Social and Political Philosophy

­Philosophy today is no longer satisfied with the critique of the state, nor with developing an apology for the state: rather its contemporary task is to invent a new concept of the state.
This paper consists of three parts: in the first I focus on Badiou's apparently teleological definition of the state so as to extract its parameters of action. The second part recounts an episode of state-­‐building on the part of provincial Jacobins during the French revolution. In the third part of the paper I construct a theatrical concept of the state on the basis of my theory of politics as an action-­‐zone.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was established on August 8, 1967, when foreign ministers of five countries, consisting of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, met in Bangkok and signed the ASEAN Declaration. The regional grouping has made the most progress in economic integration, aiming to create an ASEAN Community by 2015. Recently, the Member Countries of the ASEAN have accepted the concept of ASEAN Connectivity, which emphasized on the three pillars regional cooperation of security, socio-cultural, and economic integration. In particular, ASEAN Connectivity is expected: (1) to enhance trade, investment, tourism, and development, (2) to narrow development gaps, and to facilitate people-to-people contacts. As a preparation to adapt with a new system, Indonesia is geared to improve its domestic connectivity as a prerequisite of regional connectivity. In Indonesia's view, regional connectivity should help empower and develop the local economies, as an effort to narrow the development gaps within ASEAN. To fulfill these goals, Indonesia needs to strengthen its physical connectivity through better transportation infrastructure. However, to support trade facilitation, good transportation infrastructure alone is not sufficient. It needs to be enhanced with ICT infrastructure, which is crucial in supporting trade facilitation through its ability to facilitate information exchange and to reduce the cost of doing business. This paper aims to explore how Indonesia's domestic connectivity coops with the concept of ASEAN connectivity. Some data and various existing policies in their effort to accomplish ASEAN connectivity will be explored. With the new legal framework in ICT and transportation, the performance of the ICT and transportation system in Indonesia is expected to ameliorate, hence supporting the development of other sectors, and this will ultimately lead to the realization of ASEAN Connectivity.

Seit den Erfahrungen der Gewaltexplosionen im 20. Jahrhundert erleben wir insbesondere nach den Anschlägen vom 11. September 2001 weltweit eine neue Dimension von Gewalt und Terror, wie sie Hannah Arendt in ihrer eindrücklichen und nachhaltigen Analyse der totalen Herrschaft bereits vor einem halben Jahrhundert antizipiert. Die globalisierte Zivilisation, so Arendts These, berge eine Destruktivität, die alle Zivilisation zu vernichten drohe, wenn nicht die zentralen Fragen der politischen Verantwortung ebenso wie die Folgen ihres Scheitern in die öffentliche Reflexion gerückt werden.
Einige der vielfältigen Aspekte des komplexen Zusammenhangs von Politik und Verantwortung, vor allem mit Bezug auf das Werk von Hannah Arendt, werden im vorliegenden Band behandelt.

This paper is unpublished. It deals with Pavel Florensky’s socio-philosophical views that shaped during the first Russian revolution years and were elaborated in his later works. The principal theoretical divergence of Florensky’s attitude and the position of Christian socialists, as well as specific character of Florensky’s monarchism, are discussed here. Religious and philosophical grounds of his socio-political position are brought to light.

There are more types of borders today than ever before in history. Borders of all kinds define every aspect of social life in the twenty-first century. From the biometric data that divides the smallest aspects of our bodies to the aerial drones that patrol the immense expanse of our domestic and international airspace, we are defined by borders. They can no longer simply be understood as the geographical divisions between nation-states. Today, their form and function has become too complex, too hybrid. What we need now is a theory of the border that can make sense of this hybridity across multiple domains of social life.

Rather than viewing borders as the result or outcome of pre-established social entities like states, Thomas Nail reinterprets social history from the perspective of the continual and constitutive movement of the borders that organize and divide society in the first place. Societies and states are the products of bordering, Nail argues, not the other way around. Applying his original movement-oriented theoretical framework "kinopolitics" to several major historical border regimes (fences, walls, cells, and checkpoints), Theory of the Border pioneers a new methodology of "critical limology," that provides fresh tools for the analysis of contemporary border politics.

“Power is war, the continuation of war by other means”: Foucault’s reversal of Clausewitz’s formula has become a staple of critical theory — but it remains highly problematic on a conceptual level. Elaborated during Foucault’s 1976 lectures (“Society Must Be Defended”), this work-hypothesis theorises “basic warfare” [la guerre fondamentale] as the teleological horizon of socio-political relations. Following Boulainvilliers, Foucault champions this polemological approach, conceived as a purely descriptive discourse on “real” politics and war, against the philosophico-juridical conceptuality attached to liberal society (Hobbes’s Leviathan being here the prime example).
However, in doing so, Foucault did not interrogate the conceptual validity of notions such as power and war, therefore interlinking them without questioning their ontological status. This problematic conflation was partly rectified in 1982, as Foucault proposed a more dynamic definition of power relations: “actions over potential actions”.
I argue, somewhat polemically, that Foucault’s hermeneutics of power still involves a teleological violence, dependent on a polemological representation of human relations as essentially instrumental: this resembles what Derrida names, in “Heidegger’s Ear”, an “anthropolemology”. However, I show that all conceptualisation of power implies its self-deconstruction. This self-deconstructive (or autoimmune) structure supposes an archi-originary unpower prior to power: power presupposes an excess within power, an excessive force, another violence making it both possible and impossible. There is something within power located “beyond the power principle” (Derrida). This (self-)excess signifies a limitless resistantiality co-extensive with power-relationality. It also allows the reversal of pólemos into its opposite, as unpower opens politics and warfare to the messianic call of a pre-political, pre-ontological disruption: the archi-originary force of différance. This force, unconditional, challenges Foucault’s conceptualisations of power, suggesting an originary performativity located before or beyond hermeneutics of power-knowledge, disrupting theoreticity as well as empiricity by pointing to their ontological complicity.
The bulk of this essay is dedicated to sketching the theoretical implications of this deconstructive reading of Foucault with respect to the methodology and conceptuality of political science and social theory.

ABSTRACT
This research, situated at the junction of feminist, trans and disability studies, examines the limits of intersectional feminist analyses and the difficulties faced in their consideration of gender identity and ability through an analysis of two types of body modification: transsexuality and transability (voluntary disability acquisition). In response to the question “what are the limits of intersectional analyses and how can they be addressed?”, three objectives are proposed: 1) participate in the critical examination of specific limits of intersectional feminist analyses in order to diversify their axes through the consideration of gender identity and ability; 2) question the conceptual assumptions and cisgenderist and (cis)ableist privileges informing negative discourses around these body modifications and highlight points of convergence among feminist, transactivist and anti-ableist movements in order to encourage dialogue and solidarities among them; 3) provide feminist, trans and disability studies with an enriched model of intersectionality capable of addressing new claims for justice from oppressed groups, such as those of transsexual and transabled individuals. The negative discourses of certain feminists and other scientists regarding these body modifications are mapped and critiqued through a methodology combining archeological, genealogical and critical discourse analysis. The reflections presented here, inspired by poststructuralist and queer approaches, explore neither the “origins” of transsexuality and transability nor their motivations; this is a study of the negative discourses about these phenomena and the normative systems from which they originate. The result is an important contribution to theoretical, normative and political fields of knowledge: the examination of two “extreme” cases of body modification reveals the bodily normativities of dominant regimes, specifically cisgenderism and (cis)ableism, that remain as unrecognized in our societies as in our social movements.

RÉSUMÉ
Cette recherche se situe à la jonction des études féministes, trans et sur la production du handicap. Elle s’intéresse aux limites des analyses féministes intersectionnelles et leurs difficultés à considérer certains axes identitaires, telles l’identité de genre et les capacités, à travers l’analyse de deux cas de figure de modifications corporelles, soit la transsexualité et la transcapacité (transformation visant à acquérir un handicap). Cette thèse s’articule autour de la question suivante : quels sont les angles morts des analyses intersectionnelles et comment pouvons-nous y remédier? Pour répondre à cette question, cette thèse propose trois objectifs : 1) Participer aux questionnements critiques entourant certaines limites des analyses féministes intersectionnelles pour en diversifier les axes à partir de l’identité de genre et des capacités; 2) Remettre en question les présupposés conceptuels et les privilèges cisgenristes et (cis)capacitistes qui sous-tendent les discours négatifs entourant ces modifications corporelles et mettre en valeur les points de convergence entre les mouvements féministes, transactivistes et anticapacitistes pour instaurer des dialogues et des solidarités entre eux; 3) Fournir un modèle enrichi de l’intersectionnalité pouvant être déployé en études féministes, trans et sur la production du (trans)handicap, apte à répondre aux nouvelles revendications de justice de groupes opprimés, comme celles des personnes transsexuelles et transcapacitaires. À l’aide d’une méthodologie alliant l’analyse critique de discours, l’analyse archéologique et généalogique, les discours négatifs de certaines féministes et d’autres scientifiques sur ces transformations corporelles sont cartographiés et critiqués. Les réflexions présentées ici, s’inscrivant dans une approche poststructuraliste et queer, ne proposent pas une recherche des « origines » et des motivations de la transsexualité et de la transcapacité, mais plutôt une étude des discours négatifs vis-à-vis ces phénomènes et des systèmes normatifs qui sous-tendent ces discours. C’est sous cet angle que cette recherche constitue un apport important aux champs des savoirs, tant sur le plan théorique, normatif que politique : en se penchant sur deux cas de figure « extrêmes », elle met en lumière les normativités corporelles des régimes dominants, notamment cisgenriste et (cis)capacitiste, occultées tant dans nos sociétés que dans nos mouvements sociaux.

Les pages les plus connues de Hegel selon Jean-Louis Vieillard-Baron sont celles que l’on nomme ordinairement comme « Dialectique du maître et de l’esclave » dans la Phénoménologie de l’Esprit de 1807. Traditionnellement, on comprend la dialectique du maître et de l’esclave comme le combat des deux consciences pour se faire reconnaître par l’autre, afin de parvenir à la conscience de soi-même. La scène commence par le fait du dédoublement. La conscience de soi s’est perdue dans son autre qui n’est en fait que son extériorité,  son double, mais qui,  dans un deuxième temps, supprime cet autre car c’est elle-même qu’elle voit dans l’autre. Il s’agit donc pour la conscience de soi de se reconnaître elle-même comme conscience de soi. Ceci passe par le dédoublement en deux consciences individuelles et l’utilisation de l’autre comme intermédiaire entre soi et soi. Et ce, afin de passer à la conscience universelle, sujet éthique et gnoséologique qui reste posé, mais non argumenté, dans le criticisme kantien et que l’ouvrage de Hegel vise à justifier en raison. Ainsi le mouvement de la reconnaissance implique à la fois le dédoublement de la conscience de soi et l’unité spirituelle des deux consciences de soi divisées. On voit bien ici la portée politique implicite dans la dialectique du maître et de l’esclave.
Or du point de vue de la pensée d’Emmanuel Levinas, Hegel n’affirme pas l’identité de la conscience de façon simple qu’en excluant l’autre. La conscience de soi est nécessairement orientée vers la suppression de cet autre. Elle s’affirme, selon Levinas, dans un narcissisme absolu. Tout ce qui est autre qu’elle-même est négatif.  La phénoménologie de l’esprit décrit et analyse l’expérience de domination et de perte d’autonomie pour celui qui est dominé. Dans le sixième paragraphe du texte « La trace de l’autre » paru dans la revue Tijdschrift voor Filosofie, de 1963, Emmanuel Levinas étend cette thématique à la totalité de l’histoire de la pensée occidentale en signalant : «La philosophie est atteinte, depuis son enfance, d’une horreur de l’Autre qui demeure Autre, d’une insurmontable allergie. C’est pour cela qu’elle est essentiellement une philosophie de l’être, que la compréhension de l’être est son dernier mot et la structure fondamentale de l’homme. C’est pour cela aussi qu’elle dévie la philosophie de l’immanence et de l’autonomie ou de l’athéisme. Le Dieu des philosophes, d’Aristote à Leibniz, à travers le Dieu des scolastiques- est un dieu adéquat à la raison, un dieu compris qui ne saurait troubler l’autonomie de la conscience, se retrouvant  elle-même à travers toutes ses aventures, retournant chez soi comme Ulysse qui, à travers toutes ses pérégrinations, ne va que vers son île natale. La philosophie qui nous est transmise attribue à ce retour non seulement la pensée théorétique, mais tout mouvement spontané de la conscience. Non seulement le monde compris par la raison cesse d’Être autre car la conscience s’y retrouve, mais tout ce qui est attitude de la conscience, c’est-à-dire valorisation, sentiment, action, travail et, d’une façon plus générale engagement, est en derrière analyse conscience de soi, c’est-à-dire identité et autonomie. La philosophie de Hegel représente l’aboutissement logique de cette allergie foncière de la philosophie. » 

Toutefois, cette opposition de Levinas à Hegel est solidaire d’une certaine interprétation métaphysique de Hegel qui soulignait le rôle de l’esprit absolu dans une spéculation philosophique subordonnée à une certaine exigence de cohérence rationnelle  totale. Or, on sait  que Hegel est, avec Platon, le plus « contrefait » des philosophes. Il est donc possible de trouver une interprétation de Hegel qui plutôt que de les opposer rapproche Hegel et Levinas de façon assez inattendue. Cela s’avère possible si on prend en considération l’importante influence qu’a exercé le commentaire de la Phénoménologie de l’Esprit livré par Alexandre Kojève sur la pensée de Merleau- Ponty, Jean-Paul Sartre et Eric Weil qui ont influencé à leur tour la pensée de Levinas. De plus, le problème du désir, qui occupe une place centrale dans la pensée de Levinas, occupe une place tout aussi importante pour la démarche de la conscience dans la lecture de Hegel par Kojève. En effet, la conscience, comme point d’aboutissement de tout phénomène, est elle-même une force qui n’est pas seulement attirée par son autre, à savoir l’objet, mais qui tend aussi à repousser ce qui est identique. Autrement dit, la conscience saisit désormais l’importance de son propre rôle dans la concurrence des désirs, des attractions et des répulsions de forces. Ainsi, la vérité de tout phénomène n’apparaît que si l’on tient compte du jeu de toutes les forces qui interviennent, qu’elles soient directes ou indirectes. En ce sens, les phénomènes ne se réduisent pas si facilement à une loi, mais l’entendement se trouvera donc ouvert à une infinité de relations fluides, mouvantes, vivantes  dans une quête sans fin. La philosophie de Hegel s’ouvre à un monde contingent, imprévisible où chaque partie réfracte la totalité des relations auxquelles elle participe  et qui changent constamment. On sait bien que pour Kant comme pour Leibniz la conscience de lui-même ne pouvait pas déroger aux lois qui gouvernent son émergence. Hegel bouleverse ce préjugé : cette conscience de  soi dont tout le travail consiste précisément à s’extraire de ce monde, à entrer en lutte avec les autres. Pour cet homme la vérité est la tension entre l’infini de l’autre et l’infini de son propre pouvoir de négation. La dialectique est devenue alternance d’angoisse et de révolte, puissance érotique de dépense et d’ouverture à l’autre.  En faisant cela, Kojève ajoute une nouvelle oscillation entre esprit subjectif et esprit objectif. Quant à l’esprit subjectif, l’accent est mis sur la dialectique du désir et du manque, tandis que l’esprit objectif met en avant les besoins immédiats. Besoin de saisir, de maîtriser la réalité et désir d’assumer, de revendiquer l’échec de cette entreprise. Chacun d’entre nous, comme le dirait Jaques Lacan, se balance entre l’imaginaire et le réel, entre l’existence rêvée de l’enfant et le désir impossible pour la mère, entre le fantasme de maîtrise et la douleur du manque. Lacan dirait que cela correspond précisément à la prééminence de l’autre chez Hegel. Pensée de Jaques Lacan qui est, selon  Slavoj Žižek,  « L’une des plus authentiquement hégéliennes ». Donc, il ne s’agit pas pour Hegel de supprimer la différence, mais de donner un champ plus vaste au régime de la négativité propre à cette différence. Tout cela implique donc une possible interprétation post-métaphysique de Hegel qui donne un lieu prioritaire à l’autre.

Notre thèse vise donc à confronter la pensée de Levinas à celle d’Hegel autour du problème de la reconnaissance. Elle a pour but non seulement de faire une lecture critique de la pensée de Levinas à la lumière de la pensée de Hegel, mais de mener également une lecture critique du problème de la reconnaissance chez Hegel à la lumière des exigences de Levinas. Le propos est d’envisager une relecture du problème de la reconnaissance qui permette de surmonter l’ensemble des critiques. Ainsi, nous projetons de faire une relecture de l’ensemble de la philosophie hégélienne en donnant une portée post-métaphysique à son œuvre.

The state can not prevent the existence of universal ethical claims that are included in  its regime but not represented in it. Alain Badiou's philosophy is devoted to these claims and defends them as forms of political truth striving for validity and representation.

Abstract. This paper proposes an ordering of ideas to create politics that distinguishes itself from conventional politics. It is called extrapolitics. To define extrapolitics, the concept of politics, transhumanism and dialectic - dialogism have been briefly included. The  Politics Path has been schematized as a process of evolution that politics experiments and goes hand in hand with human evolution. A post-politicist proposal was suggested for the proper proliferation of transhumanist objectives, as well as an extension of the conventional political spectrum, one that includes the extra-political spectrum and arguments against human enhancement. It finalizes with the inclusion of two potential phenomena, one harmful and the other one ideal, that define the processes of application of extrapolitical policies, the bio-socio-political singularity and the bio-socio-political inflection, respectively.

Some members of the disability studies community were likely puzzled when the call for submissions to this special issue of Disability Studies Quarterly began to circulate on various list-servs, facebook, and other social media last year. For although the tone of the call for papers seemed to indicate that the theme of the issue-Improving Feminist Philosophy and Theory by Taking Account of Disability-was somehow pathbreaking, risk-taking, contentious, and transgressive, the integration of disability within feminist theory and practice has been discussed and written about quite a bit since at least 1988, the year in which Michelle Fine and Adrienne Asch published their landmark edited collection Women with Disabilities: Essays in Psychology, Culture, and Politics. In fact, , and I are only some of the many disabled feminists who have written about the relationship between feminism and disabled women; how feminist theory must expand in order to incorporate the claims of disability theory; the potential that feminist disability studies has to transform feminism, and so on. Thus, some (or, perhaps many) members of the disability studies community may well have doubted that a forthcoming publication about feminism/feminist theory and disability would be theoretically innovative (not to mention, inspiring and subversive) at all. I want to point out, therefore, that this feminist issue of DSQ is unique, ground-breaking, and can be distinguished from other edited collections and special journal issues devoted to feminist disability studies and theory insofar as it focuses primarily on disability and feminist philosophy, inaugurating the emergence of feminist philosophy of disability, which is the term that I have coined to refer to the field of inquiry that simultaneously contributes to and widens the scope of feminist philosophy, philosophy of disability (as I have called it), and feminist disability studies, with all three of which feminist philosophy of disability shares many theoretical assumptions, social values, and political aims, but from all three of which it is distinct.

Functionalist theories of political authority are commonly challenged on the grounds that such theories cannot explain the boundaries of state of authority. If all that matters for political authority is whether a state is sufficiently just, then one will have some difficulty explaining why persons have political obligations to the particular state they reside in, why unilateral annexation by reasonably just states does not create political obligations on the part of the annexed, and why a reasonably just state may lack political authority because of past wrongdoing. In this paper, I develop a hybrid theory of political authority which combines fair play and functionalist criteria. I go on to show that fair play functionalism can resolve all three of the particularity problem, the problem of unilateral annexation, and the problem of historical injustice while maintaining a commitment to basic functionalist intuitions.

The emergence of cross-border communities and transnational associations requires new ways of thinking about the norms involved in democracy in a globalized world. Given the significance of human rights fulfillment, including social and economic rights, I argue here for giving weight to the claims of political communities while also recognizing the need for input by distant others into the decisions of global governance institutions that affect them. I develop two criteria for addressing the scope of democratization in transnational contextsFcommon activities and impact on basic human rightsFand argue for their compatibility. I then consider some practical implications for institutional transformation and design, including new forms of transnational representation.

This chapter is a contribution to the philosophy of human rights and in particular to the vital issue of how to justify them. In the first and second part, I give a brief depiction of the nature of human rights and examine four different approaches to justifying human rights: the natural rights approach, the divine rights approach, the fundamental interests approach, and the personal autonomy approach. The third part broadly outlines and examines a novel approach, which can be called the rational rights approach to human rights, and is based on a modified version of Kant’s notion of rationality and Rawls’ idea of the veil of ignorance. The final part defends the rational rights approach against some main objections.

Pourquoi l'illusion qu'on peut séparer le marxisme de l'athéisme se maintient-elle? Comme l‘a remarqué G.M.-M.Cottier O.P., c'est au moment où le mouvement marxiste donne des signes de crise qu'un nombre croissant de chrétiens semblent attirés par lui. L'effondrement du monolithisme doctrinal est sans doute à l'origine de cette idée qu'il est possible d'opérer un tri entre divers aspects du marxisme isolables les uns des autres, comme l’a essayé notamment G.A.Wetter S.J. L’auteur montre que l'athéisme est une part intégrale de la conception de Marx. C’est valable également pour sa „conception matérialiste de l’histoire“, appelée plus tard „le matérialisme historique“. De plus, comme l’ont formulé les évêques français, le problème n'est pas seulement celui qui oppose l'athéisme et la foi, c'est la divergence entre deux conceptions de la nature, de l'homme, de la société et de l'histoire".

This paper reflects on the violent conflicts in the Niger-Delta region of Nigeria that threaten
the nation's oil-dependent mono-economy and corporate existence. The Delta region's crises
caused loss of lives and properties until government granted amnesty to her militants and
created the Niger Delta Ministry to take care of the peoples' agitations. While these measures
have yielded some positive results, the peace in the region is marred by a resurgence of
violence through activities of aggrieved militant groups that unleashed terror on the Delta
communities and vandalised pipelines as they expressed dissatisfaction with the Nigerian
state and the Multinational Oil Corporations. As it re-examines the immediate and remote
causes of the crises, the paper adopts the methods of historical and conceptual analyses to
argue for stakeholder's commitment to ethics of civility as the lasting solution. Thus,
identifying social egoism as the basis of the Niger Delta crises, it argues that ethics of civility,
which it perceives as the commitment to the well-being of the self, others and the environment
without neglecting future generations, is a way of addressing the Niger Delta crises. By
construing social egoism as the tendency of a group to act to protect its interests, it debates
that the pursuit of group-interest devoid of concomitant consideration for existing and
potential (future) generations, and the environment, would continue to impact negatively on
crises resolution efforts and impede national peaceful co-existence if not properly addressed.

Cet article étudie un aspect de l'influence scientifique, sociale et financière de l'industrie pharmaceutique dans le champ de la sexualité depuis la mise sur le marché des premiers médicaments de traitement des troubles érectiles par voie orale au milieu des années 90. Il développe l'ethnographie d'une conférence scientifique internationale dans ce domaine et privilégie l'analyse des propos tenus lors des sessions d'ouverture et de clôture d'une conférence internationale, associée à une enquête de terrain sur place et des entretiens formels et informels avec les principaux acteurs de cette conférence. Cette approche permet ainsi de décrire, sinon de mieux comprendre les influences sociales, politiques et économiques qui pèsent sur l'organisation et la tenue des conférences scientifiques dans le domaine de la santé.

This period could be described as a period of crisis, or rather, of crises: political, social, economic, philosophical, and even existential. In Germany, the end of the First World War is met with the resentment of the defeat. But it is also a moment of great change: the beginning of the Weimar Republic, the attempt to create a new liberal regime in rupture with the old world, unprecedented innovation and creation in philosophy, literature, cinema, architecture, music and so on. In politics, the Weimar period represents a "laboratory of modernity", where all alternatives from far-left to radical far-right politics are represented as potentialities to be realized. Our task in this course is to understand the diagnoses that various political thinkers pose with regard to the political and social situation in Europe in the interwar and postwar period. How to make sense of this new social and political world that offers no markers of certainty? How can we understand, in this context, the rise of Nazism and the growth of Anti-Semitism? Is there any meaning to the human tragedy that was the Second World War and the Holocaust? How is a belief in the solidity or legitimacy of democracy as a regime possible after the experience of total domination of totalitarianism? This course is designed to provide a substantive overview of the major themes in continental thought in the first half of the twentieth century and an introduction to the works of the most important thinkers of that period, including

La modernité philosophique consiste principalement en le postulat de la Raison comme moyen d'émancipation de l'homme? Quel est dès lors le processus rationnel d’émancipation de l’homme ? Et quelle peut être sa transcription collective ? Nous nous attarderons dans cette contribution sur la question de l’autonomie telle qu’elle est articulée à la politique (en tant que gestion collective de l’utopie sociale) particulièrement dans les pensées pré-libérales de T. Hobbes et de J. Locke que nous contrasterons par leurs critiques dans la pensée marxiste et postmarxiste.

Collective Identities at Work. The recovered companies by workers: a case study for new forms of collective and supportive actions

The article aims at shedding light on the main expiring tendencies of the so called "projective city" promoted by the new spirit of capitalism which are at the root of the overproduction of (either human and non-human) wastes; at the same time, the article will focus on some collective, recovering strategies able to reconvert, regenerate and share human and non-human resources which would otherwise be condemned to remain mere wastes by the imbalances due to the market's global competition. The core assumption of the article is that social phenomena like the recovered companies of workers would not be possible without some kind of collective identity able to breathe the sense of belonging to a shared community.

Political philosophy has long treated the nation-state as the starting point for normative inquiry, while paying little attention to the ongoing legacies of
colonialism and imperialism. But given how most modern states emerged,
normative discussions about migration, for example, need to engage with the colonial and imperial history of state immigration controls, citizenship practices, and the nation-state more generally. This article critically reviews three historical studies by Adom Getachew, Radhika Mongia, and Nandita Sharma that engage in depth with this history. The studies historicize concepts that are central to discussions in political philosophy: the categories of citizen and migrant, the concept of ‘nationality,’ and the principle of self-determination. I argue that this historicized form of conceptual analysis helps us challenge the default authority of concepts that are deeply embedded in the political structures that we inhabit.

Cette étude tâche de dégager la double signification de la philosophie socratique comprise comme philosophie politique à l’aide d’une interprétation des Amoureux rivaux. Le refus d’accorder à ce court dialogue socratique une affiliation au corpus platonicien a jeté injustement de l’ombre sur la pertinence de son contenu : le discrédit des Amoureux rivaux a quelques limites qu’il est bon de montrer. La structure soignée du dialogue, qu’il est possible de mettre en lumière au moyen du Phèdre, invite à une interprétation attentive de cette architecture. Une telle lecture permet d’expliciter la parenté entre la philosophie et la politique dans la philosophie socratique. Les Amoureux rivaux présente deux dimensions politiques de la philosophie : une philosophie qui s’oppose à la philosophie physiologique en constituant plutôt un questionnement sur l’homme qui s’exprime dans un mode de vie réflexif, de même qu’une politique du dialogue, c’est-à-dire une bonne gouverne de la communauté dialectique.
