Se presenta la situación actual de la industria de la pornografía a partir del análisis y la reflexión de información recogida de los estudios e investigaciones de los últimos años: los impactos en diferentes ámbitos, su vinculación con el sistema prostitucional y con conductas adictivas, la colonización de la industria en internet a través de las redes sociales o los videojuegos, su capacidad de adaptación a los avances económicos y a las nuevas formas de consumo, y las crisis económicas para continuar su evolución. Explica y expone los desafíos a nivel mundial a los que se enfrentan las administraciones y la sociedad civil, sin herramientas para poder actuar, reaccionar y comprender con claridad que está ocurriendo. Solo a partir de la evidencia científica y la reflexión crítica se puede generar un debate que permita pensar e implementar las políticas más adecuadas.
Una de las aportaciones más relevantes de esta obra es su carácter colectivo, incluyendo autoras y autores especialistas en las diversas áreas de estudio.

Written in the style of an opinion editorial, this short article serves as a critical examination of Bill S-210, which proposes to restrict minors' online access to sexually explicit material in Canada through age verification technologies. Framed within the historical context of obscenity law and the feminist sex wars, the article underscores the impact of censorship and anti-pornography feminism on queer businesses and sexual expressions. Emphasizing the need for comprehensive sexual education rather than increased censorship, it critiques the impracticality of age-verification technologies as well as contemporary cultural anxiety around youth sexuality and the perceived need to 'protect' women and minors from pornography. Urging a re-evaluation of the Bill in light of its broader sociopolitical implications, the article cautions against rash policy decisions that may further stigmatize alternative forms of sexual expression, specifically queer, feminist, and fetish pornographies.

This research sheds light on a different driver of innovation � namely, through the perspective of "meaning". An innovation, driven by the search for a new meaning of a product, is connected to the purpose of "why" a product is used. It is not about "how" it is used. Anal sex has been the object of unprecedented recent media visibility; however, media discourses of anal sex are still largely unstudied. This study explores the representations of anal sex in Cosmopolitan, available online on the magazine's website. Anal sex, mostly equated with heterosexual anal intercourse, is presented as trendy and popular, as well as potentially pleasurable and intimate. The articles pervasively characterise anal sex as a sexual activity that demands preparation, providing women with tips and techniques allegedly indispensable for a safe and pleasurable (or at least painless) practice of anal sex. The discourses offered are deeply gendered, however, picturing anal sex as a male obsession, and sometimes an expression of power and male conquest. Women's own experiences are portrayed in a more nuanced and heterogeneous way, combining narratives of pleasure and pain, personal initiative and coercion. Although women's individual right to refuse anal sex is often stressed, male pressure is naturalised, and certain dimensions of constraint in heterosexual interaction are normalised.

Despite the magnitude of its consumption by the general public, online pornography has to date received comparatively very little attention within linguistics. The paper explores the language in video titles on the pornographic site Pornhub using a corpus-driven approach. A corpus of 17,000 titles compiled specifically for the purposes of the study yielded a word list, which, together with an interdisciplinary literature review, was used to formulate two research questions. With gender as a key variable, the first research question focuses on the linguistic representation of agency by looking at verb objects, while the second examines expressions (nouns and adjectives) used to ascribe roles to the participants. A quantitative evaluation of the data indicates an interplay between gender and the observed features in both questions. The lexicalisation of agency was found to be more complex than previously thought; nine categories were found, and the role of passive voice differed depending on gender. As for gender characterisation, descriptions of women's roles are not only more frequent but also more heterogenous and evaluative compared to those of men.

One of the major narratives of women's history, and the history of female sexuality, is that the sexual love of one woman for another is something which has been 'hidden from history'. To date, the lesbian in early modern history has been recovered, and reconstructed, through medical and legal discourses that give prominence to physical abnormality (the use of an enlarged clitoris for penetration) or male impersonation (with or without the use of a prosthetic device to imitate the penis), or through homoerotic interpretations of the poetry and prose of female writers. 2 Valerie Traub in particular has placed emphasis on the importance of clitoral hypertrophy to early modern representations of sexual contact between women. However, knowledge and circulation of ideas about women who might engage in sexual acts with other women was not limited to élite medical and legal discourses that dissected the physical and sexual abnormalities or transgressions of extraordinary women. Although we do not have the evidence of 'ordinary' women recording how they felt and acted, pornography and the popular literature of ballads and pamphlets provide alternative sources of representation from which we can unpick different interpretations of early modern knowledge and understanding of female sexuality. The pornographic literature of the seventeenth century is a particularly rich source for uncovering how women who engaged in sexual acts with other women were imagined. This is not to suggest that this pornographic literature reveals just what early modern women did in bed with each other, but rather what some early modern authors thought it was likely that they did,

The rapid rise of online pornography has become a real challenge for educators dealing with the daily use of online pornography amongst schoolboys. Many researchers stress that online pornography has become a significant factor in gender socialization, reinforcing traditional constructions of men’s power over women in terms of hierarchy, objectification, submission and violence. There is a lack of educational discourse on how schools react or otherwise respond to the use of online pornography. In this paper, the case of participatory action research, implemented in one Lithuanian school, is presented as an educational approach for critical consciousness education of schoolboys with regards to online pornography. The outset of critical consciousness education is the students’ own experiences and lifeworlds wherein students and educators can jointly recognize and challenge the oppressed subjectivities and oppressive circumstances.

Exotic locations are used in pornography to generate distance between the audience and the explicit content. The 'pornoexotic' maintains white heteronormativity through presenting the exotic as a zone of anomie, where taboo desires can be satisfied. This article examines Australia as a unique pornoexotic location through four pornographic feature films. The Australian pornoexotic functions to geographically and symbolically distance the viewer while simultaneously presenting bodies and desires that do not deviate from white, heteroporn standards. It achieves this through a focus on the landscape, through the character arc of a coerced outsider and through the symbolic investment in but absence of Aboriginal people. The invisibility of Aboriginal people in porn can be contextualized through the ongoing neocolonial measures restricting Aboriginal people's access to pornography. This article examines one of the most recent neocolonial measures regulating Aboriginal sexualitythe Northern Territory Emergency Response, which banned pornography in a number of Aboriginal communities.

This article examines the prominent role of Patreon in the rapidly growing sector of crowdfunded pornographic games. Recent research has indicated that, on average, more people (patrons) are funding pornographic digital games on Patreon than other (non-adult) digital games (Lankoski & Dymek, 2020). Graphtreon's 'Top Patreon Creators' list from 9 June 2021 includes six NSFW game projects among the top 50 projects (ranked by number of Patrons). 1 For example, Summertime Saga (Dark Cookie), the highest-ranked pornographic game, is third in terms of the number of funders, with 27,791 patrons funding $74,657 per month. Recently, Nigeria has been enmeshed in the throes and quakes of insecurity. The media as the fourth estate of the realm is in the centre of the problem. Through its news reporting and editorials, the media mediate in events between the government and the masses. The media regulate the thought direction of the readers; hence, helping them to formulate ideologies on national issues through language. The study aims to examine two editorials on the Federal government-Boko Haram face-off to reveal the media’s roles in the event. Through Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), the paper evaluates how the editorials represent the ideology of insecurity and how they contribute to or solve the problem. Mass media consumption has increased markedly in recent years. One unintended consequence of this increase is the proliferation of risky consumption, including online and offline pornography. Although the literature has noted a series of predictive variables (age, gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and family structure), recent studies have suggested including values and lifestyles as relevant factors in consumption decisions. The objective of the present study was to examine whether adolescents’ lifestyles were relevant predictors of the consumption of pornography both on the Internet and in magazines or videos. In this article we investigated the level of consumption of Internet pornography among children and teenagers of primary and secondary school age in Southwestern Nigeria. Two research instruments titled “Children/Teenagers Internet Pornography Profile in Southwestern Nigeria and an adapted Pornography Addiction Test questionnaire were employed to solicit responses from children and teens. Findings from the analysis of collected data using chi square analysis, regression and other descriptive measures showed that teenagers are more exposed to Internet pornography than children. A positive relationship exists between age, parental income and level of exposure to Internet pornography, which implies that as children advance in age, the level of exposure will definitely increase. Children of medium and high-income earners also exhibit above average level of addiction to Internet pornography. Recommendations were made based on our findings.

Online pornography represents a complex experience. The identification of determinant characteristics of this experience may allow to reduce its negative effects and improve the preventive interventions in young people. This study aimed to identify, among expert opinions, the main pornography features, the type of effects related to its consumption, and the most appropriate interventions to face the negative consequences of this consumption in adolescents and young people. We invited an international multidisciplinary group of experts in pornography and sex education to be part of this study. A two-round electronic Delphi panel was undertaken with 30 experts. The used questionnaire asked about pornography definition, features, and effects, as well as interventions against the negative consequences of its consumption in adolescents. The main pornography features identified were: easy access, violent content, and changes in perception and attitudes regarding gender equality and sexuality. Some of the interventions against the negative consequences of pornography consumption were: social support in the maturation process, education of emotions, affections, and sexuality, as well as regulations in the access system to online pornography. On the one hand, the main pornography characteristics identified in this study might be one of the first steps to understand and analyze the actual state and impact of this huge phenomenon. On the other hand, the expert’s opinion regarding interventions might contribute to the development or improvement of strategies to prevent or minimize the negative effects of pornography consumption/exposition in adolescents and young people.

El presente artículo se plantea la constitucionalidad de una hipotética regulación que aspirase a restringir de forma severa la pornografía en Internet. En primer lugar, se ofrece una definición de pornografía y se expone cómo su consumo ha experimentado un cambio cualitativo y cuantitativo en los últimos lustros. Tras esta aproximación, se presentan los derechos constitucionales que ejercitan quienes producen, difunden y consumen de pornografía; así como los derechos e intereses de rango constitucional que dichas actividades pueden vulnerar. El artículo concluye presentando tres posibles modelos de regulación de la pornografía onlineabolicionista, restrictivo y permisivo-, subrayando que el restrictivo es que mejor se cohonesta con las exigencias de nuestro texto constitucional. De este modo, se concluye que una restricción severa de la pornografía en Internet resulta plenamente constitucional.

Female-oriented male-male erotica is a genre of popular culture often know as Boys’ Love (BL), yaoi, and danmei. It is one of the largest by-and-for women sexual subcultures and a global phenomenon. With the largest data sets in the field, we ask: Which risqué sexual content do Sinophone (Chinese-speaking) and Anglophone (English-speaking) participants particularly enjoy in BL and does this differ between cultures?; and, Are there sub-demographics in Sinophone and in Anglophone culture who enjoy particular forms of risqué sexual content in BL and do these forms relate also to enjoyment of particular storylines and concern with legal issues? The material studied meets the DSM-5 definition of the paraphilic and little is known about paraphilias in women or in the general population. We analyze using Categorical Principal Component Analysis one 15-response question from our Sinophone (N = 1922) and Anglophone (N = 1715) BL fandom surveys: Which risqué sexual content do you particular enjoy in BL?, and test for associations with seven demographic and other BL content-related questions. Notably, the component structure is nearly replicated between the two independent samples, in order of strength: BDSM Specialist, Mechanoid/Animal Sex Specialist, Underage Sex Specialist, and Minority Paraphilia Specialist. In both samples, it is the avid BL fans and/or those who like explicitly sexual stories, a largely overlapping demographic, who most engage the risqué content while, for the Sinophone, this includes also more nonhetersexual and/or other-gendered people. We conclude that women’s paraphilias have been largely overlooked because they might be expressed more commonly through fantasy than action, that their mass expression has awaited both the means and the market force, and that current conceptualization of, and assumptions about, paraphilias are overly modelled on that of men.

As pornography studios deal with declining profits and performers work to survive on decreasing scene rates, direct-to-consumer platforms such as OnlyFans are being hailed by some as saviours of the industry. Exemplifying the promises of the current gig economy, these platforms claim to offer supplemental income and autonomy and have been praised by journalists as addressing market demand for intimacy in a mainstream pornographic landscape largely devoid of it. But these platforms can also be seen as another example of the emotional labour that is increasingly required of porn performers. This includes performers depicting “authentic” desire in their videos, participating in on-camera interviews, and engaging with fans across multiple social media networks with differing regulations around nudity that can be challenging for adult performers to navigate. This article situates these direct-to-consumer platforms within the larger history of gay porn production, amateur video, and discourses of authenticity, and considers the possibilities of monetizing new forms of emotional labour, or what I refer to as “subscription intimacy.”

La accesibilidad y facilidad de uso de las Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación en los menores lleva a plantear que una de las cuestiones clave para su potencial de empoderamiento está vinculada al uso crítico de las mismas a través de la adquisición de habilidades críticas. El entorno familiar se postula como un factor determinante en la alfabetización digital y en la formación de ciudadanos críticos. El presente trabajo analiza el papel mediador de los padres en la educación de sus hijos. Plantea un modelo compresivo que recoge la influencia del estilo parental y la confianza de los progenitores hacia el medio interactivo en la adquisición de habilidades críticas por parte de los menores y se identifican los factores personales y contex-tuales que influyen sobre el estilo parental. El modelo se pone a prueba con una muestra representativa de 765 familias procedentes de la Comunidad de Madrid seleccionadas en función del nivel de enseñanza, tipo-logía de centro y nivel de renta del distrito. Se comprueba que el nivel educativo de los hijos es el factor más influyente en la adquisición de habilidades críticas. No obstante, cuanto menos restrictivo es el estilo de control parental de Internet, más positivamente influye en la adquisición de habilidades independientemente de la edad. Los resultados cuestionan el papel de las restricciones en el uso del medio interactivo para la formación de ciudadanos críticos.

Watching pornography online is a deeply personal, if not secretive act, yet the ease with which a near-infinite supply of adult content is shored up by networks of shared experiences. In fact, the persistent assumption that consuming adult content is a 'closed' experience has largely stunted efforts to reconceptualize online pornography as a "network experience." As Wendy Chun asks, "Why are networked devices described as 'personal,' when they are so chatty and promiscuous?" This article, therefore, attempts to 'pornify the network' by tracing the movement, flows, and processual emergence of networks that have been crucial to the formation and continued proliferation of online pornography. Two case studies are used to illustrate the persistence of this framework: the first theorizes 'edging' in early online pornography, while the second puts into question the politics of the world's largest porn website deploying user data for titillating effect. Theorizing a pornified network ultimately reroutes persistent technological imaginaries of the network through affect, sensation, and the entanglements of desire.

The deep-rooted changes that have taken place in the media world over recent years have brought about changes in both television itself and in the relationships established with this medium. Consequently, it is important to understand how young people watch television today, in order to design strategies to help them develop the capacities they require to ensure responsible use. With this aim, the present study analyzes the television viewing habits of 553 adolescents (267 boys and 286 girls), aged between 14 and 19, from ireland, Spain and Mexico. Through the implementation of two questionnaires (CH-Tv 0.2 and vAL-Tv 0.2), four viewing patterns were detected that can be generalized to all the contexts studied. Two of these patterns clearly distinguish between boys (critical-cultural) and girls (social-conversational), with boys viewing more cultural and information-oriented programs, and girls tending to watch shows with a view to talking about them later with their friends. Two of the variables which best distinguish between the other two patterns identified are the perception of a conflictive climate (conflictive-passive viewing) and the perception of responsible parental mediation (committed-positive viewing). Moreover, preferred television genre was found to be the factor with the greatest discriminatory power in relation to these patterns, while time spent watching television, perceived realism and cultural context were not found to be significant.

As a media genre, pornography aims to move the bodies of those watching, reading, and listening through depictions of bodies moving. Such motion, or animation of bodies, can be conceptualized through the concept of resonance as a dynamic sensory relation of varying intensity, rhythm, and speed where the affective and the emotional cohere and which becomes registered in bodies as they move from one state to another. This chapter argues for the productivity of the concept of resonance over that of identification in studies of pornography through an exploration of animated pornography. In their depictions of monstrous, impossible bodies, hyperbolic scenes of domination and submission, Japanese hentai and 3D monster porn both follow the representational conventions and push them on overdrive. The stiffness of character's motions and gestures, combined with their affectless facial expressions and regularly fantastic embodiments leave little for viewers to literally identify with. Since that which people enjoy in pornography may be disconnected from their sexual preferences, as practiced with other people, the notion of resonance opens up avenues for addressing gaps and frictions emerging between pornographic preferences and sexual identities. In doing so, resonance helps in conceptualizing the appeal of pornography beyond the notion of identification.

Background and aims: Adolescent Internet pornography viewing has been significantly increased in the last decade with research highlighting its association with Internet addiction (IA). However, there is little longitudinal data on this topic, particularly in relation to peer context effects. This study aimed to examine age-and context-related variations in the Internet pornography–IA association. Methods: A total of 648 adolescents, from 34 classrooms, were assessed at 16 years and then at 18 years to examine the effect of Internet pornography preference on IA in relation to the classroom context. IA was assessed using the Internet Addiction Test (Young, 1998), Internet pornography preference (over other Internet applications) was assessed with a binary (yes/no) question, and classroom introversion and openness to experience (OTE) with the synonymous subscales within the Five Factor Questionnaire (Asendorpf & Van Aken, 2003). Results: Three-level hierarchical linear models were calculated. Findings showed that viewing Internet pornography exacerbates the risk of IA over time, while classroom factors, such as the average level of OTE and introversion, differentially moderate this relationship. Discussion and conclusion: The study demonstrated that the contribution of Internet pornography preference (as an IA risk factor) might be increased in more extroverted classrooms and decreased in OTE classrooms.

This article examines two different cinematic explorations of 'risky' sex: one, the documentary Chemsex, on the combining of sex and drugs; the other, raw (condomless) porn – including auto-porn, porn made by the people engaged in the sex being filmed. It argues that, because the sexual is the site of so much ambivalence, its representation engages sensibilities far more nuanced than the term pleasure suggests.

Problem statement: Substance abuse continues to cause significant personal, social and economic costs to the US economy. In order to decrease these costs, the goal of the US public health policy has been to increase access to drug treatment services by increasing their affordability. Government policy makers try to achieve such a goal by providing direct public funding to private non-profit Drug Treatment Providers (DTPs) via grants and earmarks. It is argued that public funding will allow DTPs to offer lower prices for treatment services thus making them more affordable to people who need them. Although many DTPs depend heavily on government grants, there is little research examining the effect that public funding has on the affordability of treatment services. This study examines whether public funding increases the affordability of treatment services or whether instead there is a "flypaper effect" of such aid. The flypaper effect occurs when an exogenous aid sticks where it hits and thus fails to have the intended effect. Approach: This study examines the degree to which the price of treatment services is a function of public funding, net of DTP size, local socioeconomic conditions and state policy, using Hierarchical Linear Modeling (HLM) to adjust for endogeneity resulting from clustering of cases. Data from a 2009 national cross-sectional data set of DTPs are used for analysis. Results: The results show that when the data are analyzed using linear regression models, DTPs that receive public funding are statistically more likely to offer lower prices for their services. However, when Hierarchical Linear Models (HLM) are used, this effect diminishes and even disappears in some cases. Conclusion/Recommendations: The results of this study suggest that in order to maximize the benefits of the limited public funds available and make drug treatment services more affordable, public funds need to have stronger regulatory oversight as to ensure that these limited funds increase treatment affordability as intended.

Internationally renowned contemporary artist Wangechi Mutu is known for her collages that craft sexual and grotesque women's bodies by combining images of models from high fashion magazines, racialized pornography, and ethnographic photographs of African villagers. The discussion of gender in relation to Mutu's practice has been overwhelmingly framed through issues of sexual violence, exploitation, and trauma suffered by black women. Mutu's description of black pornography as obscene and aesthetically debased in contrast to more professionally styled mainstream porn featuring white women is the particular point of departure for this article. The artist appears to reference her own work in terms of the politics of class disgust and engages tropes of racialized pornography in order to demonstrate both the harm they pose to black women and her distance from them. However, another reading is possible, one in which Mutu unintentionally reclaims these tropes and exposes their potential erotic and political power for women of color. I explore how the grotesque aesthetics Mutu employs may conjure ambivalent responses to the erotic presentation of black women's bodies, and employ a multiperspectival approach that reckons with my own conflicting responses to her practice and the various stances on sexual representations of blackness articulated by the artist herself and by concerned scholars in gender, race, sexuality, art historical, and visual studies. Beyond expanding the standard interpretations of racialized gender in Mutu's work, tarrying with ambivalence may offer more complex pathways for theorizing sexual freedom, difference, and feminism with the nuance demanded of women of color’s varying erotic subjectivities and embodiments.

Boys Halfway House is a gay bareback pornography website that purports to host the recorded abuse exploits of managers of a halfway house. It is a recent addition to the genre niche of abuse and exploitation pornography sites that have surfaced in recent years. This article reads viewer commentary of scene updates on review site WayBig.com so as to consider the controversy associated with the proliferation of gay ‘abuse porn’, and of Boys Halfway House and its theme in particular. More than 500 comments over a 2-year period help explain Boys Halfway House as a variant of extreme pornography, and canvas a range of views on rape and humiliation fantasy in gay porn more broadly. The study ends with discussion of the anxieties and appreciations the site has prompted in viewers, and the presentation of two themes in particular: ‘bad porn’ and ‘harmful porn’. Also considered are the ethical implications of such male sexual abuse fantasies, which is a subject of lasting trauma for victims, and one that poses unique challenges in wider contexts.

The purpose of this volume is to broadly discuss the media’s responsibility to provide discursive contributions to the ethical and moral challenges of our times. At the crossroads of intellectual progress and profit-orientation, questionable concentration tendencies in the academic publishing industry pose a threat to the reputation and integrity of higher education. The actions of whistleblowers like Edward Snowden have radically changed our perception of privacy, stiring debates about the ethical and moral dilemma attached to the disclosures. Islam and religion continue to rank as urgent topics in the news – with the most influential contributors to thje public discourse often belonging to ideologically influenced Western voices. One century after the Bolshevik revolution in 1917, Russia is still negotiating how to categorize these events – which has recently beenpointed out in a controversial TV show. The example of Nigeria makes clear that insecurity and national development go hand in hand with responsible press coverage while the low self-perception of the Belarusian film industry is due partly to its depiction in the country’s only cinematographic publication.

The purpose of this article is to provide viewpoints and discussion of a variety of potentially problematic aspects and mechanisms regarding academic publishing in relation to economical and ethical issues. Starting with the establishment of wide-scale internet access in the beginning of the 21st century, a considerable increase of plagiarism and more sophisticated forms of academic fraud, expanded infrastructure of academic publication channels and forms, combined with strong tendencies of concentration in terms of research disciplines and outlets have now led to certain undesirable developments. Next to the general business model operating according to these parameters, the purpose, reliability and authenticity of circulated rankings and grading systems of academic publishers as well as citation indexes will be critically discussed in relation to new open access possibilities that start to question the outdated structures of the established system.

He depicts this peculiarity by illustrating that somewhere along the phylogenetic tree, a male of some archaic species physically penetrated his female counterpart. What a strange occurrence that must have been! Inspired by his discovery of the oldest-known fossil demonstrating internal fertilization, Materpiscis attenboroughi (a placoderm fish dated to be 540 million years old), Long takes the reader on a journey through the evolution of sexual reproduction. He uses the discovery of the embryo found within Masterpiscis attenboroughi as a starting point for a detailed account of the sexual anatomy and behavior of fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals, primates and, eventually, humans. Using a combination of evidence found in living species as well as clues preserved in the fossil record, Long provides a thorough account of how and why sexual reproduction might have evolved the way that it did.

Pornography is generic and predictable even in comparison with other popular genres. Familiar (stock) characters, phrases, scenarios, acts, expressions, shots and framings are repeated from one set of images or videos to another, from commercial to amateur productions and numerous things in-between. All this tends to involve a low degree of surprise. To the degree that repetition, predictability and hyperbole can indeed be considered as generic features of pornography, their role begs for closer consideration that goes beyond stating the obvious – namely that such characteristics do exist. This article draws on a content analysis of a sample of 366 porn spam email messages in an attempt to chart some of the key generic features of commercial heteroporn and its gendered underpinnings, as made accessible through this particular set of material. The article both investigates the specific modality of pornography and argues for the need to resist literal readings of its meaning. In the first part, I address the sample of porn spam email in order to map out some of the main generic features and dynamics of commercial pornography. The second part takes a broader look at online pornography and the ways in which the generic features and dynamics of porn (as mapped out in the first part) are played out in the case of viral videos displaying extreme porn, as well as what kinds of challenges are involved in making sense of such videos. All in all, the article suggests that feminist analyses should push beyond readings of pornography that are either literal (as in reading relations of control displayed in pornography as exemplary of social power relations, one-to-one) or symbolic (as in interpreting pornography as symptomatic of an ideology).
