Raye Dawn Smith was convicted and sentenced in late 2007 for enabling child abuse; because she should have known her daughter was being abused by her then husband. After months of fighting to get her daughter back after numerous anonymous calls by Kelsey's paternal family Kelsey was murdered and sexually abuse on October 11, 2005 by her stepfather's Mike Porter. Raye Dawn Smith was fooled by a wolf in a sheep's clothing, Mike Porter was known as a good father and family man, she married him believing she and Kelsey would have a good stable life. Instead he tore her world apart. She has been crucified and vilified in the media after a witch-hunt led by Kelsey's paternal grandmother Kelsey Briggs, the mother of Lance Briggs. Lance Briggs has been placed on a pedestal for his military service in which he was supposedly in Iraq when Kelsey's death occurred the truth is that he was in a rehab facility in Georgia. Everything about this case is tragic, from the death of a beautiful baby girl, the conviction of an innocent mother who's only "crime" was being naive to the praising of the family who led the media crucifixion the same paternal family who met on more than one occasion and spoke hundreds of times with Kelsey's murderer after her death, all to get Raye Dawn in Jail (in Kathie's words).
There are always two sides to every story, and once people are able to look through the sad (staged) photos of Kelsey's portrayed "abuse" they will clearly see that Raye Dawn did everything she could to figure out what was wrong with her daughter, all the while being fooled by her husband.
