Revocable Identity-Based Broadcast Proxy Re-encryption for Data Sharing in Clouds

Cloud computing has become prevalent due to its nature of massive storage and vast computing capabilities. Ensuring a secure data sharing is critical to cloud applications. Recently, a number of identity-based broadcast proxy re-encryption (IB-BPRE) schemes have been proposed to resolve the problem. However, the IB-BPRE requires a cloud user (Alice) who wants to share data with a bunch of other users (e.g. colleagues) to participate the group shared key renewal process because Alice's private key is a prerequisite for shared key generation. This, however, does not leverage the benefit of cloud computing and causes the inconvenience for cloud users. Therefore, a novel security notion named revocable identity-based broadcast proxy re-encryption (RIB-BPRE) is presented to address the issue of key revocation in this work. In a RIB-BPRE scheme, a proxy can revoke a set of delegates, designated by the delegator, from the re-encryption key. The performance evaluation reveals that the proposed scheme is efficient and practical.

KeyD: Secure Key-Deduplication with Identity-Based Broadcast Encryption

Deduplication, which can save storage cost by enabling us to store only one copy of identical data, becomes unprecedentedly significant with the dramatic increase in data stored in the cloud. For the purpose of ensuring data confidentiality, they are usually encrypted before outsourced. Traditional encryption will inevitably result in multiple different ciphertexts produced from the same plaintext by different users' secret keys, which hinders data deduplication. Convergent encryption makes deduplication possible since it naturally encrypts the same plaintexts into the same ciphertexts. One attendant problem is how to reliably and effectively manage a huge number of convergent keys. Several deduplication schemes have been proposed to deal with the convergent key management problem. However, they either need to introduce key management servers or require interaction between data owners. In this paper, we design a novel client-side deduplication protocol named KeyD without such an independent key management server by utilizing the identity-based broadcast encryption (IBBE) technique. Users only interact with the cloud service provider (CSP) during the process of data upload and download. Security analysis demonstrates that KeyD ensures data confidentiality and convergent key security, and well protects the ownership privacy simultaneously. A thorough and detailed performance comparison shows that our scheme makes a better tradeoff among the storage cost, communication and computation overhead. Dating with Scambots: Understanding the Ecosystem of Fraudulent Dating Applications

In this work, we are focusing on a new and yet uncovered way for malicious apps to gain profit. They claim to be dating apps. However, their sole purpose is to lure users into purchasing premium/VIP services to start conversations with other (likely fake female) accounts in the app. We call these apps as fraudulent dating apps. This paper performs a systematic study to understand the whole ecosystem of fraudulent dating apps. Specifically, we have proposed a three-phase method to detect them and subsequently comprehend their characteristics via analyzing the existing account profiles. Our observation reveals that most of the accounts are not managed by real persons, but by chatbots based on predefined conversation templates. We also analyze the business model of these apps and reveal that multiple parties are actually involved in the ecosystem, including producers who develop apps, publishers who publish apps to gain profit, and the distribution network that is responsible for distributing apps to end users. Finally, we analyze the impact of them to users (i.e., victims) and estimate the overall revenue. Our work is the first systematic study on fraudulent dating apps, and the results demonstrate the urge for a solution to protect users.

Overall, this research hopes to achieve a level of comparison which can further garner knowledge towards comparing JavaScript frameworks.

A Data Sharing Protocol to Minimize Security and Privacy Risks of Cloud Storage in Big Data Era

A cloud-based big data sharing system utilizes a storage facility from a cloud service provider to share data with legitimate users. In contrast to traditional solutions, cloud provider stores the shared data in the large data centers outside the trust domain of the data owner, which may trigger the problem of data confidentiality. This paper proposes a secret sharing group key management protocol (SSGK) to protect the communication process and shared data from unauthorized access. Different from the prior works, a group key is used to encrypt the shared data and a secret sharing scheme is used to distribute the group key in SSGK. The extensive security and performance analyses indicate that our protocol highly minimizes the security and privacy risks of sharing data in cloud storage and saves about 12% of storage space.

The last decades have seen a surge of interests in distributed computing thanks to advances in clustered computing and big data technology. Existing distributed algorithms typically assume all the data are already in one place, and divide the data and conquer on multiple machines. However, it is increasingly often that the data are located at a number of distributed sites, and one wishes to compute over all the data with low communication overhead. For spectral clustering, we propose a novel framework that enables its computation over such distributed data, with "minimal" communications while a major speedup in computation. The loss in accuracy is negligible compared to the non-distributed setting. Our approach allows local parallel computing at where the data are located, thus turns the distributed nature of the data into a blessing; the speedup is most substantial when the data are evenly distributed across sites. Experiments on synthetic and large UC Irvine datasets show almost no loss in accuracy with our approach while about 2x speedup under various settings with two distributed sites. As the transmitted data need not be in their original form, our framework readily addresses the privacy concern for data sharing in distributed computing.

Normalization of Duplicate Records from Multiple Sources

Data consolidation is a challenging issue in data integration. The usefulness of data increases when it is linked and fused with other data from numerous (Web) sources. The promise of Big Data hinges upon addressing several big data integration challenges, such as record linkage at scale, real-time data fusion, and integrating Deep Web. Although much work has been conducted on these problems, there is limited work on creating a uniform, standard record from a group of records corresponding to the same real-world entity. We refer to this task as record normalization. Such a record representation, coined normalized record, is important for both front-end and back-end applications. In this paper, we formalize the record normalization problem, present in-depth analysis of normalization granularity levels (e.g., record, field, and value-component) and of normalization forms (e.g., typical versus complete). We propose a comprehensive framework for computing the normalized record. The proposed framework includes a suit of record normalization methods, from naive ones, which use only the information gathered from records themselves, to complex strategies, which globally mine a group of duplicate records before selecting a value for an attribute of a normalized record. We conducted extensive empirical studies with all the proposed methods. We indicate the weaknesses and strengths of each of them and recommend the ones to be used in practice.

Enabling Authorized Encrypted Search for Multi-Authority Medical Databases

E-medical records are sensitive and should be stored in a medical database in encrypted form. However, simply encrypting these records will eliminate data utility and interoperability of the existing medical database system because encrypted records are no longer searchable. Moreover, multiple authorities could be involved in controlling and sharing the private medical records of clients. However, authorizing different clients to search and access records originating from multiple authorities in a secure and scalable manner is a nontrivial matter. To address the above issues, we propose an authorized searchable encryption scheme under a multi-authority setting. Specifically, our proposed scheme leverages the RSA function to enable each authority to limit the search capability of different clients based on clients' privileges. To improve scalability, we utilize multi-authority attribute-based encryption to allow the authorization process to be performed only once even over policies from multiple authorities. We conduct rigorous security and cost analysis, and perform experimental evaluations to demonstrate that the proposed scheme introduces moderate overhead to existing searchable encryption schemes.

AccountTrade: Accountability Against Dishonest Big Data Buyers and Sellers

In this paper, a set of accountable protocols denoted as AccountTrade is proposed for big data trading among dishonest consumers. For achieving secure the big data trading environment, AccountTrade achieves book-keeping ability and accountability against dishonest consumers throughout the trading (i.e., buying and selling) of datasets. We investigate the consumers' responsibilities in the dataset trading, then we design AccountTrade to achieve accountability against dishonest consumers that are likely to deviate from the responsibilities. Specifically, a uniqueness index is defined and proposed, which is a new rigorous measurement of the data uniqueness for this purpose. Furthermore, several accountable trading protocols are presented to enable data brokers to blame the misbehaving entities when misbehavior is detected. The accountability of AccountTrade is formally defined, proved, and evaluated by an automatic verification tool as well as extensive simulation with real-world datasets. Our evaluation shows that AccountTrade incurs at most 10KB storage overhead per file, and it is capable of 8-1000 concurrent data upload requests per server.

Attiq_Lone (2019) seems to be having a difficult time writing a sketch. He may find it worthwhile to draw a Petri Net diagram of his system and add the logic of his system as annotations to the diagram. Then write the sketch based on the Petri Net diagram and its annotations. It is the method I used to write the sketch for his system and the method I would use for all of my applications.

The content management system will make use of html, php and an SQL database to display, process and store the content.
