Virtual Router

The complexity of network management is widely recognized as one of the biggest challenges facing the Internet today. Point solutions for individual problems further increase system complexity while not addressing the underlying causes. In this paper, we argue that many network-management problems stem from the same root cause-the need to maintain consistency between the physical and logical configuration of the routers. Hence, we propose VROOM (Virtual ROuters On the Move), a new network-management primitive that avoids unnecessary changes to the logical topology by allowing (virtual) routers to freely move from one physical node to another. In addition to simplifying existing network-management tasks like planned maintenance and service deployment, VROOM can also help tackle emerging challenges such as reducing energy consumption. We present the design, implementation, and evaluation of novel migration techniques for virtual routers with either hardware or software data planes. Our evaluation shows that VROOM is transparent to routing protocols and results in no performance impact on the data traffic when a hardware-based data plane is used.

Network on chip (NOC) is used to connect Multiple Cores in a tiled multicore Processor. Here each core is connected to L1 cache where LLC (L2) is shared by the entire core. The data in the Last Level Cache slices can be accessed by multiple cores simultaneously and results in congestion at the LLC and increases the access time .So in order to find a solution to this problem, Propose a congestion management Technique in the LLC that contains NOC Router with small storage (Router Buffer Cache) to keep a copy of heavily shared cache blocks. The simulation of the Multicore system can be done by Gem5 tool and evaluate its effectiveness by running a set of parallel benchmarks , Thereby Reducing the LLC access Time "

— In network virtualization environments (NVEs), the physical infrastructure is shared among different users (or service providers) who create multiple virtual networks (VNs). As part of VN provisioning, virtual routers (VRs) are created inside physical routers supporting virtualization. Currently, the management of NVEs is mostly realized by proprietary solutions. Heterogeneous NVEs (i.e., with different equipment and technologies) are difficult to manage due to the lack of standardized management solutions. As a first step to achieve management interoperability, good performance, and high scalability, we implemented, evaluated, and compared four management interfaces for physical routers that host virtual ones. The interfaces are based on SNMP (v2c and v3), NETCONF, and RESTful Web Services, and are designed to perform three basic VR management operations: VR creation, VR retrieval, and VR removal. We evaluate these interfaces with regard to the following metrics: response time, CPU time, memory consumption, and network usage. Results show that the SNMPv2c interface is the most suitable one for small NVEs without strict security requirements and NETCONF is the best choice to compose a management interface to be deployed in more realistic scenarios, where security and scalability are major concerns.

The shortcomings of conventional bus architectures are in terms of scalability and the ever increasing demand of more bandwidth. And also the feature size of sub-micron domain is decreasing making it difficult for bus architectures to fulfill the requirements of modern System on Chip (SoC) systems. Network on chip (NoC) architectures presents a solution to the earlier mentioned shortcomings by employing a packet based network for inter IP communications. A pivotal feature of NoC systems is the topology in which the system is arranged. Several parameters which are topology dependent like hop count, path diversity, degree and other various parameters affect the system performance. We propose a novel topology forNoC architecture which has been thoroughly compared with the existing topologies on the basis of different network parameters.

In recent years, various non-linear phenomena of the Internet have been discovered. For instance, it is reported that congestion of a router propagates to neighboring routers like a wave. Several researches on congestion propagation among routers have been performed. However, in these researches, cause of congestion propagation and condition that congestion propagation occurs have not been sufficiently investigated. In this paper, we reveal a cause of congestion propagation, and also investigate under what conditions congestion propagation is observed. Consequently, we show that speed of congestion propagation is affected by the bandwidth and the propagation delay of links, and that periodicity of congestion propagation becomes less obvious as randomness of network traffic increases.
