This paper explores four published articles that report on results from research conducted on online (Internet) and offline (non-Internet) relationships and their relationship to computer-mediated communication (CMC). The articles, however, vary in their definitions and uses of CMC. Butler, and Kraut (2002) suggest that face-to-face (FtF) interactions are more effective than CMC, defined and used as "email," in creating feelings of closeness or intimacy. Other articles define CMC differently and, therefore, offer different results. This paper examines Cummings et al.'s research in relation to three other research articles to suggest that all forms of CMC should be studied in order to fully understand how CMC influences online and offline relationships.

Maritime English being branch of ESP is inseparable and very important part of Maritime field. Nevertheless, it is subject of Linguistics as well and therefore can be viewed from linguistic point of view. The basis of any branch of ESP is General English which is very important for perfect mastering of special language.
In my opinion along with Maritime English the students should be taught General English (GE) on the proper level as well. The better they know certain level of GE the better they can acquire specific language.
Any language is a part of national culture. Successful language learners usually get close to the language they study and to the culture this language belongs to. Mastering of GE is a good way to break cultural barriers. Language is a part of any nation’s culture which will help to understand English culture better if all nations know it properly, they will
understand each other better not only on linguistic but also on the cultural level. When learners of English get closer to the language not only from linguistic point of view but also from cultural point of view, different ways of human communication, including body language and means of non-verbal communication, become more familiar to them. It facilitates communication of seafarers from different countries with each other, thus ensuring safety and decreasing risk factors.
Only combination of good knowledge of GE and ME can give successful linguistic feedback to seafarers that is so necessary for Maritime field to make human communication more effective and diminish the risk factors caused by ineffective language communication.

Knowing the “other” paves the way for the rise of a new discipline named the science of image or imageology. This discipline is one of the branches of Comparative Literature, and it studies the picture of the “other” in literary texts. The image of the “other” is formed through the familiarity of the scholar under the name of “Me” with the other under the name of the “other”, and its analysis is based upon the tenets that imageologists have laid down. The most important of these tenets are as follows: modes of reading the “other”, and the influential factors in image-making. Since the study of imageology gives way to the knowing of different peoples and the awareness of their culture and civilization, therefore it is of prime importance in literary studies. The present paper studies the image of Bahª al-Dawlah in Sharif al-Raḍi’s poetry, so as to show, how his image is formed. Bahª al-Dawlah was one of the rulers of Būyids, an Iranian dynasty that ruled over some parts of Iran and Iraq during the fourth and fifth century A. H. Sharif al-Raḍi was his contemporary and had a very close contact with him in Iraq for 24 years, that is why Sharif depicts his image in his poetry. As this study shows, the poet has pictured the “other” while his pictured image is mixed with the partiality to his race, with the prejudice to “Me”, with pride of him, with anger towards the “other”, and with resistance against him. However, he has not deformed the image of the “other”, and his image in his Divan is very close to historical realities. Also, in his image-making, the poet has been under the influence of personal, social, political and religious factors like his attribution to Bani-Hᾱshim, injustice in the distribution of richness, trespassing the other, the conflict between Būyids rulers, and the tension between Sunni and Shiite.

The objective of the paper is to search the mechanism to get solution of the problem that causes tyranny in a multicultural and multilingual liberal society. Relativism is a great factor on the way to get a positive result in this respect. Because it is argued from the relativistic point of view that the goodness or value of a culture practiced by an individual or in a community is relative. A certain action may not be accepted to a community but might be welcomed in another community. Some philosophers like Rachels prescribes to solve the problem by upholding Aristotelian virtue ethics and claims to establish universal proposition deactivating the issue of relativism. He contends that relativism does not matter. But I think and so argue that relativism dose matter and an individual person or a community has the right to practice, propagate and preserve his/its own culture. It is because sometimes culture carries identity. In this paper I intend to show that it is possible to bring / ensure social and political harmony in a multicultural society subject to ensure due respect to the culture of every community. And in this connection I will propose the concept of Public Reason that Rawls prescribed in his Political Liberalism. My point is that social harmony, multiculturalism and relativism are interconnected issues. This interconnectedness can not be ignored. Multicultural affinity is a common scenario in this globalized world and to be a perfect citizen of this global village we need to accept the reality of multicultural society on the one hand, and on the other hand , every community has right to practice his own culture maintaining the harm principle. I will find out this interconnectedness between these three concepts and the mechanism to build this interconnection. The paper is divided into two sections. In the first section the notion of multiculturalism and the notion of relativism will be discussed and in the second section John Rawls' conception of Public Reason and other proposals for the solution of the problem will be discussed and commented upon.

This paper discuses online information seeking behavior of students for sustainable education among students of higher learning institutions. Online information seeking behavior is a relatively new phenomenon. However, it is the active process of obtaining data from the Web. Libraries and Universities are continuously adapting and seeking effective ways to respond to the fundamental and interconnected missions of research, teaching and community service, and that is why some have embraced the use of the Internet in service delivery. On the other hand, this study is more concerned with maximizing usage of this resource by students in fulfilling their primary aim of research and reaching out to these resources on the Internet using the requisite navigational skills. The paper says the Internet offers widespread access to electronic resources and also has the advantages of interactivity, and information tailoring. It also agrees that access is inequitable and use is hindered by navigational challenges due to numerous factors e.g. disorganization, technical language and lack of permanence. Meager information evaluation skills add to students’ vulnerability. The paper highlights some information seeking models to assist students in their search for information on the Internet. Also it highlights the role of the library in the information seeking process of students. The paper concludes that though Information and communication technologies are being put in place for use by students, they must possess the requisite skill to use them appropriately.

Season of birth (SOB) has been associated with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in two existing studies. One further study reported an interaction between SOB and genotypes of the dopamine D4 receptor (DRD4) gene. It is important that these findings are further investigated to confirm or refute the findings. In this study, we investigated the SOB association with ADHD in four independent samples collected for molecular genetic studies of ADHD and found a small but significant increase in summer births compared to a large population control dataset. We also observed a significant association with the 7-repeat allele of the DRD4 gene variable number tandem repeat polymorphism in exon three with probands born in the winter season, with no significant differential transmission of this allele between summer and winter seasons. Preferential transmission of the 2-repeat allele to ADHD probands occurred in those who were born during the summer season, but did not surpass significance for association, even though the difference in transmission between the two seasons was nominally significant. However, following adjustment for multiple testing of alleles none of the SOB effects remained significant. We conclude that the DRD4 7-repeat allele is associated with ADHD but there is no association or interaction with SOB for increased risk for ADHD. Our findings suggest that we can refute a possible effect of SOB for ADHD. © 2007 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

The primary goal of this study is to provide a theoretical model that shows explicit solutions for equilibrium prices and derives the equilibrium required return for the firm's stock price. In other words, this theoretical study provides a direct link between accounting information, related to the firm's reports, and the cost of capital within an equilibrium setting. Accounting information is judged to be of high value because it affects the market's ability to direct firms' capital allocation choices. The findings showed that an increase in expected cash flows, coming from improvements in the quality of accounting information, leads to a reduction in the firm's cost of capital.

This study aimed at quantitatively evaluating the sugarcane losses and the damage caused to the ratoon cane while using the Case IH A8800 harvester in different displacement speeds; it was conducted in the municipality of Campos dos Goytacazes, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Three speeds were used as treatment (2 km•h −1 , 3 km•h −1 , and 4.5 km•h −1), and each treatment was composed of six rows of harvested ratoon, each with a length of 290 m. In order to evaluate the quantitative losses in t•ha −1 and the percentage of losses, the remaining sugarcane, left on the field after harvesting, was collected. The sampling frame was set to every 50 m, dividing the borders by 40 m; the measurement for each sampling area was of 20 m 2 , with five repetitions. In order to evaluate the damage caused to the ratoon canes, we chose a visual methodology to classify the damage degrees, ranging from one to four. There was no significant difference in losses when comparing different speeds. Therefore, it is more advantageous and economically viable to use the speed of 4.5 km•h −1 , which collects more in less time.

The blue mussel, Mytilus edulis, and the Mediterranean mussel, Mytilus galloprovincialis, occur widely over much of northern Europe, and wherever they are sympatric they hybridize. The hybrid zone is large, ranging from western France to the north of Scotland, and is spatially complex, containing a mixture of pure, hybrid and introgressed individuals. Results from an Irish study in 1981, using partially diagnostic allozyme markers, indicated that mussels on the Irish Sea coast were solely M. edulis, but on Atlantic wave-exposed shores, and to a much lesser extent on wave-protected shores, mussels comprised an interbreeding mixture of M. edulis and M. galloprovincialis. In this study mussels were analysed from 20 locations on Irish coasts, using the Me15/16 nuclear DNA marker. The results showed a high frequency of M. galloprovincialis (0.378 ± 0.198) and hybrid (0.429 ± 0.175) genotypes, and correspondingly low frequencies of the M. edulis genotype (0.194 ± 0.107) at both exposed an...
