Early Ottoman History

Written for a Greek conference addressing activist art practices, this essay explores artist-led, ethically-oriented projects aimed at addressing "wicked problems"—complex, open-ended social issues. Its case study focuses on the dialogical process of artist Rigo 23, who collaborated with local communities in the Mata Atlantica region of Brazil to shape not only the formal aspects of their collective work, but also the administrative/curatorial infrastructures that toppled presumed hierarchies, allowing them to generate new forms of capital (economic, social, cultural, ecological).

Because such practices are speculative and unpredictable, curators have adapted by shifting from controlling outcomes to creating platforms that support local knowledge production, allowing for a dynamic and open-ended process.

This paper attempts to pave the way for an alternative method and perspective of interpretation. The portrayal of political and military figures in official Ottoman writings can reveal insights into political thought, ideology, and propaganda. In our case, these narratives precisely illustrate how the Sultan justified his campaign against Vlad the Impaler. Such information cannot be provided by European chronicles, for instance.
Moreover, Ottoman chronicles provide insights into diplomatic relations and the exchange of ideas. On another level, concerning mental and social history, they reflect the expectations, fears, prejudices, or ideals of their audience. The authors of these texts did not create their works in isolation from contemporary political or cultural environment. Thus, they are voices of their era, encapsulating and mirroring its expectations. Their writing was crafted for consumption and success. Without this recognition, they risked obscurity, much like the poet Maʿali, who lamented in his dedication to the Sultan within his versed chronicle literarily about his “starvation”.

This study, which examines early Ottoman historiography through the narratives of Bayezid I, explores the practices of constructing, interpreting, and (re)textualizing the past by history-writers who authored works between 1390 and 1500. It seeks to understand the relationship between the texts written by poets, bureaucrats, scholars, dervishes, ghazi-raiders, sufis, and Turkmen authors—who composed their works in the "here and now"—and the period they lived in, as well as their identities. To this end, the study focuses on how the Ottoman defeat by the Timurids at the Battle of Ankara (1402) and the subsequent legitimacy crisis impacted the early Ottoman literary elites. By examining the phases that the textual memory of Bayezid I evolved through the century following his death, the study argues that the narratives of Bayezid I hold fundamental importance in understanding early Ottoman historiography and the dynamics of the 15th century.

Bayezid anlatıları üzerinden erken dönem Osmanlı tarihyazımını inceleyen bu çalışma, 1390-1500 yılları arasında eser kaleme alan tarih yazarlarının geçmişi anlamlandırma ve inşa pratiklerini inceler. Eserlerini ‘‘şimdi ve burada’’ yazan şair, bürokrat, alim, derviş, gazi-akıncı, sufi ve Türkmen müelliflerin, kaleme aldıkları metinler ile içinde yaşadıkları dönem ve sahip oldukları aidiyetler arasında nasıl bir ilişki olduğunu anlamaya çalışır. Bu amaçla, Ankara Savaşı’nda (1402) Osmanlıların Timurlular karşısında uğradıkları mağlubiyet ve sonrasında meydana gelen meşruiyet krizinin erken Osmanlı okur-yazar elitleri üzerinde nasıl bir etki meydana getirdiğine odaklanan söz konusu çalışma, I. Bayezid’in ölümü sonrası oluşan metinsel hafızanın yüzyıl boyunca geçirdiği evreleri inceleyerek; I. Bayezid anlatılarının erken dönem Osmanlı tarihyazımı ve 15. yüzyıl dinamiklerinin anlamlandırılmasında kritik bir öneme sahip olduğunu iddia eder.

Şehrin ve bolgenin icinde bulundugu asayis sorunlari karsisinda, mahalle sakinlerinin birbirlerine kefil olmasi seklinde yazilmistir. Mahalleler, medreseler ve esnaf olmak uzere 3 tertip halinde duzenlenmistir. Calismamizda, oncelikle kefâlet defterinin yazim ozellikleri uzerinde durulmustur. Sonrasinda ise defterdeki kayitlar teker teker incelenerek, XIX. yuzyil ortalarinda Harput sehrinin mahalleleri ve demografik yapisi, muderris ve ogrencileriyle birlikte medreseleri, han ve hamamlariyla birlikte butun esnaf kollari ve sayilari ortaya cikarilip bunlarin degerlendirilmesi yapilmistir.

Makalenin amacı “Exploration in Ottoman Prehistory” adıyla Mişigan Pres (Michigan Press) Üniversitesi tarafından 2021’de yayımlanan Rudi Paul Lindner’e ait, Kronik Kitap’ca Ekim 2022’de Osmanlı Tarihöncesi adıyla yayınlanan eser hakkındadır. Çok emek verilerek ve çok sayıda kaynağa ulaşarak ortaya konulan eserde birçok mühim hususa dikkat çekilir, ama maalesef kitap, birçok tarihî coğrafya hatasıyla doludur. İbn Hordazbih ve el-İdrîsî gibi İslâm coğrafyacılarına hiç; Aksarayî, Kazvinî, Halkokondiles, Deguignes ve sair tarihçilere ise gereken önem verilmemiştir. Ayrıca Herodotos, Strabon, Anna Komnena, Kinnamos ve Khoniates gibi tarihçilerin verdiği isimler araziye yerleştirilmeden, Remsi’nin (W. M. Ramsay) Anadolu’nun Tarihî Coğrafyası adlı eserindeki hataları bilmeden, Osmanlı’nın kuruluşuyla ilgili çok sayıda hatalı ayrıntıya girilmiştir. Ön Yüz: Noktalı kare bordur içerisinde "La ilahe illallah / Muhammed resulallah / Ei imam el-Mustasım / Billah emir'ül müminun" yazısı bulunmaktadır. Kare bordurun üzerinde üç yıldız, solunda "sene", altında "sitte", sağında ise "erbain ve sitte mie" yazısı bulunmaktadır. Arka Yüz: Noktalı kare bordur içerisinde "Es-Sultan'ul azam / Zıllallahu fil alem / İzzeddünya veddin / Keykavus bin Keyhüsrev" yazısı bulunmaktadır. IV.Kılıçarslan sikkelerinde "El-Mülkilillah" ibaresi sadece H.665 Madenşehir dirhemlerinde kullanılmıştır. Dolayısıyla bu sikkeyi IV.Kılıçarslan'ın son dönemlerine tarihlemek yanlış olmayacaktır. Ön Yüz: Bu küçüklükteki bir bakır parada az rastlanılır nitelikte bir yazı sanatı ile ortada, madalyon içerisinde "El Mülkilillah" yazmaktadır. Etrafı ise net okunamamaktadır. Karacahisar Kalesi Eskişehir merkeze yaklaşık 7 km. mesafede yer alan bir ortaçağ kalesidir. Arkeolojik veriler ışığında 7. yüzyıldan itibaren iskana sahne olduğu anlaşılan kale 1230'lu yıllarda Ertuğrul Gazi, 1288 yılında ise Osman Gazi tarafından fethedilmiştir. The city of Malatya experienced many disasters in the last quarter of the 19th century. Malatya, which suffered great damage and loss of life in the earthquake of March 3, 1893, lost hundreds of its population in the same year due to the cholera epidemic. Several years before these disasters, he was exposed to two major fire disasters and suffered a great amount of material and moral damage. The first fire broke out at the end of 1889 and turned the Malatya Bazaar to ashes. The same bazaar suffered a second and bigger fire disaster less than a year later. In addition to the shops in the bazaar, some other buildings were also damaged in the fires. As in the aftermath of the earthquake, efforts were made to heal the wounds of the victims after fires. In this regard, the injuries of the fire victims were tried to be healed with the efforts of both the administrators of the Malatya liva and the Ma'mûretü'l-'Azîz province to which it was affiliated, and the representatives of the Ottoman government who ruled the state from the capital Istanbul. In addition to financial aid, some conveniences were provided to the people of Malatya. In this study, the damages caused by the aforementioned fires in and around the bazaar, what happened after the disasters, the studies and measures taken to heal the wounds of the disaster victims were discussed in the light of archival documents and newspapers of the period, and the material and moral difficulties of the people of Malatya and the regional administrators at that time were given.

Throughout history, the city of Thessaloniki has been an important point opening to Europe from the Anatolian geography. For the first time in 1387, but definitely after the Ottomans conquered the city in 1430, it became the gateway of the Ottoman Empire to the Balkans and Europe. It remained under Ottoman rule for 482 years until the Ottoman Empire fell from it on 26 October 1912 and became one of the most important centers of the state. The raiders, one of the most important elements of the Ottoman army, had a great role in making Thessaloniki a Turkish land. Among these raiders, Gazi Evrenos Bey was undoubtedly the most striking name. Evrenos Bey, who participated in many wars with the Ottoman army, made great conquests in the lands called Western Thrace today. As the reward of these achievements, the lands from Komotini (Gümülcine) to Giannitsa (Yenice-i Vardar) were given to him as property or timar. Evrenos Bey established a foundation on these lands given to him, and a large foundation organization emerged in the lands from Yenice-i Vardar to Komotini to get his with other foundations established by his children. Undoubtedly, this organization is of great importance in terms of Turkification of Greek geography and the long stay of the Ottomans in the region. In our study, examples of the reflections of Evrenos Bey foundations on the Thessaloniki Kadi registers and archive documents were shown and we tried to give information about the borders of the foundation.

Evliya Çelebi o meşhur Seyahatnamesinde "Bağ ve bahçelerinin etrafı kamışlarla çevrili olup, şehrin içinden Şikarlı çay denilen suyu çok tatlı bir nehir akmaktaydı. Bu küçük nehir üzerinde 5 ağaç köprü vardı ve şehre yakın akan Kalfa çayı ile birleşerek Akdeniz'e dökülmekteydi. Bu iki nehir binlerce bağ, bahçe ve bostanı da sulamaktaydı" diye bahsettiği şehir Gümülcine.

Çağdaş kentleşme sorunları ve yeni yapılanma baskıları tarihi yapıları etkileyen önemli başlıklardır. Yeni yolların açılması, mevcut yolların genişletilmesi, çevre düzenlemeleri, elektrik, su, kanalizasyon ve doğalgaz gibi alt yapı inşaatları kentin büyüyen ihtiyaçlarını karşılamak için gerçekleşirken, tarihi yapılar bu inşaat faaliyetlerinden yapısal olarak etkilenmektedir. Araştırmanın amacı tarihi yapıların çevresinde yapılan kazıların yapılara olan etkisinin literatür çalışmaları ve alan çalışması üzerinden araştırılmasıdır. Bu çalışmada İstanbul kentinde bulunan üç kültürel miras yapısının restorasyonu inşaat mühendisliği çerçevesinden incelenerek tarihi yapıların çevrelerinde gerçekleşen kazılardan yapısal olarak nasıl etkilendiği araştırılmıştır. Araştırma için seçilen üç proje; Şeyh Murad Efendi Mescidi, Adile Sultan Türbesi ve İskender Paşa Camii restorasyonlarıdır. Araştırmacı seçilen üç projede danışman inşaat mühendisi olarak görev almıştır. Bu araştırmada ilk olarak tarihi yapıların çevresinde yapılan kazıların yapılara olan etkisi ve alınacak önlemler ile ilgili literatür taraması yapılmıştır. İkinci olarak araştırma için seçilen üç projeye ait restorasyon süreçleri açıklanarak yapılarda meydana gelen hasarlar ve bu hasarlar nedeniyle yapılara uygulanan güçlendirme yöntemleri açıklanmıştır. Son aşamada tespit edilen sorunlara getirilen güçlendirme önerilerinin tarihi yapılar için oluşturabileceği riskler tartışılmıştır. Yapılan çalışmanın sonucunda, tarihi yapıların çevresinde yapılan alt yapı çalışmalarının tarihi yapıların stabil durumunu bozarak yapılarda çatlamalara ve kısmi yıkılmalara sebep olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Özellikle tarihi eserlerin üzerine oturduğu zeminde oluşan değişimlerin müdahalesi zor yapısal sorunlara yol açtığı yapılan bu çalışmada görülebilmektedir. Bu çalışma ile gelecekte tarihi yapıların çevresinde yapılacak alt yapı ve üst yapı projelerindeki duyarlılığın arttırılması hedeflenmiştir.
Contemporary urbanization problems and reconstruction pressures are important topics that affect historical buildings. While opening new roads, widening existing roads, landscaping, infrastructure constructions such as electricity, water, sewage and natural gas are carried out to meet the growing needs of the city, historical buildings are structurally affected by these construction activities. The aim of the research is to investigate the effects of excavations around historical buildings to the structural systems of the buildings through literature studies and a case study. In this study, the restorations of three cultural heritage buildings in the city of Istanbul were examined within the framework of civil engineering and the effects of the excavations on the structural systems of these three buildings were under-inspection. Three projects were selected for the research; Seyh Murad Efendi Masjid, Adile Sultan Tomb and Iskender Pasha Mosque. One of the researchers worked as a consultant civil engineer in three selected projects. During the course of the research, firstly, the literature review about the effects of the excavations around historical buildings on the buildings and the precautions to be taken has been analysed. Secondly, by explaining the restoration processes of the three projects selected for the research, the damages in the buildings and the strengthening methods applied to the buildings due to these damages were explained. The risks posed by the retrofitting proposals to the problems identified at the last stage for historical buildings were discussed. As a result of the study, it was determined that the infrastructure works around the historical buildings disrupted the stable state of the historical buildings and caused cracks and partial collapse in the buildings. It can be seen in this study that the changes that occur especially below the foundations of the historical artifacts cause structural problems that are difficult to intervene. With this study, it is aimed to increase the awareness in infrastructure and superstructure projects to be built around historical buildings in the future.

This paper starts with an analysis of Armenian migration to the lands of the Golden Horde and southern Rus' (Ukraine). It highlights how the long-distance trade between the Golden Horde and its neighbour states was operated by an Armenian merchant network. Thereafter, it explores the legal status of Armenians in the Genoese and Venetian colonies in the Black Sea region as well as legal autonomy of Armenian communities in Polish kingdom and Moldavian principality. Finally, it demonstrates the variety of diplomatic services provided by Armenian merchants.

Bu makale, 2011 yılında Gazi Evrenos Bey üzerine tamamladığım doktora tezimin ardından yayınlanan diğer makalelerimde tekrar ettiğim bazı yeni bulgular üzerine tarihçi Heath W. Lowry ile başlayan polemik ve iddialarımı içermektedir. Yayınlarımda ilk defa bahsettiğim, Gazi Evrenos Bey'in etnik menşei üzerine yeni bulgu ve belgelerin yanı sıra ulaştığım sonuçların da söz konusu tarihçi tarafından intihal yoluyla çeşitli vesilelerle yayınlandığını tespit ettim. Bunun üzerine aramızda başlayan akademik tartışma, son olarak kendisinin yayın kurulunda olduğu dergide yazdığı cevapla devam etti. Burada hem kendi iddialarım hem de söz konusu tarihçinin kimi iddialarına karşı bilim camiasını mesele hakkında aydınlatmak amacıyla detaylı bir cevap kaleme alınmıştır.

In 1976 I denied the correctness of the commonly held date of 1452 for Pletho's death. I argued instead for 1454. The difference of two years meant not only that Pletho lived to see the fall of Constantinople in 1453, but also that a whole series of works in the Plato-Aristotle controversy had to be redated. 1 The basis for the 1452 date is a notice found amid other notes by an unknown hand on the last folio of the fifteenth-century manuscript M. 15 in the University Library in Salamanca 2 and in another series of notes in the hand of Pletho's disciple and admirer Demetrius Raoul Kabakes on f. 50v of Gr. 495 of the Bayerisches Staatsbibliothek, Munich. 3 With only trivial variation, both notes state that Master Gemistus died on the first hour of Monday, 26 June in the fifteenth Indiction. Since the only year in this period in which 26 June falls on a Monday in the fifteenth Indiction is 1452, Pletho's date of death seems well established. Though Kabakes was a bizarre character whose trademark was, in Bidez's phrase, an orthographe fantasiste, 4 the fact that he wrote the notice in Munich Gr. 495 might be viewed as strenghtening its credibility. 5 Futhermore, since Dositheus, Metropolitan of Monem basia seems to have died on 1 September 1452 6 and on blank folios (ff. 7v-8r) in MS Venice, Bibl. Marc., Zan. Gr. 333 (= 644) Bessarion wrote his memorial verses on Pletho and then

Seyahatname'den aktardığımız metinleri küçük puntolarla yazıp farkların kolay görülmesini sağlamayı amaçladık2. Ayrıca yazıtları günüz diline aktarıp yazının sonuna sözlük ekledik.

Yunanistan'ın Bağımsızlık Savaşı, 1877-78 Osmanlı-Rus Savaşı ve ardından yapılan Berlin Kongresi, Balkan Savaşları, 1914-1918 Dünya Savaşı, Kurtuluş Savaşı ve ardından imzalanan Mübadele Protokolü ve Lozan Antlaşması süreçlerinde, Yunanistan'daki Müslüman-Türk nüfus devamlı şekilde Anadolu'ya doğru zorunlu veya kendi istekleriyle bir göçe tabi olmuştur. Bu göç sırasında mübadiller, yanlarında kişisel, taşınabilir eşyalarından mümkün olanları getirebilmişler fakat beş asır boyunca göç edilen bölgelerde oluşturulan vakıf binalarını terk etmek zorunda kalmışlardır. The capture of Constantinople by the Ottoman armies of Mehmed II in 1453 was a cataclysmic event that reverberated throughout Renaissance Europe. This event intensified the exodus of Byzantines to Italy and beyond and they brought along with them the heritage of Greek antiquity. Laonikos Chalkokondyles contributed to the Renaissance with his detailed application of Herodotos to the fifteenth century, Apodeixis Historion, and made sense of the rise of the Ottomans with the lens of ancient history. The Apodeixis was printed in Latin, French, and Greek and was widely successful. The historian restored Herodotean categories of ethnicity, political rule, language, and geography to make sense of contemporary events and peoples. This was a thorough study of ancient historiography and Laonikos thus parted ways with previous Byzantine historians. I refer to Laonikos' method as "revolutionary classicizing", to describe the ways in which he abandoned the ideal of lawful imperium and restored the model of oriental tyranny when he described the nascent Ottoman state. What appears to be emulation of the ancient classics was radical revival of political concepts such as city-states as ethnic units, freedom defined as independence from foreign rule, law-giving as fundamental aspect of Hellenic tradition which did not encompass the Christian period. Laonikos has often been studied in the context of proto-nationalist historiography as he had composed a universal history, wherein he had related extensive information on various ethnic and political units in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. However, such proto-nationalist application does not fully capture Laonikos' classicizing interests. Laonikos referred to his contemporaries as Hellenes, not because he was a nationalist who defined political identity only by recourse to language and common history. Rather, Laonikos believed that Hellenic identity, both referring to paganism as ! vi!

The ideas of Plato (429-347 BC) have exerted such an abiding influence on western philosophy and political thought that it is easy to forget that for many centuries, between about 500 and 1400, his works were almost unknown in western Europe. This was partly because very few people in Medieval Europe knew enough Greek to read Plato and even if they had, copies of the Dialogues were almost impossible to obtain, with only the Timaeus available in Latin translation. Scholars were therefore largely dependent on earlier Latin authors such as Cicero and St Augustine for a second-hand knowledge of Plato's ideas. It was the rediscovery of the Dialogues in the original during the Italian Renaissance of the fifteenth century that set western thought off on new paths, a rediscovery that was made possible by the preservation and transmission of Plato's work by scholars in Byzantium

This article is an attempt to construct a new approach to and narrative of early Ottoman conquests in Thrace in the 1360s and 1370s. It argues that the so-called second capital of the Ottomans, Adrianople (Edirne), was conquered three times through a detailed evaluation of known, neglected, or unknow sources. The second conquest was almost certainly by frontier lords who conquered the city for their own interests. At the same time, the article challenges the unilinear rise paradigm within the Ottoman studies. It showcases that, in the given period, the political arena between Ottomans, Byzantines, and other Turkish lords was open to various contingencies and dominated through constant negotiations among various parties. The practices of conquest, loss, and reconquest by those various parties determined the color of struggles not only in the case of Adrianople but also various other Thracian towns. The article finally sheds light on the role of a suppressed group of frontier lords who had their own political claims and agenda, betimes contrary to the Ottoman center. In the final analysis, this is an attempt to understand how new historical reconstructions may open up ways to conceptualize the political and social nature of the region in this period.

This article presents a new interpretation of the reign of the Ottoman sultan Mehmed the Conqueror (r. 1444-46, 1451-81) as refracted through the twin historical lenses of Mughal South Asia and the Renaissance Mediterranean. On the one hand, it argues that Mehmed, despite his current reputation as a conquering hero of Islam, in fact aspired to a model of sovereignty analogous to Akbar's Sulh-i Kull, and with a common point of origin in the conceptual worlds of post-Mongol Iran and Timurid central Asia. On the other hand, it also draws from the historiography of the Italian Renaissance to interpret Mehmed's cultural politics as being simultaneously inspired by a particular thread of Renaissance philosophy, the Prisca Theologia, which in many ways served as the Ottoman equivalent of Akbar's Sulh-i Kull.

Gabriel Biel (c. 1410-1495) was a theologian in Tübingen and a leader among the Brethren of Common Life. He was the most widely known representative of the late medieval via moderna, which was much influenced by fourteenth century thought. He was the first professor of theology to teach via moderna at the University of Tübingen, and he also had a remarkable influence on the Brethren of Common Life. Biel studied in Heidelberg, Erfurt, and Cologne. After graduation, he was a cathedral preacher in Mainz and joined the Brethren of Common Life before receiving a professorship of theology in Tübingen. Biel's main works consist of a commentary on the mass, Canonis missae expositio, and a Sentences commentary, Collectorium in quattuor libros Sententiarum. Both in philosophy and in theology, Biel was a close but not unoriginal follower of William of Ockham. Biel's Sentences commentary is formally an abridgement of Ockham's commentaries, but several other authorities, including Thomas Aquinas, Bonaventure, John Duns Scotus, Gregory of Rimini, Peter of Ailly, and John Gerson are cited extensively. In metaphysical and epistemological views, Biel closely followed Ockham, adopting his criticism of intelligible and sensory species, but rejecting his notion of multiplicity of substantial forms. Historical data on where the Tomb of Ghazi Mestan is relatively less than the Tomb of Hudavendigar and this knowledge can be obtained from a few publications. Based on the documents from the Ottoman Archive, the fact that the Ghazi Mestan Tomb was rebuilt from the foundation due to its irrecoverable state at the beginning of the 20th century has been disclosed for the first time with the current study. The resources also show that the building date of the tomb was either the 14th or 16th century and that it was constructed as an open tomb in the beginning, and then was turned into a closed one, thereby estranging a lot from its first appearance. Having been used by Serbian and Albanian soldiers as a military shelter during the Kosovo War in 1999; eventually the restoration works carried out by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) were completed and it became accessible for visit in 2012. Based on a few documents related to the Ghazi Mestan Tomb in the Ottoman Archive, it can be concluded that the tomb was in a ruined state at the very beginning of the 20th century. Sheikh Hasan, the tomb keeper of Ghazi Mestan Tomb, attempted for a restoration by reporting the ruined state of the tomb to the Centre and asking for assistance from Sultan Abdulhamit II. Thus, in compliance with the decree dated January 1905, they broke grounds of the Ghazi Mestan Baba Tomb accompanied by prayers on July 15, 1905. However, the construction stopped again after breaking grounds for the tomb. Even though when the construction of Ghazi Mestan Tomb completed and became accessible for visitors could not be determined exactly, it is predicted that it was finished before the visit of Sultan Mehmet Reşad’s visit of the tomb on Friday, June 16, 1911, as a part of his Rumelia Tour. Therefore, in the light of the achieve documents, it could be argued that the construction of Ghazi Mestan Tomb started in July 1905 and was completed in 1911 spring. Right after its restoration, the tomb suffered damages during the Balkan War I (1912), Balkan War II (1913) and the First World War started in 1914. Various attempts were made to reorganize the damaged places during the wars and a significant decision was made as a result of the report prepared by Major Hüseyin Hüsnü Bey from Skopje in order to be able to construct the Tomb of Ghazi Mestan independently. The decision was the assignment of Mimar Kemalettin, who was going to be one of the pioneers of National Architecture Movement I during the Republican Era after the collapse of the Ottoman State, as “General Director of Buildings” to Kosovo with the purpose of making necessary explorations for the restorations of Hudavendigar Ghazi martyr’s cemetery and the tomb of Ghazi Mestan. The Directorate of Foundations (Evkâf-ı Hümâyûn Nezâreti) assigned Mimar Kemalettin Bey some other tasks as well during his journey. According to the archive documents, after completing his explorations in Pristina, Mimar Kemalettin Bey was supposed to go to Vienna to explain the issues related to the plan about the cemetery field allocated for Muslims in Vienna at the Embassy. After Vienna, he would also inspect/ check the recently built tomb of Gül Baba, one of the famous Ottoman Ghazis, in Pest. No other document in the achieve related to the outcome of Mimar Kemalettin’s assignment has been found.
