Figure 12 Consider the difference where we have set 623 = 1/4. We search for energy and path length ranges where this difference is large. We expect the energy range to be range of resonance, from the first term. This is nearly true. The fourth term, which has a negative sign, is zero when the phase (1.27632L/E) ~ nm. Hence the above difference is likely to be large for those energies which are in the resonance energy range and for which the phase condition is satisfied.
