Despite its ubiquity and significance, behavioral habituation is poorly understood in terms of the underlying neural circuit mechanisms. Here, we present evidence that habituation arises from potentiation of inhibitory transmission within a circuit motif commonly repeated in the nervous system. In Drosophila, prior odorant exposure results in a selective reduction of response to this odorant. Both short-term (STH) and long-term (LTH) forms of olfactory habituation require function of the rutabaga-encoded adenylate cyclase in multiglomerular local interneurons (LNs) that mediate GABAergic inhibition in the antennal lobe; LTH additionally requires function of the cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB2) transcription factor in LNs. The odorant selectivity of STH and LTH is mirrored by requirement for NMDA receptors and GABA A receptors in odorant-selective, glomerulus-specific projection neurons (PNs). The need for the vesicular glutamate transporter in LNs indicates that a subset of these GABAergic neurons also releases glutamate. LTH is associated with a reduction of odorant-evoked calcium fluxes in PNs as well as growth of the respective odorant-responsive glomeruli. These cellular changes use similar mechanisms to those required for behavioral habituation. Taken together with the observation that enhancement of GABAergic transmission is sufficient to attenuate olfactory behavior, these data indicate that habituation arises from glomerulus-selective potentiation of inhibitory synapses in the antennal lobe. We suggest that similar circuit mechanisms may operate in other species and sensory systems. learning | memory | homeostasis | feedback H abituation is a specific form of implicit learning in which repeated exposure to an unreinforced stimulus results in a decreased behavioral response (1-3). By filtering out such constant sensory input, habituation enhances an animal's ability to focus its cognitive resources on novel or salient features of the environment. Thus, habituation serves as a building block for normal cognition (2, 4). Although it has been studied in many different contexts, causal connections between mechanisms, neuronal changes, and behavioral habituation have not been clearly identified (2). Given our current understanding, it remains unclear whether similar or distinct mechanisms underlie different forms of habituation; also unclear is how these mechanisms compare with those mechanisms used in consolidation or extinction of associative memory (1, 5).

A few years before the beginning of the Second World War, the rapprochement between socialism and western esotericism  would  be  outlined  in  France.  This  effort,  produced around the Collège de Sociologie as a reaction to Fascism, aimed to reactivate ideas and efforts that can be traced back to the French Revolution. In the following article we will examine at length some of the dynamics by which R. Yosef Hayyim of Baghdad—the renowned Ben Ish Hai (1834–1909) - integrated Kabbalah into daily life, and the complex way that he combined the teachings of the Rashash with simplified, esoteric practices meant for the general public. Needless to say, the relationship between the Kabbalists of Jerusalem and R. Yosef Hayyim illuminates a fascinating chapter in the history of Kabbalah in the late nineteenth and first half of the twentieth century.

One of the more astounding books produced by Bratslav Hasidism is Liqquṭei tefilot (1822–1827), composed by R. Nathan Sternhartz of Nemirov, which established a whole new genre in Bratslav literature. This article discusses the book's genesis, publication, and primary goals, as well as the controversy it generated. The new Bratslav theology that emerged after the death of Rabbi Naḥman led to disputes, both internal and external, over the role and character of R. Nathan. Examining this particularly obscure chapter in the early history of Bratslav Hasidism sheds light on the movement as it exists today in all its diversity, both ideological and social. Este artigo analisa a penetração de grupos e doutrinas religiosas ligados ao fenômeno da Nova
Era na região metropolitana de Belém. Apesar de apontar a existência de grupos sem liderança fixa
e de buscas individuais ecléticas, a pesquisa também discute a existência de um conjunto de religiões
cujas doutrinas são inspiradas em paradigmas ligados à Nova Era, porém suas vivências dão forte
ênfase ao elemento coletivo. Caracterizo esses grupos como Religiões de Nova Era, pois agregam os
valores da Nova Era a um sentido de coletividade, construído a partir de padrões inscritos na
modernidade. A penetração de Religiões de Nova Era em Belém indica uma maior pluralização do

Situates the life and fiction of Inkling Charles Williams in the network of modern occultism, with special focus on his initiatory experiences in A.E. Waite’s Fellowship of the Rosy Cross. Roukema evaluates fictional projections of magic, kabbalah, alchemy and ritual experience in Williams’s seven novels of supernatural fantasy. From this specific analysis, he develops more broadly applicable approaches to the serious expression of religious experience in fiction. Roukema shows that esoteric knowledge has frequently been blurred into fiction because of its inherent narrativity and adaptability, particularly by authors already attracted to the syncretism, multivalence and lived fantasy of the modern occult experience.

As an outcome of anthropological fieldwork, this paper analyzes three institutions located in peripheral places within the Argentine religious field. Analytically, they can be labeled as esoteric groups, because their imaginaries and rituals are linked to Western hermetic and occultist traditions, readapting key ideas of XIXth. century spiritualist positivism. Here we deal with the Escuela Científica Basilio, the Argentine Theosophical Society, and the AMORC Rosacrucian Order, mainly through the description of their imaginaries, doctrines, rituals, technologies of being, and self-presentation in the religious field. We also identify their notions of time and history, that are connected to sacred conceptions of the origins of their traditions and express an idea of remote belonging. In addition, regarding their public performances in the religious sphere, we identify forms of "precautionary identity" by means of which they secure certain positions within it, vis-a-vis negative and/or ambiguous social stereotypes about the esoteric -produced mostly by hegemonic players of the religious field, such as the Roman Catholic Church, and other Protestant groups. Our main purpose it to make visible, in the academic studies of religion, little-known groups and institutions that express philosophical, sociological, and ontological traits of a remarkable cultural richness.

Na Sociologia e Antropologia da Religião tem emergido cada vez mais pesquisas que se desenvolvem na interface com os estudos sobre o corpo, considerando que as experiências sociais são essencialmente corporais e que, portanto, investigar o universo religioso implica em compreender as dinâmicas corporais entre aqueles que vivenciam o sagrado. Visando contribuir para este campo de estudo busco neste artigo analisar a questão do corpo em um movimento religioso denominado Vale do Amanhecer, focando nos médiuns que não realizam a incorporação, assumindo a hipótese de que há diversas formas de se vivenciar essa religião, o que se operacionaliza a partir de dois polos, um mais ligado ao kardecismo e outra à umbanda, e cada um deles implica em uma lógica corporal distinta, compreendo que os médiuns que não incorporam estão mais próximos ao primeiro polo, o que é fundamental para melhor compreendermos suas disposições corporais.

"Les harmonies symphoniques" sont un projet composite, apparemment rédigé par Lucini entre 1885 et 1888, dont seulement deux poèmes ont été publiés en 1892, ceux-là mêmes qui témoignent du premier emploi vers-libriste chez Lucini. Si ces deux poèmes marquent le début d'une expérimentation qui sera propre de la poésie symboliste et 'futuriste' de Lucini, plus tard considéré à bon escient comme l'inventeur du vers libre en Italie grâce à sa redécouverte par les néo-avant-gardistes italiens des années 1960, d'autres parties de ce projet de jeunesse restées inédites de son vivant montrent ses intérêts en matière de cabalisme. Sans sous-estimer les apports des années 1970 sur ce sujet, nous proposerons des sources possibles et une interprétation ésotérique plus approfondie de ces écrits, qui seront aussi envisagés par rapport à la production concomitante et future de Lucini.

"The Symphonic Harmonies" are a composite project probably prepared by G. P. Lucini between 1885 and 1888 of which only two poems were published in 1892, those ones that show Lucini’s first verslibrist attempt. These two poems mark the beginning of an experimentation that will be typical of the symbolist and ‘futurist’ poetry of Lucini, who rightfully will be later considered as the inventor of the free verse in Italy, thanks to a revival accomplished by the Italian neo-avant-gardists of the 60’s. Some other parties of his early project, which remained unpublished during his lifetime, show his interests in cabalism. Without underestimating the contributions of the 70’s on this subject, we will propose its possible sources and a more profound esoteric interpretation of these writings, which will also be considered in relation to Lucini’s concurrent and future production.

Este estudo busca comparar a cartomante do conto de Machado de Assis "A cartomante", publicado em 1884, e a cartomante do romance A intrusa, de Júlia Lopes de Almeida, publicado em 1908. Tendo em vista as considerações de Ubiratan Machado (1996) sobre o posicionamento crítico dos dois autores quanto às práticas esotéricas, leva-se em consideração não só o recorte histórico que as narrativas retratam, mas ainda o contexto social no qual os textos foram produzidos. Há pontos comuns às duas cartomantes, mas também particularidades devidas ao estilo de cada um dos autores ou a outras variáveis, como diferenças de gênero ou de perspectiva. A partir do conceito de intertextualidade, formulado por Julia Kristeva, e explorado por Sandra Nitrini (2000), abordam-se, entre outros, os elementos destacados.

This article attempts to explain and prove the fallacies of the philosophical idea of transcendentalism, a notion which purportedly claims that all religions are essentially and equally valid. It traces its origin and focuses on its spread among religious followers, particularly Muslims. It questions the truth and validity of the idea as propagated by certain renowned modern intellectuals, Muslims or otherwise, using rational proofs, classical and contemporary scholarly opinions and most importantly, textual evidences. It tries to show how these resources have been misappropriated, and in the process, exposes the deficiencies and irregularities of the arguments favouring the idea. It also seeks to remind Muslims to be wary of its detrimental consequences if subscribed.

Oramai i legami con l'Occidente erano quasi scomparsi, lentamente dissolti dall'azione congiunta del Tempo e della Spazio.

RESUMO

Este ensaio pretende levar a cabo uma reflexão de teor epistemológico e metodológico sobre o objeto de pesquisa que pode ser designado como "o Oriente em/de Fernando Pessoa". Será defendida a tese de que não há vantagem em perspectivar um único e monolítico (conceito de) Oriente em Pessoa, mas antes vários orientes, não só porque os escritos de Pessoa se reportariam a mundos tão diversos quanto a Índia, a China ou a Pérsia, mas também por esses envios corresponderem a diversas necessidades, contextos e modos de escrita. Daqui se avançará a hipótese, partindo de uma análise crítica do trabalho de Edward Said, de que, na verdade, os Orientes pessoanos seriam melhor entendidos como interações com várias tradições textuais orientalistas. O presente artigo não pretende analisar um texto único de Fernando Pessoa que ilumine esta questão, mas introduzir uma reflexão, apoiada num roteiro de textos sobre a Índia, que esclareça as condições de possibilidade de uma investigação na área do(s) Oriente(s) em/de Pessoa.

ABSTRACT

This essay is an epistemological and methodological study of the Orient in/of Fernando Pessoa. It argues in favour of this comprehensive object of research, questioning the usefulness of a single concept of Orient in the analysis of Pessoa's writings. These writings address such different geographies and cultures as India, China or Persia and imply different contexts, modes of writing and textual necessities, thus creating several Orients. Using the work of Edward Said as a starting point, this essay argues that Pessoa's Orients can be better understood as interactions with several orientalist traditions. Therefore, it does not concern only one text, but rather takes its cue from a number of Pessoa's writings on India to consider the conditions of possibility of a research on the Orient(s) in/of Pessoa. * Universidade de São Paulo. Aby Warburg hizo su famosa lecture en Roma (1912) sobre los frescos astrológicos del Palazzo Schifanoia y, así, se ubicó entre los primeros en estudiar un problema hasta entonces marginal entre los historiadores. La institucionalización de los estudios históricos sobre este tema concreto, en el marco del Warburg Institute y el boom de la tesis Yates, nos han traído hasta aquí. Sobre esa huella pionera iniciada hace un siglo, en las últimas dos décadas los scholars despliegan sus investigaciones nucleados en flamantes redes y en un marco de interpretación postyatesiano, basados en la construcción académica del esoterismo occidental de Antoine Faivre.

In the early 1990s, Western esotericism became an academic subject within the realm of history. Thanks to a plethora of research, our field has grown twofold via the emergence of a solid specialized journals; and of three large networks of specialists (the Association for the Study of Esotericism-ASE; the European Society for the Study of Western Esotericism-ESSWE, and Centro de Estudios sobre el Esoterismo Occidental/UNASUR). Even though the history of western esotericism in Latin America has yet to be written, there are some methodological preventions to point out that every specialist in Esoterism should observe.

Il presente saggio analizza alcune lettere che Michel Vâlsan, continuatore dell’opera di René Guénon, indirizzò allo studioso Philippe Guiberteau sul finire degli anni ’50 allo scopo di illustrare la presenza di una dottrina degli stati molteplici dell’Essere nel Convivio Dante. Sarà utile, pertanto, tornare criticamente sul testo di Vâlsan per valutarlo e valutare se possa costituire un apporto metodologico positivo agli studi danteschi odierni.

This essay analyzes some letters that Michel Vâlsan, the main follower of René Guénon’s work, addressed to the scholar Philippe Guiberteau in the late 1950s in order to illustrate the presence of a doctrine of the multiple states of Being in Dante’s Convivio. It will therefore be useful to return critically to the text of Vâlsan to evaluate it and evaluate whether it could constitute a positive methodological contribution to today's Dante studies.

Sull'attribuzione della paternità di questo libro al Randolph ci sono dei dubbi. Riportiamo l'opinione dello studioso americano Joscelyn Godwin: "Io penso che Magia Sexualis è liberamente adattato dalle istruzioni manoscritte date (o vendute) da Randolph ai membri di Eulis. Ma finora nessuna copia di queste ci è nota. Io posso solo comparare il testo della Naglowska con (a) i documenti di insegnamenti circolanti all'interno della H. One of the distinctive literary genres of Bratslav Hasidism is the shir yedidot (Song of
Endearment), a mystical poem concerning the stature of the soul of R. Naḥman of
Bratslav. These poems, still sung by Hasidim today, contain esoteric traditions that reveal
the multiple voices within Bratslav Hasidism. This article traces the development
of this form from the beginning of the nineteenth century until the present, and argues
that changes in emphasis within these songs reflect shifts in Bratslav theology over the
years. The study thus presents a more complex historical picture of Bratslav Hasidism,
which has usually been seen as one monolithic unit.

Few fields of academic research are surrounded by so many misunderstandings and misconceptions as the study of Western esotericism. For twenty years now, the Centre for History of Hermetic Philosophy and Related Currents (University of Amsterdam) has been at the forefront of international scholarship in this domain. This anniversary volume seeks to make the modern study of Western esotericism known beyond specialist circles, while addressing a range of misconceptions, biases, and prejudices that still tend to surround it. Thirty major scholars in the field respond to questions about a wide range of unfamiliar ideas, traditions, practices, problems, and personalities that are central to this area of research. El presente artículo aborda algunos debates periodísticos entre miembros de diversas agrupaciones católicas y esotéricas en la Costa Rica del cambio de siglo XIX al XX. Mediante el concepto de sociedades de creencias se estudian los imaginarios y representaciones presentes en fuentes periodísticas en el periodo 1892 y 1935.

O presente artigo propõe uma discussão a respeito da relação Ocidente-Oriente, procurando compreender de que forma ela está presente no contexto neoesotérico na contemporaneidade, sobretudo, no movimento da Nova Era. Partimos do pressuposto que houve a priori, uma criação do que entendemos por Oriente por parte do olhar Ocidental em seu interesse colonial, o que atraiu muitos viajantes, aventureiros e escritores para os países considerados exóticos, como o Egito e a Índia. Assim surgiu dentro da academia o Orientalismo, que dentre as suas premissas pesquisa estas relações entre europeus e suas colônias. No século XX ocorre uma proliferação e uma dinâmica de diversas formas de religiosidades de cunho esotérico que viajam para os países orientais
para buscar nestas experiências os fundamentos de novas doutrinas. Destacamos neste artigo a Sociedade Teosófica Brasileira e o estabelecimento de sua sede em Brasília, fato que está intimamente relacionado a diversas crenças de caráter utópico, mítico e místico
que foi atribuído à fundação da nova capital brasileira. Brasília, sonho de muitos estadistas brasileiros, se concretiza em 1960, representando uma nova era de mudanças culturais e socioeconômicas na região do Planalto Central. Seu projeto teve o cristianismo como uma de suas bases, mas a partir das diversas interpretações de um sonho profético do padre Dom Bosco, novas religiosidades peregrinam para a região, acreditando que o local é a verdadeira terra prometida que mana leite e mel.

Hyle Pracetas, Purifica pensamientos, palabras y acciones ... y hazlos armoniosos. Hyle leyó, leyó, volvió a leer y luego meditó durante mucho tiempo acerca de los Deberes. No encontró palabras, ni palabras, ni conceptos a los que no se sintiera completamente adherido. Una sola duda finalmente emergió dentro de él, casi una voz interior: "Son verdades profundas, son declaraciones importantes, casi obvias, pero ... ... ¿pero qué agregan más y más de lo que ya habías escuchado?" Esperó con impaciencia la próxima reunión en la que podía hacer preguntas y escuchar. Mientras esperaba, la duda continuó zumbando en mi mente, donde había un diálogo silencioso entre Duda y Raziocinio. Este último no se cansó de repetir: "No seas la molestia habitual. Si los Deberes son lógicos y positivos, simplemente sígalos ". Llegó el día tan esperado y con placer vio que también estaba presente el Trabajador de edad avanzada del Opificio. Trató de expresar sus pensamientos lo mejor que pudo, no sin disculparse por hacer otra pregunta. El Trabajador Principal del Opificio lo escuchó atentamente, como siempre mirándolo a los ojos con ojos sonrientes, luego, después de una larga pausa de silencio, lo tranquilizó: "Expresar lo que uno piensa siempre es bueno, compartirlo es beneficioso, ya que ayuda a todos los trabajadores de Opificio a mejorar la conciencia. Su pregunta es legítima, para responder debe preguntarse en la perspectiva necesaria. Si nos limitamos a analizar los significados expresados en los Deberes, encontraremos que son prácticamente los mismos que los que ya se les transmitieron de manera sacra. Entonces es legítimo preguntar la razón por la cual se reiteran con otras palabras. Hay una razón y trataré de ilustrarlo. La tradición, de la que potencialmente somos herederos, es un cofre lleno de gemas preciosas, cristalinas y luminosas: los significados. Absolutamente, son luz pura, no contaminada. Estamos, cuando los recibimos, para colorearlos; o más bien, es nuestra mente la que los colorea con nuestras reacciones multiformes.

Nineteenth-century Decadence coincided with a resurgence of esotericism, alternative religions, and a belief in magic as a rejection of secularism and science. Until now, this intersection has been most richly considered in relation to Catholicism. Most well-known is Huysmans’s tetralogy, which traces Durtal’s movement from the Black Mass to the monastery. However, Decadent literature has a much more complicated relationship with mystical, supernatural, and magical realms, one which extends beyond a simple rejection of Christian faith and has a legacy reaching beyond the long nineteenth century.

This two-day interdisciplinary conference is hosted by the Decadence Research Unit at Goldsmiths. Our aim is to investigate the role of occultism and magic(k) in the Decadent literary and artistic tradition through a consideration of the relationship between Decadence and the esoteric revival of the fin de siècle, providing an opportunity to re-examine the Occult roots of Decadence and explore the wide range of artistic responses to the blurred boundaries between Decadence, mysticism, ritual, and the Dark Arts. Is the meeting of practical magic and literary esotericism indicative of a symbiotic relationship between Decadence and the Occult, or does it represent merely another aspect of the Decadent rejection of mainstream ideologies?

The Haskalah, or “Jewish Enlightenment,” is often considered to be a secularizing trend within modern European Judaism. Yet as recent studies have begun to show, this characterization ignores the Romantic and religious attitudes of many Haskalah authors (maskilim). This article reassesses the Haskalah’s relationship to esotericism and Kabbalah by analyzing the life and work of Elyakim Getzel Hamilzahgi (1780–1854), a Galician maskil with a deep commitment to Kabbalistic study. Hamilzahgi’s pioneering textual criticism of Kabbalistic texts, particularly the Zohar, countered the attitudes of Western European scholars and Eastern European Hasidim alike. His scholarship aimed to purify Kabbalah from corruption and to render it a source for a renewal of Jewish religious culture.

Resumen.
La relación entre alquimia y cristianismo en la baja Edad Media y el período temprano-moderno es objeto de arduo debate académico en la actualidad. Mientras algunos especialistas no observan una relación entre ambas sino hasta el siglo XIV y en adelante; otros enfatizan un vínculo ya vigente en la Edad Media clásica. En nuestro enfoque desde la historia cultural, teniendo en cuenta que los alquimistas integran la " tradición esotérica occidental " y que el cristianismo es la religión hegemónica en la España del Siglo de Oro, abordaremos históricamente los textos de dos seguidores del arte en la corte de Felipe II – Richard Stanihurst y Diego de Santiago-, con el objeto de analizar la defensa de sus prácticas y representaciones alquímicas frente a un contexto cultural adverso, hegemonizado por el horizonte de sentidos y significados cristianos, que se traduce en constantes prohibiciones, persecuciones y ejecuciones, no sólo en la península ibérica sino en la Europa occidental toda.


Abstract
The relationship between alchemy and Christianity in the low middle ages and early-modern period is the subject of arduous academic debate nowadays. Although some specialists did not establish a relationship between the two until the fourteenth century-and onwards; others emphasize a link already in force in the classical middle ages. Bearing in mind that alchemists integrate the " tradition of western esotericism " and that Christianity is the hegemonic religion in sixteenth-century Spain, in our approach from the cultural history, we will historically address the texts of two followers of the art in the court of Philip II – Richard Stanihurst and Diego de Santiago-, to analyze and defend their practices and alchemical representations amid adverse cultural context, hegemonized by Christian meanings, which was was put in force by the constant prohibitions, persecutions, and executions, not only in the Iberian peninsula, but also throughout western Europe.

The author explores the relation between spiritualism ́s cosmology and the different forms of interacting with the sacred. Describing the different types of spiritual entities and dimen- sions, the main axis of the Escuela Científica Basilio ́s cosmology is unveiled to reveal a concep- tion of the human condition as a crossroads between spiritual and material natures. This concep- tions comes with a stock of resources and corporal techniques in order to evolve into a superior spiritual state and leave behind the material needs.

A lo largo de toda la segunda mitad del siglo XIX se desarrollan en todo el mundo occidental diversos grupos neoespiritualistas, fruto del clima de insatisfacción producido por el excesivo materialismo que conlleva el positivismo. En España sobresale la figura de Mario Roso de Luna (1872-1931), fundador de la Sociedad Teosófica. Roso de Luna publicó múltiples obras de materias diversas: aparte de varios artículos de astronomía y de arqueología, escribió una obra de investigación psicológica: Introducción al estudio de la fantasía humana (1902). En varias obras críticas desarrolla los fundamentos del pensamiento teosófico, como En el umbral del misterio (1909). Pero también tiene una importante y muy interesante obra de creación literaria (novelas y libros de cuentos), y sobre todo, una recreación de leyendas tradicionales, en las que difunde su doctrina.

A temática dos símbolos e do esoterismo levou ao encontro com a enigmática gravura “Melencolia I”, de Albrecht Dürer. Por trás desta obra desvela-se uma surpreendente atmosfera renascentista em torno do tema da melancolia que, segundo pesquisas, fez com que médicos, filósofos e teólogos se detivessem por séculos no estudo deste humor. Historicamente estabelecida, a melancolia tornou-se um sintoma dos grandes intelectuais, aqueles eruditos que, na eterna busca pelo conhecimento e enfrentando as limitações da cognição humana em conhecer, caíram em estado de melancolia, ou na acídia, assim denominada a melancolia medieval. A grande importância dada ao melancólico levou Dürer a produzir “Melencolia I” como um tributo ao estado de ânimo que atingiu os grandes sábios. Mas, sua obra não é simples. A quantidade de símbolos expostos na gravura reflete uma outra realidade, a realidade esotérica. Partindo dessa compreensão e munido de uma compilação científico-bibliográfica, nossa pesquisa deseja abordar o caráter esotérico em “Melencolia I”. Assim, exploramos o contexto filosófico e religioso do Renascimento para compreender o ambiente intelectual que impulsionou a confecção da obra. O Neoplatonismo florentino, a grande confluência dos estudos humanísticos e o desabrochar do esoterismo, como a Alquimia e a Magia, foram elementos chave no contexto renascentista que, chegando à Alemanha, influenciaram Dürer a executar uma de suas mais famosas obras, a “Melencolia I”. Como resultado a pesquisa encontrou uma hermenêutica para a gravura a partir do contexto cultural em que a mesma foi produzida. Levamos em consideração os aspectos do esoterismo, tão enaltecidos e promulgados no período, sobretudo pelo Neoplatonismo de Florença. Também encontramos indícios de que alguns aspectos da vida e Dürer influenciaram a temática de “Melencolia I”.

RESUMEN: La Escuela Científica Basilio y la Iglesia Católica se enfrentaron abiertamente durante el gobierno peronista (1946‐1955). Este conflicto entre espiritismo y catolicismo es un capítulo más de la puja entre los referentes del campo esotérico argentino y los miembros de las Iglesias cristianas. En el debate académico actual sobre el problema de la relación entre esoterismo y política, este estudio de caso introduce precisiones pertinentes para profundizar nuevas investigaciones. RESUMO: A Escola Científica Basilio e a Igreja Católica se enfrentaram abertamente durante o governo peronista (1946‐1955). Este conflito estre espiritismo e catolicismo é um capítulo mais da disputa entre os líderes do campo esotérico argentino e os membros das Igrejas cristãs. No debate acadêmico atual sobre o problema da relação entre esoterismo e política, este estudo de caso introduz detalhes relevantes para aprofundar novas investigações.

ABSTRACT: The Basilio Science School and the Catholic Church clashed openly during the Peronist government (1946‐1955). This conflict between spiritism and catholicism is another chapter of the collision between the referents of the Argentine esoteric field and the members of the Christian Churches. In the current academic debate on the problem of the relationship between esotericism and politics, this case study introduces pertinent details to deepen further research.
