Everyday Peace

Considering  the  concept  of  Everyday  Peace,  the  article  aims  to  analyze  the  organization  and performance of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Israel, in order to verify how the so-called Landmarks, Masonic  constitutive  principles,  have  allowed  cooperation  and  collaboration  between  Jews  and Arabs  within  the  Israeli  Freemasonry  for  the  past  twenty  years.  In  addition,  the  article  seeks  to discuss how everyday peace can be perceived within a classical-contemporary organization such as Freemasonry  and  how  experiences  from  that  context  are  likely  to  be  reproduced  in  other circumstances.  The  research  allows  to  identify  a  relationship  between  the  typology  of  everyday peace  activities  with  the  Masonic  Landmarks  and,  in  turn,  the  Landmarks  can  be  perceived  as references of everyday peace activities between Jews and Arabs.

This paper explores how dialogue was introduced by the author through a model of praxis called 'Young People Peace and Change.' It was developed through community-based research, and further supported by evidence from school-based youth work, with young people in two cities in England. The paper focuses on the role of dialogue as part of Photovoice, linked to the duality of our praxis to provoke consciousness and action. It is an exciting and innovative theory-driven approach that actively seeks to help young people identify, understand and transform pressing issues and challenges of peace in their everyday lives. The work emerges from the belief that part of the solution to young people and violence is embedded in their common concerns and aspirations for peace, which can be elicited by bringing them safely into dialogue. Furthermore, the project seeks to cultivate real change by helping young people to 'speak' and self-advocate through a range of methodologies including photography, photo-elicitation and public engagement, to inform youth serving systems. 'Young People Peace and Change' has been awarded and recognised for successfully engaging a significantly vulnerable community of young people (including those at risk of violence). It has great potential for replicability and wider implications for practitioners, students, policy makers and research.

Este capítulo aborda os Laboratórios de Paz na Colômbia,
iniciativas de construção de paz desde a base desenvolvidas por
organizações não governamentais em diversas regiões periféricas do
país. Analisa um tipo de construção de paz que as visões dominantes
e tradicionais sobre a paz e a resolução de conflitos tendem a
ignorar e subvalorizar – a construção de paz a partir da sociedade
civil em comunidades locais. Procura desenvolver uma perspetiva
crítica sobre as abordagens realistas de gestão de conflitos e enfatizar
em que medida, em processos sociais locais como os desenvolvidos
pelos Laboratórios de Paz, emergem diferentes conceções de paz e
a sua construção. Sugere-se que estas seguem uma lógica distinta,
mais social que política ou militar, e que se manifesta a nível micro.
