ABSTRACT Se per molto tempo il suo apporto è stato trascurato dagli antichisti e dagli storici dell&#39;arte, Aby Warburg è considerato oggi come colui che ha posto le premesse per un&#39;antropologia dell&#39;immagine, disciplina parallela alla storia dell&#39;arte, che si occupa di delineare una storia più ampia dell&#39;immagine come prodotto &quot; antropologico &quot; e di tracciarne una vera e propria storia dello sguardo. Warburg ha rivoluzionato il quadro tradizionale di queste discipline e il rapporto, nello studio dell&#39;immagine, fra l&#39;apporto storico artistico e quello antropologico. La rilessione su alcuni aspetti centrali della sua ricerca è afrontata da A. Pinotti e A. Ducci, mentre il rapporto con l&#39;antico è approfondito da B. Cestelli Guidi sul progetto di allestimento della Gipsoteca nella Kunsthalle di Amburgo, che fa riferimento a materiali inediti. G. Chiarini tratta il tema di Orfeo, centrale nel Bilderatlas. L&#39;interesse per la circolazione delle immagini fra il Nord e il Sud dell&#39;Europa e fra Oriente e Occidente e il rapporto fra i committenti e l&#39;opera d&#39;arte sono temi afrontati da E. The rebirth of realistic representation in Italy around 1300 led to the materialization of a pictorial language, which dominated Western art until 1900, and it dominates global visual culture even today. Paralleling the development of... more

The rebirth of realistic representation in Italy around 1300 led to the materialization of a pictorial language, which dominated Western art until 1900, and it dominates global visual culture even today. Paralleling the development of mimesis, self-reflexive pictorial tendencies emerged as well. Images-within-images, visual commentaries of representations by representations, were essential to this trend. They facilitated the development of a critical pictorial attitude towards representation. This book offers the first comprehensive study of Italian meta-painting in the age of Giotto and sheds new light on the early modern and modern history of the phenomenon. By combining visual hermeneutics and iconography, it traces reflexivity in Italian mural and panel painting at the dawn of the Renaissance, and presents novel interpretations of several key works of Giotto di Bondone and the Lorenzetti brothers. The potential influence of the contemporary religious and social context on the program design is also examined situating the visual innovations within a broader historical horizon. The analysis of pictorial illusionism and reality effect together with the liturgical, narrative and typological role of images-within-images makes this work a pioneering contribution to visual studies and premodern Italian culture.

Péter Bokody’s book goes back to where it all began: to Italian Trecento painting which marks the beginnings of the realistic mode. Realism means, among many other things, that one medium can embed another medium. Una de las reflexiones derivadas de este trabajo, en lo que se refiere al tema general, es que la expresión de la promesa como conflicto irresoluble para los seres humanos, siempre está ligada a los actos, es decir, tiene una dimensión performativa en la que están implicados los actos lingüísticos y corporales. Trabajar con la promesa entonces implica considerar esta dimensión como una de las más sustanciales para su estudio ya que, más allá de los aspectos simbólicos o filosóficos, el conflicto se manifiesta siempre de manera concreta como un problema entre lo dicho y lo hecho. En este sentido el trabajo de
Shoshana Felman ha sido fundamental para la comprensión del plano performativo y simbólico del personaje de don Giovanni, sin embargo, considero que abrir el espectro al resto de las relaciones entre los otros personajes, así como a las nuevas configuraciones que la performatividad de la promesa adquiere en las obras de Rodríguez, Carbonell y Saura, nos ha permitido explorar una dimensión más poliédrica del tema. Por otro lado, quisiera destacar la importancia sustancial que ha tenido para la realización de esta tesis las aportaciones obtenidas de la perspectiva de estudio de la intermedialidad. Considero que seguir los planteamientos de dicha corriente de estudios, es decir, haber trabajado bajo una lógica de red en la que se atienden los distintos flujos entre medios, impulsó este trabajo en direcciones en las que, más allá de la aplicación útil de algunos términos propios de este ámbito de estudios, fue posible, a partir de la flexibilidad y libertad que otorga este marco, transitar por caminos inesperados para este trabajo; por ejemplo dar el paso a la construcción de las constelaciones interactivas para ofrecer una lectura más completa del trabajo. Considero que el enfoque de la intermedialidad, del que aún se han realizado pocos estudios en el ámbito académico mexicano, posee un potencial enorme para el desarrollo de las investigaciones en las disciplinas de las humanidades y las
artes que valdría la pena impulsar y hacer crecer. Espero que, concretamente en el campo de las investigaciones en Historia del Arte, este trabajo aporte algunas semillas para el desarrollo de otras investigaciones vinculadas a este enfoque. Considero que esta tesis es
sólo un germen que muestra una de las formas posibles de trabajar desde este enfoque, aún con mucho más por desarrollar en lo que la intermedialidad pudiera ofrecer para el estudio de otras manifestaciones artísticas. Las tres obras que se han abordado en esta tesis nos han
permitido explorar algunas formas de trabajar con el enfoque intermedial, concretamente en el cine y el teatro, sin embargo pienso que, más allá del potencial que esta perspectiva tiene para las artes escénicas, performativas o cinematográficas, la natural afinidad que encuentro con los postulados de la Bildwissenschaft, que ha cobrado fuerza en los estudios de la imagen en la actualidad en el ámbito académico, podría ser un punto de partida valioso para realizar otras investigaciones.

In 2014 the Benedictine Archabbey of Pannonhalma hosts two intertwined exhibitions. Since March 2014 the exhibition "Icons and Relics: Veneration of Images between East and West" (March 21 – November 11, 2014) can be visited in the in the “old” exhibition hall of the monastery (inaugurated in 2001). In July 2014 opens the inaugural exhibition "Image and Christianity: Visual Media in the Middle Ages" (July 10 – September 30, 2014) in the new Abbey Manor Visitor Center. The aim of the exhibitions is to show to the viewer the various forms and media of image-worship in medieval Christianity. The two exhibitions are accompanied by a joint bilingual (Hungarian-English) catalog entitled Image and Christianity: Visual Media in the Middle Ages, which contains the reproductions and descriptions of the exhibited works and studies discussing the questions of mosaic technique, book illumination and the cult of relics.
