Erken Rönesans döneminden itibaren, İtalyan şehir devletlerinde zengin ve nüfuzlu aileler arasında siyasi güç rekabetleri eksik olmamıştır. Floransa’nın en nüfuzlu ve zengin ailelerinden olan Strozziler, şehrin en güçlü ailesi Medicilerle siyasi rekabet içerisinde oldukları için şehirden sürülmüşlerdir. Çocukluğu sürgün yıllarında geçen Filippo Strozzi, nihayet büyük bir ticari başarı ve siyasi güce ulaşarak Floransa’ya geri dönmeyi başarmıştır.

Memleketinde yeni bir hayata başlayan Filippo, o zamanki geleneğe göre aristokrat aileler, güçlerini ve büyüklüklerini göstermek için görkemli yapılar inşa ettirdikleri için bir aile sarayı yaptırmaya karar vermiştir. Gösterişli yapıların inşasına başlanmadan önce, çizilen projeye ilaveten yapının gelecekteki görünüşü hakkında somut bir fikir edinmek için ahşap modeller de hazırlatılmıştır. Bu çalışma, Filippo Strozzi tarafından yaptırılan aile sarayının ahşap modelinin yapım süreci, yapılma amacı ve önemli mimarı özelliklerini inceleyecektir.

''Ateşle İmtihan'', Assisili Francesco'nun hayatını anlatan Orta Çağ resimlerinde en çok tercih edilen temalardan biridir. Sahne, Aziz Francesco'nun 1219'da, V. Haçlı Seferi sırasında Dimyat'a yaptığı yolculuk sonucu Mısır sultanı Kamil bin Adil'le karşılaşmasını betimler. Tarihi kayıtlara bakılacak olursa Francesco Dimyat'a vardığı sırada, sultan Hıristiyanlara barış antlaşması teklif etmiştir, fakat Haçlıların lideri Kardinal Pelagius pazarlık yapmayı reddetmiştir. Azizin biyografisi üzerinde çalışmış çağdaş yazarlara göre kardinal -muhtemelen Müslümanların Francesco'yu barış elçisi olarak görmelerinden endişelendiği için- azizin düşman kampına geçme isteğini gönülsüzce kabul etmiştir. Sultan pazarlık ihtimalini kafasında tarttığından Francesco'yla görüşmüş, ama tartışma bir sonuca bağlanmayınca değerli hediyeler sunmuştur.
Francesco'nun ilk biyografisini yazan Birader Tommaso Celano bu olayı aktarırken azizin sultana verdiği vaazı vurgulamıştır. Buna paralel olarak Floransa, Santa Croce'de yer alan Bardi Paneli'ndeki ''Sultana Vaaz'' sahnesinde Fransisken misyon hareketine dikkat çekilmiştir. Tarikatın yedinci lideri Bonaventura ise azizin biyografisini dilenci tarikatlar arasındaki rekabetin kızıştığı bir dönemde yazdığı için Francesco'nun Dominiken tarikatının kurucusu Aziz Dominic'in yanında sönük kalmasını istememiş ve ona bir Ateşle İmtihan mucizesi atfetmiştir. Giotto'nun bu olayı görselleştirmesiyle ''Ateşle İmtihan'' sahnesi doğmuştur. Aziz Francesco'yla ilgili popüler efsanelerin derlendiği Fioretti'de yer alan aynı hikaye Bonaventura'nın azizin misyonunun aslında başarılı olduğuna dair imasını bir adım öteye taşıyarak açıkça ortaya koymuştur. Bu nedenle Gozzoli'nin Montefalco'daki San Francesco Kilisesi'nde yer alan, Fioretti'yi temel almış freskosunda aziz sönmeye yüz tutmuş bir ateşten geçmektedir. Böylece tarikatın üç farklı döneminde, farklı ihtiyaçlara karşılık gelmesi için yazılmış bu üç hagiografik metinden bir Ateşle İmtihan sahnesi doğmuş ve sanatçılar tarafından farklı mesajlar iletecek şekilde yorumlanmıştır.

"Trial by Fire" is one of the most popular themes in medieval paintings depicting the life of Francis of Assisi. The scene portrays Saint Francis's encounter with al-Kâmil, the Sultan of Egypt, during his journey to Damietta in 1219, which took place during the Fifth Crusade. Although medieval hagiographies claim that Francis went to the East to become a martyr and/or to convert the sultan to Christianity, there is no evidence of the real reason for his journey. However, historical records indicate that when Francis arrived in Damietta, the sultan offered a peace treaty to the Christians, but the Crusaders' leader, Cardinal Pelagius, refused to negotiate. According to contemporary writers who have studied the saint's biography, the cardinal reluctantly allowed Francis to enter the enemy camp, possibly because he was worried that the Muslims would see Francis as an ambassador of peace. These same writers suggest that the sultan met with Francis considering the possibility of negotiation, but when the discussion didn't come up with a result, he offered the saint his daily meal and valuable gifts.
In the early period of the order, the Franciscans were representatives of the Church. Therefore, Brother Thomas of Celano, who wrote the first biography of Francis, emphasized the saint's sermon to the sultan when recounting this event in his book. Similarly, the "Sermon to the Sultan" scene on the Bardi Panel in Santa Croce, Florence, highlights the Franciscan missionary movement. Since Bonaventure, the seventh leader of the order, wrote the saint's biography during a period of heightened rivalry among mendicant orders, he did not want Francis to be overshadowed by Saint Dominic, the founder of the Dominican order, and attributed a Trial by Fire miracle to him. Giotto's visualization of this event gave birth to the "Trial by Fire" scene. In the same story found in the Fioretti, which compiles popular legends about Saint Francis, the sultan converts to Christianity, and the book takes Bonaventure's implication that the saint's mission was successful one step further by making it explicit. Thus, in Gozzoli's fresco in the Church of San Francesco in Montefalco, based on the Fioretti, the saint is depicted passing through a dying fire. As a result, from these three hagiographic texts written to meet different needs during three different periods of the order, a Trial by Fire scene emerged and was interpreted by artists to convey different messages.

Magas szintű tárgyi kultúra, mesterségbeli tudás olyan szerencsés esetben jön létre, amikor a szépérzék tökéletes anyag-és technikai ismeretekkel párosul, ha az esztétikum és praktikum együtt jelenik meg, vagyis a generációkon keresztül hagyományozódott tudásegyüttes tökéletes anyagismeretben, célszerű formaválasztásban és megfelelően alkalmazott díszítésben testesül meg, a hasznos és a szép harmóniát alkot. A jobbágyfelszabadítás utáni gazdasági fellendülés után érezhetően nőtt a díszített eszközök mennyisége. A népi építészetben is ez a korszak hozta meg a változást. A 19. század második felében, méginkább a századforduló tájékán jelentek meg a házakon is a díszítmények, így a homlokzatokon a vakolatdíszek, az oromzaton, füstlyukakon lévő fűrészelt díszek, a díszes tornácok. Ekkortól terjedtek el széles körben a fából épített kerítések, kapufélfák, a gazdagon díszített vásznak, szőttesek. A hétköznapokban használt tárgyakat is ellátták mértéktartó díszítményekkel, az ajándékba, ünnepi alkalmakra készítettek pedig gazdagabb díszítményt kaptak. A díszítőelemek elsősorban a külvilág számára szóltak, jelezve lakóik, használóik társadalmi rangját, vagyoni helyzetét. A motívumok eredetileg nem pusztán esztétikai szerepet betöltő díszítmények voltak, hanem jelentéssel bíró jelképek, jelek. Az emberi élet nagy eseményeihez, fordulópontjaihoz, jeles napokhoz, a gazdálkodás vegetációs időszakaihoz (termékenység) kötődő jelképek jelentése ma már nem egyértelmű, kevesen tudják olvasni. Egy-egy különös nevű to;asmoüvum szőttesminta elnevezése, utalhat az eredeti jelképi jelentésre. Érdekes játék lehet mindenki számára egy-egy motívum, jel megfejtése, hogy miért pont azt választotta a készítő egy adott eszköz, textll, ajándék stb. díszítményeként. Jó lenne e gazdag motívumkincset átmenteni a jelennek, a jövőnek, s a díszítmények helyi változatai újra felkerülnének használati eszközeinkre, textiljeinkre, új és felújításra kerülő épületeinkre. Ehhez szántuk segítségként a katalógusba gyűjtött motívumokat. Elsősorban az esztétikai szempontok és a gyakorlati alkalmazhatóság szempontjai szerint válogattuk a motívumokat, megmutatva a legrégibb és a legszebb példákat egy-egy településről. Nem törekedtünk teljes motívumkataszterre, részben mivel az anyag gazdagsága ezt meg sem engedi, részben mivel a kutatás időben alig másfél esztendőt vett igénybe. Ez alatt az idő alatt a vizsgált tájegység ifjúságát is bevontuk az előkészítő munkába, 2003 nyarán kistájanként motívumgyűjtő táborokat szerveztünk. Részben ennek is tudható be, hogy nem minden település anyaga szerepel azonos súllyal a katalógusban, hiszen a gyűjtőtábor ideje kevés volt a szórt fekvésű települések részletesebb kutatására. Ugyanakkor igyekeztünk minden publikációban elérhető anyagot utalással együtt bemutatni, s minden településről néhány jellemző motívumhordozót fölvonultatni. E most közreadott munkánk tehát kezdete lehet egy nagyobb területet felölelő gyűjtésnek, így más tájegységeken is kezdődhet hasonló gyűjtő, publikációs munka. A gyűjtés során olyan motívumhordozókat dolgoztunk föl, melyek helyben készültek. Igy nem szerepelnek a gyűjteményben többek között gömöri kerámiák, hiszen egy]k faluban sem volt fazekasközpont; vagy nem találunk benne a Tornában oly jellemző öntöttvas útszéli és sírkereszteket, hiszen azok leginkább felvidéki öntödékben készültek. Ugyanakkor kivételt tettünk a gömöri festőasztalosság templomi mennyezeteivel, hiszen azok bár idegen mesterek munkái, mégis helyben készültek, s átöröklődtek a faluközösség más motívumhordozóiba. Kivételt tettünk továbbá a felvidéki Gömörben készített, gazdagon díszített ácsolt ládák (szuszékok) bemutatásával is, mert ezek a ládák sok háztartásban évszázadokon keresztül fontos bútordarabként szolgáltak, archaikus motívumvariánsaik más technikával, akár más anyagokon ma is jól felhasználhatók. Bízunk benne, hogy mind térségünk lakóinak, mind a téma iránt érdeklődőknek segítségére leszünk e gazdag örökség megismerésében, továbbéltetésében, s elősegítjük a tiszta forrásból merítést, s sokaknak ösztönzést adunk a gyűjtőmunka folytatásához. Gömörszőlős, 2004. február a szerzők E egyszerűen át is másolhatók, így több faluban előfordul azonos motívum. Készítőik nem tanult iparosok voltak, hanem a falvakban élő, a fa megmunkálásához értő parasztemberek, akik az asztalos és ácsmunkákban egyaránt otthonosan mozogtak. Többük vállalt munkát a környék ácsmestereinél, molnárainál, ahol alkalmuk volt a famegmunkálás fogásait ellesni, mintakincsüket x [Ű x alaposan megismerni, átvenni. A falusi ezermesterek is összeállították a saját mintagyűjteményüket, amit vagy maguk terveztek, vagy átvett mintákat alakítottak át a saját elgondolásuk vagy a megrendelő ízlése szerint. munkaeszközöket is, mint a /jérom, a kaszanyéj a gereblyenyél, a szekerek és szánok egy-egy fő elemét. A motívumok között találtunk spirálisan örvénylő vonalakat, indákat, növényi elemeket, valamint egy guzsalytalpon szépen egyszerűsített, vonalasan vésett női alakot. 3. Kovács-és lakatosmunkák A használati eszközök közül a kovács-és lakatosmunkák leginkább épületek, munkaeszközök kiegészítőiként jelentkeznek. Jellemzően mesterek készítették őket, hiszen egy parasztgazdaságban ezek készítéséhez sem eszközt, sem jártasságot nem találunk. Ritkábban előfordulnak az ún. cigánykovácszzunkák 1s, melyeket házaló cigányoktól vásároltak, legtöbbször edénytartók, ruhaakasztó fogasok. Minden faluban akadt uradalmi vagy falusi kovácsmester, lakatosmester, aki a szekérvasalásokat, a Kapubántokat, ajtóvasalásokat, zárakat készítette. From the Safawid era (907-1145 H./1502-1732 A.D.) and with the rise of painter's status in society, a major transition in mode of Persian painting had appeared. It was the technical orientation to display portraits of princes, nobles and artists. The historical origins of this technique stemmed from the European Renaissance. The purpose of this paper is to study the technique of portraits that display painters in the Safavid painting and the purpose of making them. The findings of this study show that there were two artistic directions towards an individualization of personalities: The first was Bihzad's attempt, second was the representation of beautiful young men in courtly costumes, both were presented in the late Safavid painting.

The movement of romanticism in art (18th-19th c) is briefly reviewed. This artistic movement institutionalized freedom of personal expression of the artist and presented various art styles, which were rooted mainly in topics of the past. One of the manifestations of the romantic spirit was Neoclassicism which was based on copies of works of Greek and Roman antiquities. Romantic painters, musicians and architects have left as heritage an amazing wealth of art works.

This unique dressing mirror, with its ‘lacquered’ wooden frame, links Iran and Europe, East and West. The mirror is European, probably made in Venice, where the production of tin amalgam mirrors was a well-kept secret. The wooden frame, masterfully painted in brightly coloured shellac highlighted in gold, was made in Safavid Iran during the later years of Shah ‘Abbas’s I reign (r. 1587-1629). The painted decoration, in the style of contemporary courtly manuscripts and luxurious ‘lacquer’ book bindings, consists of episodes of the well-known ‘Khamsa’ by Nizami - one of the absolute classics of Persian literature and a favourite of the Safavids. Among the characters, two male and female figures are dressed in European, likely Portuguese attire. Made in Isfahan, this rare object mirrors the cosmopolitanism of Safavid society and a growing interest in European commodities and aesthetics at the Iranian court

Her eser, izleyicisiyle estetik ya da düşünsel olarak iletişime geçmek ister ve bunu da çoğu zaman sembollerin gücünden faydalanarak yapar. Bununla beraber sanat eserlerini anlama ve anlamlandırma süreci, o eserde yer alan olgu ve olayların anlam tabakalarının doğru yorumlanmasıyla ve tasvirlerdeki görüngülerin ardına gizlenen fikirler, kavramlar, duygular ve eylemlerin açığa çıkarılmasıyla gerçekleşir. XV. ve XX. yüzyıllar arasında Avrupa resminde nar imgesinin, ikonografik bir gösterge olarak bağlamı içinde değerlendirilmesi ve kadın ile alegorik ilişkilerinin ortaya çıkarılması bu araştırmanın temel amacını oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma sonunda Batı resmi temelinde narla kadın arasındaki analojik ilişkilerin Antik Çağ'a dayandığı, Hristiyanlıkta kültürel ve inançsal faktörlerin etkisiyle bu bağlantının Hz.Meryem ve Çocuk İsa tasvirleri üzerinden alegorik bir düzleme taşındığı; narın kutsal doğum, kutsal kan, enkarnasyon, ölüm, ölümsüzlük ve diriliş gibi kavramlarla ilgili olduğu anlaşılmıştır.

Quatre peintures sont données ici à Jean-Baptiste (cat. 52, 56, 80, 93) et deux le sont explicitement à l'« atelier » de Philippe de c hampaigne (cat. 19, 73) mais d'autres reviennent sans doute à ses collaborateurs (cat. 73), comme les quatre grands tableaux provenant du couvent des carmélites du faubourg Saint-Jacques et aujourd'hui au Val-de-Grâce, dont deux figuraient dans l'exposition (cat. 7, 8), qui doivent correspondre à ceux qu'« il fit executer par les peintres qui étoient sous lui », selon Félibien.

İlk çiftin yaratılışı, cennetteki durumları ve yılanla olan hikâyesi Kutsal Kitaplarda anlatılmış ve insanoğlunun geçmişine ışık tutmuştur. Dünyadaki yerimiz, neden burada olduğumuz, ilk insanın durumu, soyumuzun nasıl geldiği ve Tanrıyla münasebetimiz insanın hep ilgisini çekmiştir. Araştırma, insanoğlunun bu en önemli durumunu modern resim sanatçılarının eserlerine yansıtma biçimini analiz etmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu araştırmada Cennet Bahçelerindeki Adem ve Havva'nın modern resim sanatındaki sanatçıların eserlerine nasıl yansıdığı ve nasıl yorumladığı incelenmiştir. Araştırmada betimsel araştırma modeli benimsenmiş, çeşitli kitap, dergi, makale, bildiri vb görsel ve yazınsal kaynaklardan faydalanılmıştır. Araştırma, Modern Resim Sanatı ve eserlerinde Cennet Bahçelerindeki Adem ve Havva'yı yorumlayan sanatçılar ile sınırlandırılmıştır. Araştırmada, modern sanat alanındaki bu konuya ışık tutmak, farklı bir bakış açısı kazandırmak ve sanat alanındaki kaynaklara yeni özgün bir kaynak oluşturmak hedeflenerek sanatçıların eserleri çözümlenmiştir.

It is invetiabla to see a jar or vase of ointment and flowing, long hair as depiction of Mary Magdalene. In this study, the life of Mary Magdalene was examined within the light of canonical Bible and the legends written about her and then each section of her life is supported by examples from different periods of European painting art.

Hristiyan ikonografisinde Koimesis (Meryem’in Uykuya Dalması) çok farklı şekillerde karşımıza çıkmaktadır. 14. yy ile tarihlendirilen bu el yazmasında Bizans ikonografisinde Koimesis (Meryem’in Uykuya Dalması) sahnesinin temel tüm özellikleri görülmektedir.

Geçtiğimiz yüzyılda ortaya çıkmış bir tarikat olan Opus Dei, aynı zamanda Roma Katolik Kilisesi bünyesinde yer alan piskoposluklardan birisi, belki de en önemlisidir.
Opus Dei’nin Papalığın Şahsi Piskoposluğu olarak statüsü diğer piskoposluklardan farklı olarak bölgeye bağlı olmaması yönüyle hâlihazırda tektir. Bu dikkat çeken statüsünün yanı sıra; tarikatın kurucusu Josemaría Escrivá’nın teâmüllerin dışına çıkılarak ölümünden kısa bir süre sonra önce kutsanması sonra da aziz ilan edilmesi, Piskoposluğun kendi içinde dışarıya kapalı ve gizli bir yapı olması da Opus Dei’nin dikkatleri ve eleştirileri üzerine çekmesine neden olmuştur.
Bu çalışmanın amacı, dünya üzerinde gerek dini gerek de seküler alanda oldukça etkin olan Opus Dei hakkında açıklayıcı ve objektif bilgiler sunarak, tarikatın ve üyelerinin dini düşünce ve uygulamalarının değerlendirilmesidir. Böylece tarikat üzerindeki örtünün kaldırılmasına katkı sunulmuş olacaktır. Çalışmada, olaylar ve kişiler ekseninde konunun işlenmesi ve tarihi çerçevesi ile arka planının ortaya konulabilmesi açısından tarihi inceleme yöntemiyle birlikte fenomenolojik yaklaşım benimsenmiştir.

The subject of this article is to provide an iconographic analysis of patients with epilepsy healing scenes. It is illustrated in the inventory numbers of manuscripts Plut 6.23 and Grec 74. These manuscripts date to the last quarter of the 11th century and are samples of illustrated Tetraevangelion. Miraculous healings are recurring themes in the New Testament. Indeed, the healing of patients with epilepsy is mentioned in the New Testament such as in Matthew 17: 14–21, Mark 11: 14–29, and Luke 9: 37–43. Laur. Plut 6.23 and BnF Grec 74 are the illustrated Tetraevangelion. In manuscript Plut 6.23, the chapters of Matthew, Mark, and Luke depict the healing of epileptic patients and illustrate the relevant scenes. Besides, in inventory number Grec 74, the healing of patients with epilepsy is illustrated only in chapters of Matthew and Mark. Luke does not describe the miracle of healing patients with epilepsy. Plut 6.23 displays three scenes while Grec 74 presents two scenes. As a result, a total of five illustrations on healing of epileptic patients can be found in these two manuscripts. Illustrations of the healing of patients in the Plut 6.23 have a narrative style. Besides, these illustrated scenes include four or five consecutive moments. In other words, all the scenes in Plut 6.23 are closely related to New Testament chapters. However, in the scenes of Grec 74, the depiction is less detailed and is centered on the healing scene. Nevertheless, the iconographic details of Grec 74 display proficient artistic skill.

Since the beginning of the 20th century, Switzerland, particularly Geneva, has been home to artistic treasures that witness rich cultural exchanges between peoples and regions. Among these treasures is the exceptional Pozzi Collection of Persian paintings housed at the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire in Geneva. Transmission of knowledge and exchange of expertise are notably discernible in the Indo-Persian world, where languages, religions and cultural materials have been shared over several centuries. Art amateurs from Europe, fascinated by Indo-Persian and more generally by Islamicate arts and material cultures, assembled rich collections from the end of the 19th century. To what extent have these exchanges and fascination been reciprocal, and in which domains are they more perceptible today? Moreover, while gender studies have received ample attention in several subfields of global studies in art and literature, they have been overlooked in Indo-Persian studies.
This international colloquium aims to show the importance of these exchanges and to offer a critical dialogue to contribute to the understanding, knowledge, preservation and respect of material and immaterial heritage. Internationally renowned scholars, curators, conservators and artists are invited to share their scientific and creative research and expertise with the public.

The ethnographic study of architecture shows that building and restoring practices play an active part in the construction of the social groups that carry them out. ‘Proper’ practices and concepts of heritage distinguish ‘authentic’ from ‘inauthentic’ inhabitants of Damascus Old Town. Heritage development is therefore an act of culturally meaningful engagement through which an arena for confrontation and argument about the ‘production of the space’ is constituted. Focusing on the dynamic interrelationship of material, social and symbolic aspects of architecture, the author examines the agency and materiality of Arab houses as objects in a mutual relationship with people who build, restore, buy, sell and dwell in them. Getting involved in the material activities and engaging in relationships between the different social actors in this arena allows the intrusive ethnographic glance to grasp the cultural meaning of architecture, not simply as a symbolic representation of people who own...

Bu makale, bekâretin koruması hususunda, Tanrı tarafından kendisine erkek benzeri yüz kılları verilmiş, çarmıha gerilmiş ve bu yolla adanmışlığın sembolü haline gelmiş Azize Wilgefortis’in ikonografik gelişim sürecini ele almaktadır. Azizenin hayat hikâyesinin en eski kayıtlarının 12. yüzyıla tarihlendiği ve kültünün ise 13. yüzyıl içinde gelişim gösterdiği bilinmektedir. Fransa, Almanya, Hollanda ve İspanya topraklarında adı ve hayat hikâyesi detayları değişkenlik gösterse de kültü yaklaşık üç yüz yıl sürmüştür. Buna karşılık 16. yüzyılda yapılan eleştiriler ile bu ikonografik düzenlemenin ve dahi Azize’nin gerçek şahsiyetinin meşruluğu sorgulanmaya başlanmıştır. Volto Santo Haçı temsilleri ile olan kuşkusuz benzerlikleri nedeniyle 1969 yılında Katolik Kilisesi tarafından azizler takviminden çıkartılmıştır. Bu makale, yorumlar arasında bir seçim yapmaksızın, her bir tezi inceleyerek, kültün yükseldiği 13.-15. yüzyıl arası Güney Avrupa coğrafyasındaki temsillerin kökenine inmeyi amaçlamaktadır. The Jesuit Christian sect, which was thought to be a Jerusalem-based sect, but spread in Europe due to physical and political conditions, was briefly named as "SJ" (Societas Jesu-the community of Jesus) focusing its activities on missionary and educational institutions, was founded in 1534 by Ignacio de Loyala. The Jesuit sect, which began to spread in Austria since 1551, became very popular thanks to the colleges and educational institutions they established, and they had a say in the state administration by teaching many statesmen and kings' children. This sect, which also dominated the bureaucracy by placing its own graduates in important positions of the state, later contradicted the Pope and the European administrators by experiencing power poisoning, and in 1773 the rights of the sect were restricted and their educational institutions and assets were confiscated. Therefore, since the monitoring of the educational activities of this sect would also mean getting to know the political and religious history of Europe, Austria, the center of the Habsburg Empire, was chosen. However, in order to draw the lines of the study, only the high school education system of the Jesuits was emphasized and the reactions to this education were conveyed. These reactions were tried to be put forward with German works written between 18th and 19th centuries and between the 16th and 19th centuries were found to be appropriate as the time period of this study.

sonrasındadini sembol olarak kullanılan yunus balığıve Yunus peygamber öyküsü konu alınmıştır.İstanbul Arkeoloji Müzeleri'nde Bizans devrine ait iki eserde Hıristiyanlık sembolüne dönüştürülmüş yunus betimlerinin işlenişi ve anlamları araştırılmıştır.Birinci örnekte lahit üzerinde kabatma olarakYunus peygamber öyküsü betimlenmiştir.Bu konu ağırlıkla Hıristiyanlığın erken dönemlerinde katakomb, lahit ve altar panolarında görülmektedir.Yunus öyküsü İsa'nın yaşamıyla benzerlikler kurularak betimlenen bir konudur.Diğer eser ise Bizans devrine ait bir mezar taşıdır.Eserde kazıma tekniğinde sembolik olarak güvercin, İsa'nın monogramı ile birlikte yunus betimleri yer almaktadır.Bizans sanatında geleneksel olarak paganizme bağlanan konu ve sembollerin Eski Ahit'e dayanan örnekleri4.-6. yüzyıllararasına ait iki buluntu ile ortaya konulmuştur.

BERNARDO STROZZİ RESİMLERİNDE DAVUT VE GOLYAT İKONOGRAFİSİ 1 ÖZ İnsanoğlunun en güçlü ifade biçimlerinden biri olan sanat eserleri, yüzyıllardır inanca ait duyguların, düşüncelerin ve imgelerin yansıtılmasında çok önemli bir rol üstlenmiştir. Manevi dünyanın simge, imge ve görselleri her türlü materyal üzerinde yerini almıştır. Yahudilik ve Hristiyanlığın kutsal metinlerini içinde barındıran Kitab-ı Mukaddes'teki olaylar, mekânlar ve kişiler yüzyıllar boyunca ilgi çekici olmuştur. Üç semavi dinin ortak değer olarak kabul ettiği Hz. Davut'un hayatına ilişkin sahneler de bu ilginin odak noktalarından biridir. Kutsal metinler (Samuel 1-2 ve Krallar-1) ile tarihsel dokümanların verdiği bilgilere göre, bir çoban olarak tarih sahnesine çıkan Hz. Davut, İsrailoğulları'nın dağınık hâlde bulunan kabilelerini birleştirmiştir. İkiye bölünen Yahudi Krallığı'nı tek bir bayrak altında toplamayı başarması da Kral Peygamberin, birleştirici gücünün göstergelerinden birisidir. Bu çalışmada, Hz. Davut'un Golyat ile mücadelesini resmeden eserlere odaklanılmıştır. İkonografiye göre, Filistinli bir dev olarak adı geçen Golyat, İsrailoğulları'na meydan okumuş bunun sonucunda da Hz. Davut elindeki sapanla Golyat'ı yenerek başını kesmiştir. Çalışmada ele alınan resimler, Barok döneminin önde gelen simalarından biri olan Bernardo Strozzi'ye (1581-1644) aittir. "Panofsky metodu" esas alınarak incelenen bu resimler, Monografik çalışmalar dışında hiçbir yayına konu olmamıştır. Dolayısıyla Barok döneminin özellikleri içerisinde değerlendirilen bu resimlerin sanat tarihindeki öneminin ortaya konulması çalışmanın esas amacıdır.

It is invetiabla to see a jar or vase of ointment and flowing, long hair as depiction of Mary Magdalene. In this study, the life of Mary Magdalene was examined within the light of canonical Bible and the legends written about her and then each section of her life is supported by examples from different periods of European painting art.

Barok dönemde, Katolik Kilisesi'nin teşvik ve desteğini alan sanatçılar, özellikle Hristiyan azizlerinin ürpertici işkence ve öldürülme anlarına dair dramatik etkisi yüksek çok sayıda resim yapmıştır. Bu dinî resimlerin önemli bir kısmını, İsa'nın havarilerinin martirdom sahneleri oluşturur. Bu makalede, İsa'nın havarilerinin martirliklerine ilişkin sahneleri içeren 17'nci ve 18'inci yüzyıl Barok sanatına ait tuval üzeri yağlıboya tablolar araştırılmıştır. Görsel ve yazılı kaynaklar üzerinden yapılan bu araştırma ile söz konusu tabloların ikonografik açıdan incelenmesine odaklanılmıştır. Daha düşük maliyetle daha kısa sürede yapılabilir olmasının yanı sıra kolaylıkla yerlerinin değiştirilebilmesi bakımından da tuval üzeri yağlıboya tabloların hızla yaygınlaştığı ve kilise sanatındaki freskoların yerini aldığı Barok dönemde, azizlerin martirdom resimleri, Katolik Kilisesi'nin güç gösterisi ve propagandası olarak özellikle İtalya, İspanya ve Fransa'daki dinî mekânlar için ve çoğunlukla dönemin ünlü sanatçılarına sipariş yolu ile yaptırılan resimlerdir. Dönemin en fazla resmedilen havari-azizleri; Aziz Petrus, Aziz Andreas, Aziz Bartalmay ve Aziz Yuhanna'dır. Diğer havariler ise çeşitli nedenlerle bu azizler kadar resmedilmemiştir.

Makalenin konusu "Ares Hacıları" (Les pèlerins d'Arès) adıyla bilinen Fransa'da ortaya çıkmış bir yeni dini harekettir. "Ares Hacıları" hareketin yaygın ismidir. Hareket bu ismini kurucusu Michel Potay'ın vahiy aldığı yer olduğuna inanılan Güney Batı Fransa'da Ares (Gironde, Bordeaux) ve burayı ziyaret fenomeninden almıştır. Konu yeni dini hareket çerçevesinde genel hatlarıyla ortaya konmuştur. Buna göre ortaya çıkışı, ayin ve ibadet merkezi, inanç sistemi ve kutsal kitapları araştırmanın genel konularıdır. Çalışmanın hedefi Ares Hacılarının öğretisini ve dini sistemini kendilerini kabul ettikleri şekilde açığa çıkarmaktır. Bu yeni dini hareketin Hıristiyan öğretisini kendisine göre yorumlayarak kendi öğretisinin omurgasını oluşturduğu, İslam'ın Tanrı ve Hz. Muhammed'in peygamberliği fikrinden etkilendiği, diğer dinlere karşı sıcak yaklaştığı ve sevgi gibi duygularla sosyal ilerlemeyi hedeflediği görülmüştür. Hareketin üye nüfusu hakkında kesin bilgi vermek mümkün değildir, ancak 500-2000 arasında tahmin edilmektedir. Bu hareketin kendine özgü kutsal kitabı ve hac merkezi bulunmaktadır. Hareketin bir özelliği de başta İslam olmak üzere diğer dinleri de kutsal olarak kabul etmesidir. Ares Hacıları her yıl yaz mevsiminde Ares'te bulunan Maison de la Sainte Parole (Kutsal Söz Evi)'ü ziyaret ederek hac ibadetini yerine getirirler. Hareketin "The Gospel Delivered in Arès" (Ares'te Verilen İncil) ve "The Book" (Kitap) isimleriyle iki kutsal metni vardır ve bunlar tefsirleriyle birlikte "The Revelation of Arés" (Ares Vahyi) adıyla da basılmıştır.

This paper investigates the design patterns derived from the Chinese tradition of wood-based crafts which were applied on furniture as found in the illustrated books of “The Shahnama of Shah Tahmasb” and “The Shahnama of Firdausi” during the Safavid period. The intimate connections between the Middle East and Asia over the past centuries (1501 to 1722) raised interest in both the handcrafts and decorative design motifs of the two regions. This resulted in the appearance of Chinese decorative motifs in Safavid miniatures which commenced in early Islam when Shah Ismail became a Chinese art appreciator. The Shah’s patronage is explicit through the painters and designers working in the court workshops where the practice of Chinese structural composition and designed patterns are evident with continued production during the following Safavid kings.

FARANGI-SĀZI , a term (lit. making in an Occidental manner) referring to the style of a distinct group of Persian paintings from the second half of the 17th century. This new variant first appeared under the reign of Shah ʿAbbās II (q.v.; r. 1642-66) but was established under Shah Solaymān (1666-94). Farangi-sāzi paintings adopt a wide array of subject matter, ranging from traditional Iranian scenes, including portraits of kings and nobles, to European portraits, landscapes, biblical, and mythological scenes. The art does not fully adhere to either the pictorial conventions of European art or the prototypes of traditional Persian painting. The use of perspective, light effects, and a variety of subject matter render these paintings clearly distinguishable from Herat, Tabriz, or Isfahan styles of painting. Etymology. Literally, a farangi-sāzi (an object) is the work realized by a farangi-sāz (craftsman). Farangisāz is a compound term made of the adjective farangi and sāz, the present stem of the verb sāḵtan (to make, to construct). Farang in Persian and afranj in Arabic, are derived from "Frank," a term generally applied to Occidentals in the Middle Ages. At the time, the geographical delimitation of Farang was almost the same as present-day Europe and, historically, refers to Christian countries.

Cennet bahçesindeki Adem ve Havva'nın öyküsü yüzyıllardır farklı sanatçılar tarafından farklı biçimde defalarca yorumlanan bir konudur. İlk çiftin yaratılışı, cennetteki durumları ve yılanla olan hikâyesi Kutsal Kitaplarda anlatılmış ve insanoğlunun geçmişine ışık tutmuştur. Dünyadaki yerimiz, neden burada olduğumuz, ilk insanın durumu, soyumuzun nasıl geldiği ve Tanrıyla münasebetimiz insanın hep ilgisini çekmiştir. Araştırma, insanoğlunun bu en önemli durumunu modern resim sanatçılarının eserlerine yansıtma biçimini analiz etmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu araştırmada Cennet Bahçelerindeki Adem ve Havva'nın modern resim sanatındaki sanatçıların eserlerine nasıl yansıdığı ve nasıl yorumladığı incelenmiştir. Araştırmada betimsel araştırma modeli benimsenmiş, çeşitli kitap, dergi, makale, bildiri vb görsel ve yazınsal kaynaklardan faydalanılmıştır. Araştırma, Modern Resim Sanatı ve eserlerinde Cennet Bahçelerindeki Adem ve Havva'yı yorumlayan sanatçılar ile sınırlandırılmıştır. Araştırmada, modern sanat alanındaki bu konuya ışık tutmak, farklı bir bakış açısı kazandırmak ve sanat alanındaki kaynaklara yeni özgün bir kaynak oluşturmak hedeflenerek sanatçıların eserleri çözümlenmiştir.

In the subsequent period of the Ottoman Empire between both the nineteenth and twentieth century's, Syria undertook substantial changes, which led to the emergence and development of European forms in art and architecture. At present, the urgent problem of preserving and restoring the monuments of residential architecture of Damascus has arisen. This is especially important because Damascus is included on the world cultural values list of UNESCO. One of the most interesting periods in the development of Damascus urban planning is the period of “Damascus Baroque”, noting that it is not fully covered in studying the history and theory of architecture in Damascus. This research highlights the studying the creative heritage of residential Damascus architecture which is necessary in historical and cultural terms for their use in modern practice of design and construction, through emphasizing on the identification of architectural traditions and construction in the house of Damascus, analyzing the impact of Western European culture on the architecture of urban residential buildings through research and reviewing various historical and cultural data on these buildings, and their classification.

Overformalisation of clinical terms has denuded them of everyday meaning, but they act as a valuable shorthand between doctors. The initial problem is how to master the pattern recognition and language attributed to each syndrome. Exposure to patients is mandatory, and rapid acquisition of knowledge is possible, even with an inexperienced eye. Some students learn lists but I find animation far more provocative than strings of black and white characters. My mind's camera has processed those curiosities of morbid significance and refashions the features of disease in grotesque apposition. A translation emerges through my pen which is not really a patient at all. It is caricature.

Entre « second romantisme » et Art nouveau, l’espace occupé par la sculpture dite symboliste se situe au carrefour de nombreuses questions. Qu’il s’agisse des sujets traités ou de la pratique artistique, de ses sources littéraires ou, à l’autre bout de la chaîne, de ses déclinaisons décoratives, le symbolisme en sculpture reste un objet d’étude imparfaitement cerné.
