Penelitian ini mengkaji penggunaan spektrofotometri serapan atom (SSA) untuk analisis kadar logam berat dalam sediaan farmasi. Berbagai penelitian menunjukkan bahwa logam berat seperti timbal (Pb), cadmium (Cd), dan tembaga (Cu) dapat menimbulkan efek negatif bagi kesehatan jika kadarnya melebihi batas yang ditetapkan. Metode ini diterapkan pada sampel daun ubi, ekstrak daun kemangi, dan produk kosmetik untuk menentukan kadar logam berat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metode spektrofotometri serapan atom efektif dalam mendeteksi dan mengukur kadar logam berat, serta memberikan informasi penting mengenai keamanan produk.

In the present study, we examined the light quality and photoperiod-dependent physiological performance of Mimosa pudica. Plants were grown in pots under white, blue, green and red-light compositions under 12 h per day (12/12 h) and 24 h per day (24/0 h) for 12 days. After 12 days, the physiological parameters’ morphology, fresh weight, chlorophyll fluorescence and biochemical analyses, which include antioxidants, lipid peroxidation, pigment content and carbohydrate content were also measured. Necrosis was found in red, blue and green light and the plant was senesced at the end of the experiment. The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of temperature on the degradation of clindamycin phosphate emulgel. This study aims to determine the rate of decomposition of clindamycin phosphate emulgel was storage at three different temperature of 30˚C, 50˚C, and 70˚C. Determination of percentage clindamycin phosphate was carried out every hour for 5 hours using Spectrophotometry UV -VIS. The results were statistically analyzed using the paired t-test. It was found a decrease in the levels of clindamycin phosphate emulgel at the storage temperature of 30˚C by 99.0874; 50˚C by 96.9314%, and a storage temperature of 70˚C by 96.0114%. Therefore, it can be said that clindamycin phosphate in emulgel preparations is chemically stable for 5 hours at a storage temperature of 30˚C, 50˚C, and 70˚C and the kinetics of the degradation rate of clindamycin phosphate in the emulgel preparation is in accordance with the second-order. Based on the statistically processed data result, it can be concluded that the storage temperature of 30˚C, 50˚C, and 70˚C shows that there is a significant difference (<0.005) in the data.

pudica Linn. (M. pudica L.) is a wild plant (weed) from the Mimosaceace family. This plant is widely used as a traditional medicine for various types of diseases such as insomnia, acute eye inflammation, urolithiasis (urinary stones), fever, and bronchitis. This study aimed to find out the effect of M. pudica leaf extract on the histological damage of the stomach and duodenum of mice. This study used a Completely Randomized Design with 24 male mice, which were divided into control placebo (P0) given CMC-Na 0.5%; and M. pudica leaf extract doses of 200 mg/kg body weight (P1); 400 mg/kg body weight (P2); and 600 mg/kg body weight (P3). The extract was administered orally for 28 days. On day 29, the animal was dissected to collect its digestive organs. The histological preparation of the stomach and duodenum of mice was performed by using the paraffin method and Hematoxylin and Eosin staining to observe the histological damage, namely congestion, hemorrhage, epithelial cells desquamation, inflammatory cell infiltration, edema, and hyperplasia. Quantitative data were analyzed with a one-way ANOVA test and Duncan's post hoc test with the SPSS version 22. The results showed that the M. pudica leaf extract increased hemorrhage and hyperplasia damage at doses of 400 and 600 mg/kg body weight in mice's duodenum.

Mimosa pudica Linn., also known as the "touch-me-not" plant, is a creeping perennial herb recognized for its
fast leaf-folding response to touch. This review examines the botanical, phytochemical, pharmacological, and
therapeutic properties of M. pudica. The plant contains numerous bioactive chemicals, including alkaloids,
flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and glycosides, which contribute to its diverse therapeutic qualities. Traditionally,
it was used to heal wounds, skin problems, diarrhea, and inflammation. Recent pharmacological research have
shown that it has antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antidiabetic, and hepatoprotective
properties. Its distinct thigmonastic response has piqued attention in plant physiology and environmental
adaptation research.

Traditional bone-setting (TBS) techniques were widely used in India before the advent of modern orthopaedics. Among the plants used in these practices, Ormocarpum cochinchinense, a medicinal plant native to Southeast Asia, has shown promising therapeutic properties in treating bone-related ailments. This review explores the biomedical applications of Ormocarpum cochinchinense, particularly focusing on its role in orthopaedics and dentistry. Phytochemical studies have revealed that this plant is rich in bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and alkaloids, which contribute to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. In orthopaedics, Ormocarpum cochinchinense has demonstrated significant potential in enhancing bone fracture healing, facilitating bone regeneration, and promoting osseous repair in preclinical studies. The plant has been shown to enhance calcium, phosphorus, and alkaline phosphatase levels, which are critical for bone repair. These properties position Ormocarpum cochinchinense as a promising candidate for developing novel treatments for bone fractures and other orthopaedic conditions. In the field of dentistry, Ormocarpum cochinchinense exhibits anti-inflammatory effects that may be beneficial in treating periodontal diseases such as periodontitis. Its antioxidant properties help reduce oxidative stress, a key factor in chronic inflammation and tissue degradation in periodontal conditions. Additionally, the plant shows potential as a bioscaffold for dental implants, promoting osseous regeneration and improving the healing process after dental surgeries. This review aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the phytochemical profile of Ormocarpum cochinchinense and its potential applications in both orthopaedic and dental fields, offering insights into future therapeutic uses.

To create pH-responsive microcapsules, the research involved microencapsulating n-eicosane
phase change material (PCM) with poly(MAA-co-ACR-co-ACN) for application on sanitary napkins.
The in-situ polymerization technique was employed for polymer synthesis. SEM, FTIR, and TGA were
used to verify the chemical structure and composition of pH-responsive microcapsules through
morphology and core-shell structure analysis. The free swell capacity and absorption under load in
tap water and saline solution were used to evaluate the absorbency of pH-responsive coated
sanitary napkins. Furthermore, strike through and the pH level of every coated sample was
investigated. Microcapsule coated napkins have an acidic pH value, and they are better suited for
maintaining the acidic pH of the vagina during menstruation, as at the time of menstruation, pH of
the blood is alkaline. So, the present work suggests the pH-responsive microcapsules for coating
the top layer of feminine napkin and the comparative result suggested by SEM, FTIR, TGA,
absorbency capacity, strike through and pH, clearly supports the process.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar o efeito citotóxico e genotóxico do antisséptico bucal gluconato de clorexidina por meio do teste de Allium cepa. As soluções utilizadas foram 0,03%, 0,06% e 0,12%, além do controle positivo e negativo. Observou-se 1.000 células por tratamento. Objective: Our study includes the investigation of the phytochemical composition and in vitro free radical content and antiinflammatory activity of Mimosa pudica. Materials and Method: Free radical scavenging assay was done to evaluate the dose dependent reduction of free radical by ethanolic extract of Mimosa pudica, this activity was compared with a reference antioxidant i.e. Ascorbic acid. The anti-inflammatory potential of ethanolic extract of Mimosa pudica has been determined by using carrageenan-induced paw edema assay and Cotton wool granuloma in rats. Results: The IC 50 of our sample was 24.55 µg/ml, it's a very much promising result comparing to same reference. At the dose of 300 mg/kg the extract shows considerable inhibitory effect on paw increase 1 hour after carrageenan administration, by inhibiting nearly 50%. The maximum inhibition (43.48%; p<0.001) elicited by the ethanolic extract was recorded after 4 hours after carrageenan injection. Diclofenac sodium which is a reference drug showed a similar inhibitory effect 4 hours after carrageenan administration (50.31%). The cotton wool granuloma is widely used to evaluate the transudative and proliferative components of chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation occurs by means of the developments of proliferated cells and which can be spread in granuloma form. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs decrease the size of granuloma which results from cellular reaction by inhibiting granulocyte infiltration, preventing generation of collagen fibers and suppressing mucopolysaccharides. The extract showed significant (p<0.01) anti-inflammatory activity in cotton wool induced granuloma with 33.64% of inhibition at higher dose. Conclusion: This finding suggests that ethanolic extract of M. pudica possess potent anti-inflammatory activity possibly due to its free radical scavenging properties.

Plumeria pudica, known as bridal bouquet, exhibiting characteristic symptoms of orthotospovirus infection were found in different localities in Brazil. Symptoms were restricted to leaves of the middle and lower thirds of a few branches of each plant. Electron microscopy, molecular analyses, and complete genome sequencing identified the orthotospovirus as groundnut ringspot virus (GRSV),member of the species Orthotospovirus arachianuli. The virus was poorly transmitted mechanically to P. pudica. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) analyses performed using total RNA extracted from leaf blades, primary veins, petioles, and regions of petiole insertion on branches indicated the presence of GRSV, predominantly in the symptomatic leaf blades. Antibacterial tests of Ag/SBA-15 from petung bamboo leaf ash against Escherichia coli were carried out. Modification of SBA-15 with Ag was conducted using the wet impregnation method while the antibacterial test was carried out by well diffusion method and disc diffusion method with various concentrations of Ag/SBA-15. The Ag/SBA-15 has a surface area of ​ ​ 143 m2/g, pore diameter of 8.4 nm and pore volume of 0.35 cm3/g. The SAXS pattern of Ag /SBA-15 showed 3 typical SBA-15 peaks in the 0o -2o 2θ range with the miller index [100], [110] and [200], indicating modification with Ag did not change the hexagonal structure of SBA-15. Ag / SBA-15 material has the potential as an antibacterial agent for Escherichia coli; the inhibitory zone diameters for the well diffusion method and disc diffusion method were 7.00 ± 0.57 mm and 13.16 ± 0.16 mm, respectively. Increasing the concentration of Ag/SBA-15 samples resulted in greater inhibitory zone diameters for the bacteria.

The purpose of this research was to explore the composition and genomic functions of bacterial community inhabiting the rhizosphere of Mimosa pudica, which were naturally growing on tailing and non-tailing soils of an ex-tin mining area. Methodology and results: DNA were extracted from rhizosphere soils and PCR targeting the hypervariable region V3-V4 was carried out by Illumina 16S metagenomic library. Libraries were sequenced using Illumina MiSeq. The Operational Taxonomic Units (OTUs) were assigned to 23 bacterial phyla, 72 classes, 165 orders, 248 families and 357 genera. The most represented and dominant phylum was Proteobacteria, with an average abundance value of 41.2%. The most represented genera included Paraburkholderia, Bradyrhizobium, Bacillus, Candidatus, Acidothermus, Acidibacter and Nitrospira. Non-tailing soils had more number and richness of species while the tailings had more diversity of species. The metagenomes accommodate suspected genes for heavy metal tolerance of microbes (As, Cr, Co, Zn, Ni, Cu, Cd, Fe and Hg) and microbial plant-growth-promoting traits for hyperaccumulator plants (synthesis of indole acetic acid (IAA), siderophore and 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) deaminase; solubilization of phosphate and potassium and nitrogen fixation). Conclusion, significance and impact of study: Bacteria and predicted genes discovered could be part of major factors influencing growth of M. pudica in heavy metal-contaminated soils. The study provides the first report and a basis into the bacterial community associated with M. pudica in ex-tin mining soils from the studied geographical location. The findings also provide fundamental knowledge on phytoremediation potential of heavy metal contaminated soils involving indigenous beneficial microbial populations.

The study was carried out to isolate and screen indigenous rhizobacteria associated with Mimosa pudica in ex-tin mining soil with the potential to sustain plant growth-promoting (PGP) traits under heavy metals (HM) stress condition. A total of 58 bacterial strains were isolated, screened for HM (As, Pb and Cd) tolerance and for various PGP traits. Production of PGP substances by selected isolates under influence of HM was further evaluated. The results revealed 5 isolates as HM tolerant (2M1, 3M1 and 3M3 as Pb tolerant; 3M3 and 4M9 as Cd tolerant while 6M2 as As tolerant) and possessing all tested PGP traits. The isolates were identified based on 16S rRNA as Bacillus cereus 2M1, Bacillus cereus 3M1, Bacillus pseudomycoides 3M3, Enterobacter tabaci 4M9 and Pseudomonas plecoglossicida 6M2. Tested isolates sustained PGP traits and withstand high HM stress conditions, particularly isolates 6M2 Pseudomonas plecoglossicida, 4M9 Enterobacter tabaci and 2M1 Bacillus cereus (6M2 had the overall best performance compared to other isolates). The strains are therefore expected to be the major contributing factors for survival of Mimosa pudica which were endemic in the abandoned mining sites and provide basis for using indigenous bacteria for bioremediation of HM contaminated soils.

In order to understand the all-chemical-solution-deposition (CSD) processes for manufacturing coated conductors, we investigated the phase evolution of YBa2Cu3O7 (YBCO) films deposited by a low-fluorine metal-organic solution deposition (LF-MOD) method on CSD derived Ce0.9La0.1O2/Gd2Zr2O7/NiW. It is shown that the phase transition from the pyrolyzed film to fully converted YBCO film in the LF-MOD process is similar to that in typical trifluoroacetates-metal organic deposition (TFA-MOD) processes even though the amount of TFA in the solution is reduced by almost one half compared with typical TFAMOD cases. Moreover, we found that the formation of impurities (mainly BaCeO3, NiWO4 and NiO) is strongly related to the annealing temperature, i.e., the diffusion controlled reactions become intensive from 760 o C, which might be connected with the poor structural and superconducting properties of the films deposited at high sintering temperatures. Mimosa pudica L. (family Fabaceae) is an invasive species with ornamental and medicinal uses (Nayagam et al., 1999), native to Brazil and widespread in tropical and sub-tropical parts of the Americas, Africa and Asia, including India. The vernacular English name (touch-me-not) originates from the fact that the leaves fold inward when touched or shaken and reopen after a few minutes (seismonastic movement). Mimosa pudica herb is widely found in western ghat. The anticancer potential especially against breast cancer is proved by many scientific investigators. However, poor skin permeability of active constituents limits the therapeutic use of this herbal active. Transfersomes are modified liposomes with improved skin permeation ability. Thus, extract loaded transfersomes were formulated to improve skin permeation of extract. The transfersomes are phospholipid based vesicles with edge activators. The edge activators increase skin permeation of transfersomes. The extract loaded transfersomes were fabricated using thin film hydration and assessed for vesicle size, microscopic imaging and thermal behavior. The transfersomes showed acceptable vesicle size and zeta potential. Thus, formulated transfersomes could be promising alternative for skin permeation enhancement of herbal active.

Coleus scutellarioides (L.) Benth. is a very popular ornamental plant with attractive colorful foliage and also has several medicinal properties. A detailed cytogenetical study was conducted in the Red Trailing Queen horticultural form of this species. Hitherto, elaborate cytogenetic studies in this species received less attention and all of the previous studies on chromosomes are decades old. Thus, a reassessment and detailed cytogenetic study of this species are necessary. The karyotype study revealed that somatic cells contain 2n=48 small chromosomes, classified into metacentric to submetacentric. Meiotic chromosomes stained with acetocarmine and 4′,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) revealed the occurrence of univalent, bivalent, and multivalent associations of chromosomes along with secondary associations. The result confirms the allopolyploid origin of this plant. Meiotic irregularities like laggard chromosomes and multipolarity movement have also been found. In addition to that, variation in the chromosome numbers within pollen mother cells (PMCs) has been observed frequently. Pollen viability has been determined by fluorescein diacetate (FDA) and found to be very low. Rosmarinic acid (RA) is a natural polyphenol utilized as an anti-microbial, immunomodulatory, anti-diabetic, anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, hepato-protectant, and renal-protectant agent. The RA content has been quantified through high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to find out the medicinal efficacy. The present investigation on detailed cytogenetics study along with the pollen viability will be beneficial in the breeding program and accordingly useful in further improvement of this ornamental medicinal plant.

Una marcha fitoquímica es un proceso que se le realiza a determinado material vegetal , para la extracción y estudio de sus metabolitos secundarios, en busca de evaluar dichos metabolitos se realizó una marcha fitoquímica en R. graveolens usando método de extracción por percolación, posteriormente se sometió a separación de fases (etanólica y orgánica) con ayuda de un embudo de decantación y la aplicación de etanol , además se realizaron pruebas cualitativas para saber la presencia de sus metabolitos. Se obtuvo que los metabolitos dominantes fueron alcaloides, conociendo esto se realizó un proceso de evaporación del líquido y de la parte sólida resultante ,se disolvió en concentración 9,96 mg*ml , se aplicó a una muestra de 40 semillas de L. sativa que se dividió en 3 réplicas y una réplica blanco, esto en busca de investigar el comportamiento de dicha planta al aplicar el extracto con alcaloides, donde se pudo evidenciar cómo dichos metabolitos intervinieron en el normal crecimiento de la plántula ,ya que, inhibieron el normal desarrollo de la planta.

The present study was executed to evaluate the In-vitro anti-inflammatory activity of aqueous extract of whole part of Mimosa pudica against inhibition of protein denaturation & heat induced haemolysis methods. Six different concentrations of Mimosa pudica aqueous extract and Paracetamol solution (31.25 μg/ml, 62.5 μg/ml, 125.5 μg/ml, 250 μg/ml, 500 μg/ml, 1000 μg/ml) were made and incubated with egg albumin and 10% RBC solution in standard experimental conditions and it is taken to determine the absorbance to obtain the anti-inflammatory activity. Paracetamol was used as a standard drug. In both protein denaturation & heat induced haemolysis methods, the effect of paracetamol was found to be less effective when compared with the plant extract. Hence from the results, protein denaturation method at concentration of 1000 μg/ml extract (81.12%) showed maximum anti-inflammatory activity compared to the Heat Induced Haemolysis methods at concentration of 1000 μg/ml extract (67.51%). From the current study it can reveals that the presence of different phytochemicals such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, phenols and glycosides are responsible for the maximum anti-inflammatory activity against protein denaturation &heat induced haemolysis methods.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas ekstrak daun kemangi (Ocimum sanctum L.) dalam menghambat pertumbuhan Neisseria gonorrhoeae dan untuk mengetahui konsentrasi paling efektif dari sari daun kemangi (Ocimum basilicum L.) terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Penelitian ini menggunakan studi literatur dari buku dan jurnal yang didapatkan melalui Google Scholar. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan ekstrak daun kemangi (Ocimum sanctum L.) efektif menekan secara in vitro pertumbuhan Neisseria gonorrhoeae pada konsentrasi 80% dan 100%, dengan konsentrasi 80% paling efektif. Although plants and animals both assess their environment and respond to stimuli, this reaction is considered a behavior in animals and a response in plants. Responses in plants are seen within various timescales-from the nanosecond stimuli is presented to a lifelong progression. Within this study, we bridge the gap between animal behavioral studies and plant response. Sensitive plants (Mimosa pudica L.) are an ideal subject for this due to the rapid closure of their primary leaflets when touched. We designed a multimodal, or stress combination, experiment to test two hypotheses with sensitive plants: if they could be distracted and if they would alter their risk assessment when exposed to external stimuli (wind and sound). To evaluate the distraction hypothesis, we measured an individual's latency to close, hypothesizing that if the plants were distracted, they would take longer to close. To evaluate the uncertain risk hypothesis, we quantified the latency to reopen, hypothesizing that if the plants were uncertain, they would take longer to reopen. We also quantified the number of pinnae closed on the selected stem to test for changes in risk assessment across treatments. We expected the unimodal treatments would distract or alter risk assessment, and the multimodal treatment would elicit an enhanced response. Multimodal stimuli had a significant effect on the number of pinnae closed before the tap, but we found no evidence that plants were distracted by any stimulus tested. We found that temperature had a significant effect on the latency to close, and that plants modified their risk assessment when exposed to experimental wind stimuli. By manipulating environmental stimuli, we found that sensitive plants trade-off energy and perceived risk much in the way that is commonly found in animals. Framing the study of plants' responses to environmental stimuli as behavioral questions may generate new insights.

The objective of this study was to know the effect of time and drying temperature on the chemical and sensory properties of herbal tea bag made from Mimosa pudica Linn. leaves and to know the right time and drying temperature to get the best chemical and sensory properties of herbal tea bag of Mimosa pudica Linn. leaves. This research used a Completely Randomized Design with two factors i.e. drying temperature (40°C, 50°C, and 60°C) and drying time (110, 130, and 150 minutes). All of the treatments were repeated two times to obtain 18 units of experiments. Objective: The present study is an attempt to investigate the antioxidant and anticancer potential of hydroalcoholic extract of Mimosa pudica Linn (Mimosaceae) and L-Mimosine on Daudi cell line. The analysis of the standard compound L-Mimosine was ascertained by High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC). Free radical scavenging activity of M. pudica extract and L-Mimosine was also compared using 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazylradical scavenging assay (DPPH). Cell viability and cytotoxicity on Daudi cells were evaluated by trypan blue and 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assays in a dose and time-dependent manner respectively. Results: HPTLC analysis showed the presence of amino acids, amines, lipids in the hydroalcoholic extract of M. pudica. Crude hydroalcoholic extract of M. pudica showed antioxidant activity (IC50=103.88 µg/ml) whereas L-Mimosine showed antioxidant activity (IC50=233.06 µM). The crude extract and compound inhibited the proliferation and growth of the Daudi cells through induced cell death. This study aimed establish the variations in the phytotoxic activity of hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of Moutabea guianensis, and methyl caffeate and scopoletin isolated from the ethyl acetate extract, variyng the concentration and the receptor species. Phytotoxic activity bioassays of germination (at 25 °C and 12 hours of photoperiod) and development of radicle and hypocotyl (25 °C and 24 hours of photoperiod) were developed. Saturable in vitro binding of [14C-carboxyl]-PLMF 1 was found to be present in plasma membrane fractions of leaves from Mimosa pudica L. The chlorophyll-free preparations of plasma membranes were obtained from microsomes by partitioning in an aqueous dextran, polyethylene glycol two-phase system. The plasma membranes were right-side-out orientated and sealed vesicles, as measured by the latent K+,Mg2+-ATPase activity upon addition of Triton X-l00. At least one PLMF 1 binding site was found with a KD-value of 45 /LM. The number of binding sites amounted to 4.4 nmol! mg protein. The half-maximal dose-response (ECso) of PLMF 1 to initiate leaflet movement was 5.5/LM. The discrepancy between KD and ECso is discussed using the spare receptor model as well as by a mechanism using signal amplification via a second mediator. The results from bioassays carried out with the PLMF l-enantiomer and the PLMF l-anomer were found to be consistent with the results mentioned above. All the findings point to the existence of a PLMF l-specific receptor in Mimosa pudica L.

he aim of this study was to observe the effect of microemulsion system w/o type on the characteristics of dosage form and release of diclofenac sodium in HPMC 4000 gel base. The ratio of surfactant (Span 80-Tween 80): cosurfactant (ethanol 96%), was used to make microemulsion is 6:1. Diclofenac sodium with emulsion in gel base was used as comparator. The evaluation included organoleptic, pH, spread diameter measurement of zero load, and also diclofenac sodium release test from gel base of each formula. Data from pH test, spread diameter measurement of zero load, and flux of drug release test were evaluated based on independent sample t-test. Data analysis showed that pH for microemulsion system in gel base (formula I) was 6.59±0.006 and emulsion system in gel base (formula II) was 6.55±0.047. We report the isolation of Fonsecaea pedrosoi from thorns of the plant Mimosa pudica L. at the place of infection identified by one of our patients. Clinical diagnosis of chromoblastomycosis was established by direct microscopic examination and cultures from the patient&#39;s lesion. The same species was isolated from the patient and from the plant. Scanning electron microscopy of the surface of the thorns showed the characteristic conidial arrangement of F. pedrosoi. These data indicate that M. pudica could be a natural source of infection for the fungus F. pedrosoi.

Mimosa is a large genus of about 400 species of herbs and shrubs belonging to the Fabaceae family (Leguminosae). Many common species of this genus were reported with several important biological activities including antibacterial, antifungal, antiinflammation and antioxidant. This study is aimed to investigate morphological characteristics and genetic relationships among 3 species of Mimosa genus: Mimosa pudica, Mimosa pigra and Mimosa diplotricha. In this context, morphological characteristics indicated the similarities and differences of stems, leaves, flowers and fruits. It is also showed that all of three species have some typical traits of Mimosa genus such as stem with thorns, touched-sensitive leaves, light pink flowers and flowers are grouped into fluffy globular clusters. Individual characteristics of each species recorded show differences such as leaves, stems, flowers and fruits in size, color and shape. This study combined the morphological report with DNA barcoding data to improve the data. Phylogeny indicated that Mimosa pigra and Mimosa diplotricha are close relationship rather than Mimosa pudica basied on ITS marker and matK sequences analysis.

A theoretical model based on the water redistribution mechanism is proposed to predict the volumetric strain of motor cells in Mimosa pudica during the seismonastic movement. The model describes the water and ion movements following the opening of ion channels triggered by stimulation. The cellular strain is related to the angular velocity of the plant movement, and both their predictions are in good agreement with experimental data, thus validating the water redistribution mechanism. The results reveal that an increase in ion diffusivity across the cell membrane of <15-fold is sufficient to produce the observed seismonastic movement.

Background: The leaf of sensitive plant (Mimosa pudica Linn) has a fairly high content of flavonoids, which work in inhibiting the tyrosinase enzyme. Changes in the formation of this enzyme will cause the melanin pigment to be disrupted, resulting in the appearance of skin pigmentation disorders (hyperpigmentation). The purpose of this study was to prove the effectiveness of 15% sensitive plant leaf extract cream on guinea pig skin exposed to ultraviolet B (UVB). Methods: This is true experimental research using randomized post-test only control group design. The subjects were 30 male guinea pigs randomly divided into 3 groups, namely the control group (K), treatment group 1 (P1), and treatment group 2 (P2). Control group was not given any treatment, P1 was smeared with basic cream and exposed to UVB and P2 was smeared with 15% sensitive plant leaf extract cream and exposed to UVB for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, the tyrosinase enzyme level were examined using ELISA and melanin amount were examined using Masson Fontana staining. The result was analyzed using comparative test between groups. Results: The tyrosinase enzyme in P2 group was 5,440,63 ng/ml, which is lower than K group (8,600,16 ng/ml (p<0,001)) and P1 (12,96±2,21 ng/ml (p<0,001)). The mean melanin amount in P2 was 0,090,07 %, which was also lower than K (0,310,24 % (p=0,049)) and P1 (0,53±0,47 % (p=0,043)). Conclusion: Administration of sensitive plant leaf extract cream inhibited the increase in tyrosinase enzyme and melanin amount in guinea pig exposed to UVB and normal subjects.

Mimosa pudica herb is widely found in western ghat. The anticancer potential especially against breast cancer is proved by many scientific investigators. However, poor skin permeability of active constituents limits the therapeutic use of this herbal active. Transfersomes are modified liposomes with improved skin permeation ability. Thus, extract loaded transfersomes were formulated to improve skin permeation of extract. The transfersomes are phospholipid based vesicles with edge activators. The edge activators increase skin permeation of transfersomes. The extract loaded transfersomes were fabricated using thin film hydration and assessed for vesicle size, microscopic imaging and thermal behavior. The transfersomes showed acceptable vesicle size and zeta potential. Thus, formulated transfersomes could be promising alternative for skin permeation enhancement of herbal active.

Akter, et al.: Screening of Medicinal Plants for Antibacterial Activity Organic extracts (ethanol, petroleum ether and chloroform) of two medicinal plants Lawsonia inermis L. and Mimosa pudica L. were proven for antibacterial properties against 15 Gram-positive and Gram-negative human pathogenic bacteria. Among the three types of extracts tested, ethanol extract was found to possess maximum antibacterial activity. The diameter of the zone of inhibition of bacterial growth showed that Gram-negative bacteria are more sensitive than Gram-positive bacteria to plant extracts. Between the two plants species studied, Lawsonia inermis extract showed more antibacterial activity compared to Mimosa pudica extract.

The constant use of chemotherapy induces resistance in the cancer cells and they become refractive to treatment leading to treatment failure. Therefore, it is necessary to screen newer agents which are less toxic and kill neoplastic cells effectively. Plants have provided several anticancer modern chemotherapeutic drugs including vinca alkaloids, taxols, epipodophyllotoxins etc. and still can provide newer molecules for cancer treatment. Therefore, present study was undertaken to study the cytotoxic activity of Mimosa pudica or Lajwanti whole plant extracted in chloroform, ethanol and water in cultured Dalton's ascites lymphoma cells that were treated with 0, 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, 200 and 250µg/ ml of chloroform, ethanol and aqueous extracts by MTT assay. The chloroform, ethanol and aqueous extracts of Lajwanti killed Dalton's ascites lymphoma cells in a dose related manner and the aqueous extract was most potent when compared to ethanol and chloroform extracts. The aqueous extract had an IC 50 value of 71.32µg/ml followed by ethanol extract with an IC 50 of 90.33µg/ml, whereas chloroform extract was least effective with an IC 50 of 1190.69µg/ml. Our study demonstrates that Lajwanti, a traditionally used plant in Ayurveda has a cytotoxic activity and may be useful to kill neoplastic cells.

An exploratory floristic survey of the genus Mimosa was conducted in 1993 to ascertain species diversity and their spatial patterns of distribution in Peninsular Malaysia. A new species record of uncertain indigene, M.. quadrivalvis was recorded for the first time in restricted localities along the roadsides in Pekan Darat and Bertam, Seberang Perai, Gurun and Bedong in Kedah in addition to widely distributed and seemingly ubiquitous presence of M. invisa Mart. ex. Colla and M. pudica L. The latter two species were mostly found in open, disturbed and derelict habitats, agricultural areas and ex-mining lands. Both species exhibited largely contagious and overdispersed distribution patterns with positive peaks in pattern intensity values although regularity or underdispersed distribution patterns do manifest in certain localities. The giant mimosa, M. pigra inhabited in clustered thickets, large pockets of lands in the urban and suburban localities in the states of Penang, Perak, Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan. In other states, M. pigra was confined to a few localities in smaller patches. Except for M. quadrivalvis, the other species of Mimosa are serious weeds in the agricultural, recreational and residential and derelict areas. A key to the Mimosa species is constructed along with brief descriptions on their morphology and ecology.

Dye-sensitized solar cells have been massive attention research because they are easy in fabrication, low-cost, sustainable, abundant material dye sources and high efficiency in power energy conversion. The natural dye that was extracted from Mimosa pudica Linn is potential to be used as a sensitizer for Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell. In this work, the dyes were extracted from three parts of plants; leaves, flowers, and the mix. TiO2 was used as the active material for semiconductor and applied by using the Doctor Blade method. Testing cells and the measurement of the voltage and the current were done outside under the sun irradiation. The UV-Vis spectra of the dyes indicated that the absorption of the three samples shows significant absorptions in quite similar wavelengths, approximately 665 nm. The DSSC cells had 0.16 %; 0.12 %; 0.01 % of conversion energy efficiency for flowers, leafs and mix respectively. These results indicated that the dye which is extracted from the flower of Mimosa pudica Linn is higher among all extracts.

Background There is high mortality and morbidity due to poisonous snakebites globally, with Sub Saharan African having one of the highest rates. However, Traditional Medicine Practitioners (TMP) have been treating snakebites in Uganda for long. However, few studies have been conducted to document such vital traditional indigenous knowledge before its lost. The aim of this study was to document the medicinal plant species used by experienced TMP in treating snake envenomation in selected post-conflict parts of northern Uganda. Methods An ethnopharmacological survey was conducted in Serere, Kaberamaido and Kaabong districts in Uganda. Twenty-five TMP with expertise in treating snakebites were purposively identified using the snowball technique, and interviewed using semi structured questionnaires. The objective of this study was to produce a Carbopol 940 based gel formula containing an Azadirachta indica leaf extract and evaluate its anti-acne potential. The ethanolic extract was derived from the dried leaves of Azadirachta indica and was subjected to a phytochemical evaluation. Three gel formulations of Carbopol 940 containing an Azadirachta indica extract in three different concentrations, i.e., 1, 2, and 3% w/w were prepared. These gels were evaluated for their physical appearance, antimicrobial activity, skin irritability, pH, spreadability, and viscosity. The prepared formulas were stable, greenish and homogeneous. None of them showed irritation to the skin. The spreadability (g.cm/sec), viscosity (cps), and pH of all three formulations was 34.68, 53 270-65 400, and 7-8, respectively. Gel-III exhibited the highest antimicrobial potential against Propionibacterium acne, the main causative organism of acne with a zone of inhibition of 16.2 ± 0.6 mm. It was revealed from the acne healing studies that the elimination time for the acne treated with Gel-III was 15 days. A formulation gel containing 3% w/w extract showed better antimicrobial activity, physicochemical characteristics, and pharmacological parameters than the other formulations. It can be concluded that the acne healing process was faster with the gel formulation containing 3% w/w of the Azadirachta indica extract, proposing that this formulation is a promising candidate for acne healing.

In the present study, we examined the light quality and photoperiod-dependent physiological performance of Mimosa pudica. Plants were grown in pots under white, blue, green and red-light compositions under 12 h per day (12/12 h) and 24 h per day (24/0 h) for 12 days. After 12 days, the physiological parameters’ morphology, fresh weight, chlorophyll fluorescence and biochemical analyses, which include antioxidants, lipid peroxidation, pigment content and carbohydrate content were also measured. Necrosis was found in red, blue and green light and the plant was senesced at the end of the experiment. The blue 24-h light period showed the highest pigment and antioxidant content, whereas the lowest was observed in green light conditions. The OJIP curve was complete in white light, hence it was not completely formed in red, blue and green light. The phenomenological parameters also fluctuated in different light conditions. Penelitian tentang uji aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak metanol dan etil asetat pada benalu kakao (dendrophthoe pentandra (l.) Miq.) terhadap bakteri staphylococcus aureus dan escherichia coli telah dilakukan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri daun benalu kakao (Dendrophthoe pentandra (L.) Miq.) terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Penelitian ini bersifat laboratorium dengan pengujian aktivitas anti bakteri sample benalu kakao (Dendrophthoe pentandra (L.) Miq). Hasil penelitian menyatakan bahwa antibakteri dari ekstrak methanol dan etil asetat daun benalu kakao mampu menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli disekitar kertas cakram setelah diencerkan dalam DMSO dengan variasi konsentrasi ekstrak methanol dan etil asetat daun benalu kakao yaitu ekstrak metanol daun benalu kakao pada bakteri gram positif Staphylococcus aureus dengan konsentrasi 500 mg/ml menunjukkan aktivitas dengan zona hambat 13,9 mm (lemah/resistant), pada bakteri gram negatif Escherichia coli dengan konsentrasi 500 mg/ml menunjukkan aktivitas dengan zona hambat masing-masing 13,8 mm (lemah/resistant). Ekstrak etil asetat daun benalu kakao pada bakteri gram positif Staphylococcus aureus dengan konsentrasi 500 mg/ml menunjukkan aktivitas dengan zona hambat 16,2 mm (sedang/intermediate) dan pada bakteri gram negatif Escherichia coli dengan konsentrasi 500 mg/ml menunjukkan aktivitas dengan zona hambat 15,1 mm (sedang/intermediate).

The decoction of Mimosa pudica leaves given intraperitoneally at dose of 1000-4000 mgy kg protected mice against pentylentetrazol and strychnine-induced seizures. M. pudica had no effect against picrotoxin-induced seizures It also antagonized N-methyl-D-aspartateinduced turning behavior. These properties could explain its use in African traditional medicine.
