Historians of Russian literature know very well that Leonid Zurov have lived next to the family Bunin few decades. Many memoirists wrote about the life of first Russian Nobel prize winner. It would be natural for Zurov to add to the many memories his own. However, this did not happen although traces of his work on his memoirs preserved in the archive. Статья посвящена исследованию коренных особенностей бунинской поэтики -сближению с гибкой и емкой поэтической формой, полемической диалогичности по отношению к предыдущей литературной традиции. Обращение к рассказам, один из которых написан в первый год эмиграции, а второй -за месяц до окончания Второй мировой войны, позволяет проанализировать, как возникали характерные черты поэтики Бунина и как они совершенствовались и реализовались в поздней новеллистике писателя. Выявление литературных источников в структуре коротких рассказов о любви расширяет горизонты художественной и философской интерпретации бунинских шедевров, уточняет их жанровую природу, обогащает историко-литературный комментарий к ним.

Time and space have always been the central phenomena in the history of human thought. From the ancient times, philosophers have discussed -time‖ and -space‖ from different perspectives -in order to define the reality and essence of existence of time and space, and to explain the functions and meanings of these categories in human life. v The empirical part of the dissertation presents the study of possible influence of the basic philosophical conceptions of time and space, especially the circular sense of time and space which accounts for the coexistence of the past and present, on the following literary works: V. Nabokov's first novel Mary (1926) and his early short stories -A Nursery Tale (1930), The Circle (1936); G. Robakidze's first novel The Snake's Skin (1926); N. Berberova's first novel The Last and the First Ones (1930); I. Bunin's short story Night (1925). In fact, the coexistence of the present and past spatiotemporal levels in the fictional worlds of these literary narratives -the existence of the protagonists' past in their presenttakes place due to the representation of their recollections, thoughts, visions, and philosophical reflections in the stories. Such a metaphysical transference of the protagonists' past to their present spatiotemporal worlds creates forms (examples) of eternal recurrence in the émigré writers' fictions. Moreover, the cyclical time and space in the émigré literature also exists due to the authors' special narrative techniques which form the particular structures of their fictions. Actually, the main reason of such concepts of time and space, in the novelists' literary works, is influenced and determined by the authors' émigré experience.

The article analyzes three autobiographies, that were written to order by Bunin in 1921, 1934 and 1952 and that were printed at the beginning of the collections of stories and Collected works, published in emigration. There Bunin describes himself as a antirevolutionary emigrant and as an acknowledged and actively publishing writer in emigration. At the same time he thinks over those elements depending on the time and addresses, giving his personality a different touch.

Twenty selected and illustrated essays, written over a period of fifteen years, dealing with Russian and Western Literature and Spirituality, Christian theology, monasticism, prayer, holy foolishness and the Orthodox Church. About half previously published, others written specially for this volume.

The monograph 'Gallo-Rossica: From the History of Russian-French Literary
Connections (late 18th – early 20th centuries)' is devoted to a number of hitherto unstudied and inexhausted aspects of exchanges which took place in the interval between the appearance of the 'Letters of a Russian Traveler' by N. Karamzin and the rise of discussions in the Paris Studio Franco-Russe (1929–1931).
The book’s pivotal theme is self-identification of a writer, of a literary trend, and of national literature as a whole through reflections of the self in the Other and coming to know oneself through the External. This theme is developed on the basis of very specific historical and literary topics often concerned with the so-called ‘second-league’ authors.
How has an atheistic text from the French Revolution epoch influenced a
famous philosophical masterpiece by a Russian conservative poet? How did a Parisian translator of Polish origin ‘gallicize’ Tolstoy’s novel 'Resurrection' and why this occasion aroused the indignation of native French writers? How did a Russian symbolist and the ‘new-religious consciousness’ guru implement the program of conquering Paris literary market? How did a religious-philosophical critic’s acquaintance with a Catholic Mystery affect his conversion to radical Formalism? And why was this genre well-received in the early Soviet theater? How did a Petersburg ballet historian become a leading francophone literary critic? How and why did French communists try to appropriate a Russian anti-Soviet writer?
What exactly was pronounced about the dissimilarity of the Russian and French variants of Symbolism in Paris at the turn of the 1920s — 1930s? Finally, what pattern of literary contacts between the two countries was created by francophone writers born in the Russian empire?
The author tries to provide answers to these and other questions. Among heroes of the monograph there are Nikolay Karamzin, Sylvain Maréchal, Fyodor Tyutchev, Leo Tolstoy, Théodor de Wyzewa (T. Wyżewsky), Dmitry Merezhkovsky, Maurice Prozor, Paul Claudel, Boris Eichenbaum, André Levinson, Ivan Bunin, Maurice Donzel (Parijanine), André Fontainas, Nina Berberova, Stanislas Fumet, etc.

The paper introduces the concept and canon of the Russian émigré Künstlerroman within the extant theoretical frame distinguishing the genre of Bildungsroman (the coming-of-age novel) and its subgenre, the Künstlerroman (a novel about the maturation of a young artist). While after the revolution the Bildungsroman continued to evolve in Soviet literature, focusing mostly on the formation of the New Soviet Man, writers in exile reshaped the classical Bildung narrative into an aristocratic Künstlerroman. This paper interrogates the specific conditions and contexts that stimulated the development of Künstlerroman in the diaspora, outlines its genealogy and defines its distinctive conceptual and formal aspects.
The Künstlerromans under discussion are those by Boris Zaitsev, Ivan Bunin, Vladimir Nabokov and Aleksandr Kuprin, all of whom belonged to the gentry but reinvented themselves as "artists"; and also by the commoners Ivan Shmelev and Gaito Gazdanov. The canon's masterplot features a homo artistocraticus who is generously endowed with the author's life experience and aesthetic quest.
The émigré Künstlerroman can be interpreted as a farewell to the Russian aristocracy crushed by the Bolshevik coup and as a nostalgic record of the prerevolutionary order. In fact, it was meant to capture the birth of an artist from the trauma of the Russian gentry's demise and to claim that aristocratic writing and traditional values, banished from Soviet metropolia, were being preserved by the Russian diaspora.
In sociological terms, the Künstlerroman appears to be a test case for intricate navigation among a "transnational" triangle of influences. Evolving from the Russian aristocratic Bildungsroman under the impact of the modernist European Künstlerroman, the budding Russian émigré Künstlerroman distanced itself from Soviet Socialist-Realist coming-of-age novels. While the latter, written in a simplistically didactic manner, set the new futuristic species of homo sovieticus as a role model for the metropolitan readership, the Künstlerroman opposed to it its own exemplary protagonist: a homo aristocraticus et artisticus. Thus, it reflected the break-up of Russian literature into metropolitan and diasporic fields and met some of the challenges of European modernism.

The paper offers a close reading of "The Case of Cornet Elagin” (1925; published in 1926), which is so far lacking in Bunin scholarship.
"The Case" was written as a semi-documentary, semi-fictional account of the 1891 trial of Aleksandr Bartenev (in the story renamed Alexander Elagin), accused of murdering Maria Wisnowska (renamed Maria Sosnovskaia).  This paper is an attempt to distinguish between its fictional and non-fictional components by showing how "The Case" fuses real facts with various ready-made sub-plots taken from Russian and French literature. What is more, intertextual analysis of these fictional episodes reveals the implicit message of the novella.
Several months before his death Bunin inscribed the following enigmatic words on a copy of "The Case" published decades before: "This whole story is a very ugly story." The paper is an attempt to understand what is so “ugly” about this novella. The answer is sought by contextualizing "The Case" within Bunin’s poetic world and within the intellectual context of the Silver Age.  "The Case" emerges as the author’s masterful commentary on traditional and modern themes involving mimetic desire and post-Pushkinian “Cleopatromania.”  Bunin subjects the worship of a femme fatale, so pervasive in the Silver Age, to radical subversion.

Архив Шведской академии (Стокгольм) открывается по истечении пятидесяти лет хранения документов, среди которых – письма-номинации, экспертные обзоры и финальные протоколы заседаний Нобелевского комитета. На этих материалах 1901–1966 гг. с привлечением к исследованию шведской периодики и основана монография, открывающая неизвестные страницы русской литературы и ее рецепции на Западе.
Первая глава посвящена институту Нобелевской премии и насыщена информацией об экспертах Нобелевского комитета по славянским литературам. Главы со 2 по 14 посвящены отдельным писателям. Начав свою деятельность с отказа увенчать великого Льва Толстого, Шведская академия отметила престижной наградой лишь нескольких русских писателей. Первым стал И. Бунин, эмигрант и апатрид; затем разыгралась настоящая драма с трагическими коллизиями, отразившая столкновение двух систем и противопоставившая Б. Пастернака и М. Шолохова. Среди отвергнутых – гении и знаменитости (М. Горький, Н. Бердяев, В. Набоков), целая плеяда писателей русского зарубежья (К. Бальмонт, Д. Мережковский, И. Шмелев, М. Алданов, Б. Зайцев, П. Краснов) и несколько советских авторов (Л. Леонов, А. Ахматова, К. Паустовский). В главе 15 собрано несколько сюжетов, которые до полного открытия архива не могут считаться законченными. Нобелевская эпопея русских писателей – это история с открытым финалом. 
В монографии высвечено множество подводных течений, которыми были пронизаны и окололитературные отношения, и социально-политические контроверзы XX века, а сюжеты, выстроенные вокруг русских классиков прошедшего столетия и отразившиеся в нобелевском зеркале, обретают увлекательные черты интеллектуального детектива. Нобелевское зеркало притягательно и самой возможностью заглянуть за кулису: укрытые в архивах тайны, недоступные широкой публике и обретающие поэтому, через домыслы и слухи, черты мифологические и эзотерические, обращаются в процессе исследования в увлекательное экзотерическое знание, занимательное и доступное для массового читателя.

В статье проводится этико-философский анализ самооправдания как явления духовной жизни человека. В качестве материала для исследования избран рассказ И.А. Бунина «Петлистые уши». Через изучение сложной и противоречивой истории названия рассказа, а также посредством подробного анализа монолога главного героя удается показать возможные пути его самооправдания. При описании нравственной позиции героя оказывается важным обращение к его полемике с идейным содержанием романа Ф.М. Достоевского «Преступление и наказание».

The article is devoted to the ethical and philosophical analysis of self-justification as a phenomenon in the spiritual life of a human. The material for the study includes a story by I.A. Bunin, Loop Ears. The ways of self-justification of the main character are shown through the study of complex and contradictory history of the story title, a well as a detailed analysis of main character's monologue. His disagreement with the message of Crime and Punishment, a novel by F.M. Dostoevsky, is of importance for expressing his moral position.

Аннотация: В современной науке приоритетное внимание уделяется правилам создания ифункционирования литературного текста как коммуникативного феномена. В настоящей статье предпринимается попытка анализа языка власти и принуждения в тексте повести Бунина «Суходол», а также рассматриваются коммуникативные аспекты формирования субъектности и репрезентации крестьянского сознания. Ключевые слова: И.А. Бунин, Суходол, коммуникация, принуждение, власть. Abstract: In modern science apriority is given to the rules of creation and functioning of a literary text as a communicative phenomenon. This article attempts to analyze the language of power and coercion in Ivan Bunin's short novel "Dry Valley" ("Sukhodol"), as well as the communicative aspects of formation of subjectivity and representation of peasant consciousness. Повесть, датированная 1911 годом, относится к циклу «крестьянских» рассказов Бунина, которые в большом количестве были написаны автором на протяжении 1910-х гг. Один из главных социальных вопросов предыдущего поколения, который интересует Бунина,-вопрос об отношениях формально независимых, но реально зависимых крестьян к помещику, вопрос о властной иерархии в пореформенную эпоху, о судьбе дворянской усадьбы как очага культуры. Исследование языка принуждения позволяет рассматривать имплицитные представления автора о социальной реальности. Принуждение, будучи обязательным атрибутом домодерной власти, является способом воздействия на поведение человека с целью подчинения его воле принуждающего. Bunin the Editor: What Sould be Seen as the Critical Text of Leonid Zurov's Short Novel Kadet?
The Leeds Russian Archive in the University of Leeds holds an intriguing item: a copy of the first edition of Leonid Zurov's povest' (short novel) Kadet (1928), partially edited by the writer's old friend Ivan Bunin. How did Bunun edit the text? What did he alter and why? And what should be seen as the final - the critical - text of the povest'? The article answers these questions and also addresses the question of final authorial intent.

В статье проводится сравнительный анализ повести И.С. Тургенева «Ася» и рассказа И.А. Бунина «Руся». Выявленные переклички (основная тема утраченной любви и родины, рамочная композиция, сходство заглавий, внешности героинь, лирического настроения, финальных пассажей и др.) дают основания говорить о сознательном «переписывании» Буниным классического произведения русского реализма XIX в. Тургеневский подтекст позволяет точнее выявить основную идею рассказа «Руся»: трагическая невоплотимость счастливой любви и повторяемость человеческих судеб.

İnsanın varlığını sorgulamaya başlamasıyla beraber ortaya çıkan ölüm (yok oluş) kavramı edebiyat da dâhil olmak üzere; din, felsefe, sosyoloji, psikoloji, tıp gibi birçok alanda araştırmacıların ilgi konusu olmuştur. Bilinmeyene karşı merak, bu konuda daha fazla düşünmeye ve araştırmaya sevk etmiştir. Hem Türk, hem de dünya edebiyatında bu konu şairlerin ve yazarların eserlerinde bazen ana tema, bazen de yardımcı tema olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. 1933’te Arsenyev’in Yaşamı adlı eseriyle Nobel Edebiyat Ödülü’nü alan ilk Rus yazar İvan Alekseyeviç Bunin’in en sevdiği öğeler; aşk ve ölümdür. Bunin’nin eserlerinde farklı bir anlama bürünen aşk, yerini ya ölüme ya da sıradanlığa bırakır. Çalışmamızda, eserde kendini çok fazla hissettiren ölüm teması; ölüm korkusu, yakınlarının kaybından duyulan acı ve aşk acısı olmak üzere üç alt başlığa ayrılarak detaylı bir şekilde incelenmektedir.

A vida e a obra de Ivan Búnin encarnam um dos dilemas essenciais da emigração russa: a obstinação em salvaguardar a herança e a unidade cultural russas, aliada, porém, a um processo contínuo e irreversível de integração progressiva e dinâmica em outro contexto artístico e cultural. Uma análise detida de seus textos narrativos nos encaminha, para além dos cânones da “grande” literatura russa do século XIX, a uma textualidade aberta a experimentações da modernidade, sempre a preservar uma espécie de russidade essencial.

The paper outlines a history of the publishing house “Russkie zapiski” (“Russian annals”) (Shanghai; Paris, 1937–1939). It delineates the circumstances of the publication of all editions generated by the publisher (8 books and 21 issues of the review “Russkie zapiski”). It gives a recapitulation of the biography of M.N. Pavlovsky and a characteristic of his activities as a publisher. An appendix contains M.N. Pavlovsky’s correspondence with V.V. Rudnev and M.A. Aldanov.
В статье воссоздана история издательства «Русские записки» (Шанхай; Париж, 1937–1939). Представлены обстоятельства выхода в свет его изданий (8 книг и 21 номер журнала «Русские записки»). Изложены основные вехи биографии М.Н. Павловского, а также особенности его издательской деятельности. В приложении опубликована переписка М.Н. Павловского с В.В. Рудневым и М.А. Алдановым.

The article is devoted to the sources for the study of the literary-artistic digest Zemlya [Ground] (Moscow: Moscow Publishing
House, 1908–1917): archival materials, bibliographic references, memoirs, epistolary collections, literary reviews, research works.
The aim of identifying the reasons behind the negative attitude developed towards this digest is set. Soviet historiography
(O.D. Golubeva’s, A.A. Tarasova’s works) looked upon the publishing of the digest Zemlya as a purely commercial venture of “literary shopkeepers”. This kind of researchers’ attitude was mostly promoted due to the memoirs of N.S. Klyostov (Angarsky) who had
been in charge of Moscow Publishing House in 1907–1909. But epistolary evidence of the editor of the first two issues of Zemlya
I.A. Bunin and the staff (B.K. Zaitsev, L.N. Andreev, F. Sologub and others) should be taken into consideration as well. In references
and histories of literature, there is practically no factual information on G.A. Blumenberg and G.G. Blumenberg, the owners of Moscow Publishing House, as well as on D.M. Rebrik, the procurist (authorized representative) of the Blumenberg Trading House, who
was personally engaged in the composition of Zemlya issues. In separate works (A.B. Dubovikov, I. Gazer, E.A. Dyakova,
L.R. Berdysheva) there are some discrepancies concerning the digest’s content, publishing dates, etc. With the purpose of historical
reconstruction of the relationships within the editorial board, the archival materials from the funds of the Russian State Archive of
Literature and Arts (RGALI), Moscow, have been studied. The digest’s main authors (M.P. Artsybashev, A.I. Kuprin, F. Sologub,
V.K. Vinnichenko, E.N. Chirikov, N.A. Krasheninnikov) were criticized, too. The writers were perceived as bourgeois representatives of the “literary collapse” propagating depravity and godlessness. However, journal and newspaper reviewers at the beginning of
the 20th century (Z.N. Gippius, M.O. Gershenzon, M. Kuzmin, E. Koltonovskaya, D.V. Filosofov and others) thought that the digest
Zemlya managed to gather the most popular names of modern Russian literature. Artsybashev’s image can be called central in the
digest Zemlya. The writer’s notoriety was projected to the image of the whole digest and reflected in Soviet literature scholars’ critical works. However, although starting from the 1990s the attitude of the researchers (T.F. Prokopov, M.N. Nikolaev, L.R. Berdysheva, O.Yu. Malkina, I.V. Suvorova, A.N. Dolgenko, A.I. Garaev) towards Artsybashev’s personality and works underwent a 180-
degree turn, the unjustified representation of Moscow Publishing House’s digests as a second-class manifestation of popular literature was not overcome yet. The digest Zemlya occupied a leading position in the literary marketplace for nine years. They are still of
undeniable historical and literary interest and of high artistic value, and they deserve greater attention of researchers.

A magazine article about the life and works of a Russian writer Ivan Bunin who received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1933. Until our days, Ivan Bunin is considered to be one of the greatest masters of the Russian language. Bunin's impressionist perspective combined with modern and deeply personalised vision of life and its phenomena have made the author one of the most read and quoted in the Russian literature.

В статье впервые дан обзор пяти инскриптов В.Я. Брюсова из фондов Государственной публичной исторической библиотеки. Четыре автографа (А.М. Добролюбову, И.А. Бунину, С.П. Бартеневу, В.С. Терьяну) ранее не публиковались. Представленные надписи содержательны и нетипичны для обыкновенно сдержанного В.Я. Брюсова: они уточняют детали биографии поэта, дают представление о его взаимоотношениях с адресатами инскриптов и др. В целом выявленные автографы являются ценным источником для реконструкции отдельных фрагментов истории русской литературы начала ХХ в.

The article provides an overview of five inscriptions of V.Ya. Bryusov from the State Public Library for History collection. Four autographs (addressed to A.M. Dobrolyubov, I.A. Bunin, S.P. Bartenev, V.S. Teryan) were not published before. The inscriptions are informative and not typical for V.Ya. Bryusov, they clarify the details of the poet’s biography, give an idea of his relationships with the addressees, etc. In general, the autographs are a valuable source for the reconstruction of certain fragments of the history of Russian literature of the early 20th century.

Conscious and subconscious overcoming, destroying and transforming of space, time and forms

The comparative analysis of two works ( a short story written by I.Bunin "Noch" which is full of connotations connected with a life experience, knowledge and philosophical attitude to life of its author and the novel of a modern Russian writer D. Lipskerov ("Poslednij son razuma") is presented in the article.
