Spectral Analysis of Voice Disorders

Asparagus racemosus is an important medicinal plant. Its medicinal usages has been reported in Indian and British pharmacopoeias. Qualitative preliminary phytochemical analysis was performed on the crude extract for the presence of bioactive compounds. The pure compound isolated to the Column chromatography and purified this compound by Thin Layer Chromatography with suitable solvent systems and visualizing reagents. Structure elucidation of pure compound has been accomplished through the extensive use of UV-Visible, IR, 1 HNMR and Mass spectroscopy. Phytochemistry and spectral analysis showed the presence of steroidal saponin in Asparagus racemosus leaves extract.

With One Voice: Disambiguating Sung and Spoken Voices Through a Composer’s Experience.

Mary Midgley has pointed out how our drive towards specialisation has led us to value the differences between things over their connections. The voice is largely dislodged from educational development and has been divided by isolationist practices in and within music and speech. Technology has allowed microscopic details of the voice to become public property whilst the athletic, full-voiced singer moves ever closer to Lucie Manén’s  “…one timbre, according to their own psychological make-up.” I will discuss my experience of these issues in my work with singers of all styles, actors and the synthetic voice. . In relation to the title of this paper, I propose the disambiguation of spoken and sung words requires re-synthesis.

Stress induced by various types of situation leads to vocal signal modifications. Previous studies have indicated that stressed speech is associated with a higher fundamental frequency and noticeable changes in vowel spectrum. This paper presents pitch-and spectral-based analyses of stressed speech corpora drawn from both artificial and real situations. The laboratory corpus is obtained by means of the Stroop test, the real-case corpus is extracted from the Cockpit Voice Recording of a crashed aeroplane. Analyses relative to pitch are presented and an index of microprosodic variation, CL, is introduced. Spectrum-related indicators of stress are issued from a cumulative histogram of sound level and from statistical analyses of formant frequencies. Distances to the F l-F2-F3 centre are also investigated. All these variations, throughout the two different situations, show the direct link between some new vocal parameters and stress appearances. The results confirm the validity of laboratory experiments on stress, but emphazise quantitative as well as qualitative differences between the situations and the speakers involved.

The importance of voice in daily verbal communication often goes unnoticed until the day one loses his own voice.  It is easy to miss the high incidence of vocal abuse and misuse even in the local scenario since most of us are not aware of the perceptual characteristics of the disordered voice.  Making auditory-perceptual judgments about a client's voice requires matching it to stored mental representations of various voice disorders.  This talk aims to present different voice samples for the audience to make auditory-perceptual descriptions of, descriptions that may be supported, confirmed, or improved on by the results of each sample's instrumental analysis.  By training the ear to listen, one can identify disordered voices that may require individualized voice intervention by a speech-language pathologist.
