Question: Login data lost, what to do now?
Answer: Request new login details – simply enter your email address to receive them within seconds.
Question: LeakCheck found a data breach for one of my passwords – what does this mean and what should I do?
Answer: If LeakCheck reports a data breach for a password, it means that this password has appeared in a known data breach and is circulating in public databases. Attackers can use it for so-called credential stuffing attacks – automated attempts to log in to various services using the leaked password.
You should change the affected password as quickly as possible on all services where you use it. Use a unique, strong password for each service and enable two-factor authentication (2FA) wherever possible. A password manager can help you create and manage secure passwords.
Question: LeakCheck found a data breach for one of my email addresses – what does this mean and what should I do?
Answer: If LeakCheck reports a data breach for an email address, it means that this address – along with additional data such as passwords, names, or phone numbers – has been compromised in a known data breach. LeakCheck shows you exactly which service was affected and when the breach became known.
First, check whether you still have an account with the affected service and change your password there immediately. If you use the same password on other services, change it there as well. Also be vigilant about phishing emails, as your address may be exploited for targeted attacks. Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) wherever possible to further secure your accounts.
Question: How many email address checks can I take?
Answer: In LeakCheck, up to 100 e-mail addresses can be saved. Since each e-mail address is checked individually, one request equals one address – for example, 5 saved addresses result in 5 requests. The following limits apply:
Standard Edition: 3 requests per minute, maximum 30 per day
Professional Edition: 10 requests per minute, maximum 100 per day
If the respective limit is reached, further requests might be temporarily rejected and can only be made again after the corresponding time period has elapsed.
If you require different limits for your use case, please feel free to contact us at [email protected].
Password checks are not subject to any limits and can be performed as often as desired.
