Automated Control of Systems

In smart farming, precision agriculture irrigation is essential to reduce water consumption and produce higher crop yields. Closed-loop irrigation based on soil moisture measurements has demonstrated the capability to achieve a considerable amount of water savings while growing healthy crops. Automated irrigation systems are typically implemented over wireless sensor networks, where the sensing devices are battery-powered, and thus they have to manage energy constraints by implementing efficient communication schemas. Self-triggered control is an aperiodic sampling strategy capable of reducing the number of networked messages compared to traditional periodical sampling. In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient communication strategy for closed-loop control irrigation, implemented over a wireless sensor network, where event-driven soil moisture measurements are conducted by the sensing devices only when needed. Thereby, the self-triggered algorithm estimates the occurrence of the next sampling period based on the process dynamics. The proposed strategy was evaluated in a pecan crop field and compared with periodical sampling implementations. The experimental results show that the proposed adaptive sampling rate technique decreased the number of communication messages more than 85% and reduced power consumption up to 20%, while still accomplishing the system control objectives in terms of the irrigation efficiency and water consumption.

Об'єктом дослідження є процес плавки сталі 30ХНМЛ в двох електродугових печах місткістю 6 тонн. Технологічний аудит процесу здійснювався на діючих печах в сталеливарному цеху машинобудівного підприємства, який спеціалізується на виготовленні великого фасонного лиття для виробів транспортного машинобудування. Аудит мав на меті аналіз відповідності виконуваних основних технологічних операцій плавки необхідним регламентованим технологічним інструкціям. На основі проведення серійних плавок отримана вибірка експериментально-промислових даних по визначенню межі міцності зразків сталі 30ХНМЛ. Встановлено, що за реальними виробничим даними серійних плавок неможливо постулювати закон розподілу, зокрема, говорити про нормальний розподіл. Тому використання статистичних вибіркових функцій для оцінки стабільності плавки недоцільно. В якості критерію оцінки стабільності плавки запропоновано використовувати коефіцієнт стабільності (η), заснований на розрахунку ентропії (Н). Запропоновано для практичного застосування в оцінці стабільності плавки використовувати нечіткий опис цих величин. В цьому випадку можна прийняти, що розраховані значення ентропії і коефіцієнта стабільності плавки для кожної вибірки окремо і загальної вибірки формують ліву (α jp) і праву (β jp) межу нечіткості. Запропоновано в нечіткому описі використовувати функції приналежності (L-R) типу. У конкретному випадку можна прийняти, що α jp = 2,63, β jp = 2,71 (для нечіткого числа Н) і α jp = 0,22, β jp = 0,24 (для нечіткого числа η). Завдяки запропонованому способу оцінки стабільності плавки забезпечується можливість отримання об'єктивних даних, не покладаючись на припущення про нормальний закон розподілу. Запропонований спосіб інваріантний типу технологічного процесу в заготівельному виробництві. Це можуть бути процеси обробки металів тиском, термічної обробки та інші металургійні процеси. Важливість запропонованого способу пов'язана з тим, що якість подальших технологічних операцій для отримання готових деталей залежить від успадкування якості заготівельного виробництва як попередніх технологічних етапів виробництва продукції. Today, elevator production in Ukraine needs innovative solutions and changes, because most of the equipment in operation was built and installed in the 70-80s of the last century. Due to the high cost of new frequency-controlled winches and the complexity of maintenance, the search for modernization and improvement of existing elevator winches remains an alternative. No less important stage of operation is diagnostics. Timely detection of damages and forecasting of future failures allow to provide high-quality work during all term of operation, and also to reduce expenses of budgetary funds for difficult repairs. Computer simulation plays an important role in the modern world both during the design of a new elevator and during operation. Thanks to fairly simple and clear programs, it is possible to reproduce not only the standard modes of operation of the mechanisms, but also to perform calculations of future possible faults. The use of visualization facilitates the perception of information for operators, engineers and other users involved. The paper presents a computer model of a two-speed elevator with an induction motor and a reduction winch. The research used Matlab / Simulink software, which is intuitive to use and, in the full sense of the word, informative. The built model of the elevator has feedback on the calculated load of the cabin. The latter is determined by the transients during engine start-up and affects the positioning accuracy at a stop. The dependences of the influence of the degree of cab loading on the positioning accuracy are found. In the second stage, the supply voltage parameter is added. A change in this parameter within ± 10% affected the previous calculations of the loading degree and deteriorated the accuracy by almost three times. At the same time, most indicators (75%) meet the requirements of international standards EN 81-20: 2014 with positioning accuracy in the range of ± 10 mm. In further studies it is planned to use the obtained results to reduce the sensitivity of the algorithm for calculating the loading degree of the cabin to change the supply voltage and ensure the required positioning accuracy in the entire load range of the cabin when changing the supply voltage ± 10 %.

This study is part of a project to revise the methodology for bioclimatic building design to improve its usability within cold climate architecture. This paper aims to study the impact that the choice of building performance simulation tool and model settings and simplifications can have on the results we obtain. We start with a more conventional approach to the BPS analysis of an office building without conventional mechanical systems in a cold/temperate climate, with typical model and simulation settings. Then we move into a more tailored approach, as an attempt to further approximate the reported measurements. Highlights • high-performance envelope (cold/temperate climate) substantially increases interdependence of indoor climate with internal gains, importance of correct schedules and values • effect of moisture, very relevant both for BPS (settings/results) and bioclimatic analysis • space conditioning approach: materials-based [vs.] airbased • warm-up period with internal gains: significance for moisture load into the materials (the higher the load, the longer the loading period) • from higher ventilation rates for CO2 control, to lower values for moisture and comfort (allow moisture/thermal loads into materials)

В современной металлургии широкое распространение получили дуговые сталеплавильные печи. В связи с энергоѐмкостью данных установок актуальной задачей является разработка усовершенствованных алгоритмов управления печными агрегатами, обеспечивающих снижение доли затрат на электроэнергию и расходные материалы в составе себестоимости конечного продукта. Одним из путей данной задачи является разработка усовершенствованной системы управления инжекторами углеродосодержащего материала, что является целью данной работы. Используемые методы. В процессе исследования выполнен анализ существующего алгоритма управления инжекторами углеродосодержащего материала на примере наиболее распространѐнной системы управления электрическим режимом ARCOS (Primetals Technologies, ранее Siemens VAI, VAI Fuchs, Vantron, Германия). Выявлены основные недостатки, связанные с применяемым параметром управления, а также общим подходом к определению степени экранирования дуг вспененным шлаком. С учѐтом опыта ранее проведѐнных исследований предложены технические решения, направленные на устранение выявленных недостатков. Новизна. Предложены новые подходы к управлению расходом углеродосодержащего материала, в основе которых лежит применение величины относительного действующего значения суммарных нечѐтных гармоник напряжений дуг в качестве параметра регулирования, а также учѐт интенсивности действующего режима продувки расплава. Результат. Разработана новая система управления инжекторами углеродосодержащего материала дуговой сталеплавильной печи, обеспечивающая улучшенное шлакообразование и условия горения электрических дуг за счѐт использования усовершенствованной формулы расчѐта коэффициента шлака, а также вспомогательной системы автоматической адаптации длин дуг при недостаточном шлакообразовании. Практическая значимость. Применение новой системы управления инжекторами позволяет обеспечить оптимальную величину расхода углеродосодержащего материала в соответствии с интенсивностью продувки расплава, а также возможностью полного экранирования дуг вспененным шлаком в условиях заданной рабочей точки. В результате обеспечивается сокращение себестоимости конечного продукта за счѐт увеличения теплового КПД дуг и сокращения расхода углеродосодержащего материала. The research paper considers the issues of ensuring effective management of the processes of transformation of fare systems in public transport. Were analyzed the prospects for implementation of automated fare control systems and also the theoretical and methodological approaches to the formation of existing automated fare systems, which could determine the perspective of implementation of such systems in the domestic market of transport services provision, that can solve a number of problems related with fare simplicity and comfort, formation of a flexible fare system, use of various forms of payment, as well as monitoring and control of money revenues, including for transportation of preferential contingent. The analysis determined the cost-effectiveness of existing automated fare systems. Were predicted ways to improve the cost-effectiveness of existing automated fare systems through econometric modelling. The introduction of proposals after obtaining of simulation results will identify the potential economic impact and ways to optimize management processes. An analysis of the legal and regulatory framework for the formation and use of automated fare systems concluded that there was insufficient legislative support for the autonomy of management decisions on local public transport systems, in particular under the conditions of the reform of decentralization of power and the formation of integrated territorial communities. The subject of the research are methods and technologies for automating the process of software product testing. The aim of the work is to optimize the time and costs for performing automated testing of software products. The following tasks were solved: analysis of existing software testing automation systems; formation of system of selection criteria for testing automation systems; development of formalized model of selection process; development of automation system selection algorithm considering customer's requirements; development of UML diagrams for presentation of functional capabilities of developed application; development of application for informational support of selection process. To solve these tasks, we used methods of system analysis, theory of sets and technologies of cross-platform applications development. The following results were obtained: The most popular systems of test automation have been analyzed, their scope and main capabilities have been singled out. Selection criteria are singled out, divided into qualitative and quantitative. Formalized model for choosing test automation systems taking into account their characteristics and customer requirements is proposed. Developed UML diagram shows the functionality of the developed subsystem. The proposed algorithm for determining the re-recommended system of test automation allows us to take into account the vectors of criteria for testing systems. On the basis of the formalized model and algorithm we developed a subsystem that allows us to determine the optimal variant of test automation system on the basis of the introduced selection criteria. Conclusions: informational support for choosing a test automation system for software products based on the developed algorithm takes into account the customer's requirements and the characteristics of the existing systems, which allows us to select the most preferable option out of the possible systems. The main result of the developed subsystem is a recommendation for a user to use an automated testing system, taking into account customer requirements.

The article presents the results of the pedagogical experiment to introduce a series of automated teaching methods in the educational process at Melitopol State Pedagogical University named after Bogdan Khmelnitsky, conducted in 2012–2014. Developed and tested systems in the disciplines "Operating Systems", "Basic scientifi c research", "Technologies for Information Management", "Software Testing" consist of an electronic textbook, course and distance learning unit "Electronic Journal". Analysis of the results of the pedagogical experiment showed that the use of automated teaching methods in the educational process of the university positively affects the improvement of student performance.

У роботі досліджувалися покриття системи Fe-Mn-Si-V-C, нанесені з використанням наплавлення порошковою стрічкою (FCAW). Термодинамічні дослідження системи Fe-Mn-Si-V-C були виконані з використанням методики CALPHAD. Дослідження мікроструктури проводили методами оптичної мікроскопії (OM), сканувальної електронної мікроскопії (SEM), енергодисперсійної рентгенівської спектроскопії (EDS) та рентгенівського фазового аналізу.

За результатами експериментальних досліджень особливостей процесу кристалізації напівпровідникових кристалів та сполук на їх основі обґрунтовано фізичну модель процесу та запропоновано методику реєстрації початкового моменту фазового перетворення розплаву у кристал. У книзі представлено результати досліджень на доменній печі, обладнаній сучасним безконусним завантажувальним пристроєм, після її реконструкції, а саме: дослідження перед задувкою печі, особливості вибору задувочної шихти, налаштування параметрів роботи завантажувального пристрою. Представлено результати створення та реалізації модельної системи для підтримки прийняття рішень по вибору і коригуванню програм завантаження, використання модельної системи націлене також на навчання технологічного персоналу в умовах освоєння нового завантажувального пристрою. Розроблено та реалізовано новий підхід до вибору енергоефективних режимів завантаження при використанні багатокомпонентної шихти змінної якості, а також в перехідних дуттєвих режимах і в умовах відсутності природного газу і пиловугільного палива при роботі печі зі збільшеною кількістю водяної пари в дутті. Використання представлених у книзі режимів завантаження при освоєнні пиловугільного палива дозволили забезпечити експлуатаційну стійкість системи охолодження і безаварійну роботу досліджуваної доменної печі. Представлено результати досліджень по використанню інформації засобів контролю розподілу температур газів у колошниковому просторі для прийняття обґрунтованих рішень з управління завантаженням печі шихтовими матеріалами. Представлено результати досліджень впливу технологічних факторів на характер зміни температур футерівки по висоті печі протягом п'яти років її експлуатації в різних технологічних умовах, з визначенням граничних значень температур, що дозволяють діагностувати стан футерівки: її знос, або формування захисного гарнісажу. У книзі представлені результати задувок доменних печей після їх тривалої зупинки із застосуванням нових удосконалених підходів, які дозволили безаварійно вивести печі на робочі показники.

With new technologies surfacing day-by-day, we can use them to make new products and even can modify the existing ones. In a practical implementation, it is possible to use electric motors to open and close a refrigerator door. This can be done by reversing the direction of motion of motor when required. Reversing the polarity of the starter winding will solve the purpose. There are many ways to operate a motor and control of motor from human voice is one of them. In this application, a microcontroller-based voice input electronic circuit is designed, which can be used to rotate the motor in the required direction and hence to open and close the refrigerator door. The motor is connected to the axis of the refrigerator door. The relays are connected to the electric circuits for straight and reversed polarity. The motor operates in a direction as commanded. Microswitch are used to send signal to the microcontroller, which further stops the power supply to the relay and ultimately stops the motor rotation.

This paper presents ongoing research towards a low-cost/low-power wirelessly enabled distributed sensing system that can be placed throughout underground coal mines to potentially measure the total incombustible content (TIC) of the deposited dust. Underground coal mining operations produce finely divided coal dust, called float dust, which deposits throughout the mine. This combustible material can be feedstock for coal dust explosions. In the U.S., Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) standard 23789 dictates that a TIC of 80% or above has to be maintained in coal mine return airways. However, current best practices for collection TIC measurements involve manual sampling and laboratory procedures. In this work, we describe work towards developing a new wireless sensor network (WSN) consisting of low-cost/low-power sensor modules that use a variety of optical and microfabricated sensors to continuously monitor the TIC of the accumulated dust. The information is then transmitted off-board through a reliable ad-hoc wireless network. Called Sensors for Automated Control of Coal Dust (SACCD), this system can potentially, for example, be used to automate the control of rock-dusting equipment to maintain TIC at acceptable levels.

In dissertation to work the new decision of the important economic problem consisting in creation information and the software for construction of automated system of learning and training of steel founders and  automated system of control by technological process of melt of steel in  steel smelting furnaces is developed. The formalization of tasks of management of difficult periodic process of melt constant in steel smelting furnaces is executed on the basis of decomposition of process, with allocation of the basic stages of process for construction automated system of control by technological process of melt of steel , and also training programs for steel founders. Has received the further development of modeling of processes of melt constant in steel smelting furnaces. For the first time offered basic circuit of management of iterative process of search the decision of system of the equations, which describe a condition of balance between slag and metal, with the help network of neurons. The efficiency of application automated system of control by technological process of melt of steel for acceptance of the technological decisions on management of object is shown because in addition to used parameters the results of modeling are taken into account.

In this paper the results of development of the system of tools for identification of operator’s active state development were proposed. The types of delay of operator’s active state (motor activity) from the point of view of their criticality for the control object were developed. Classification of approaches to correction of each type of delay of operator’s active state was designed. The system of qualitative indices of identification of various types of delay was proposed. The functional scheme of technical realization of the device of operator’s active state identification using defined approaches and indices was constructed. The methodology of the adaptive correction of the situation of controlling the object by the results of identification of the level of operator’s ability to fulfill actions, adequate to the time, was suggested.

Intelligent Sensing Networks for Monitoring
And Stabilizing the Environment

Abstract

In this paper, we present a generic methodology for networks to sense, process the data scanned and thus monitor environments in which they exist.  They are generic to the extent that they can be deployed for any application in which the underlying processes needs to be controlled for correctness and/or optimality.  Scanning devices routinely sense the parameters that influence the correctness and/or optimality of results.  Lexical analyzers in turn identify the objects whose parameters are being scanned.  Pattern recognition (PR) programs recognize the entire scenario, from which the objects are drawn. Then the objects and processes are analyzed by a multiplicity of techniques encoded as Object Oriented Programs (OOP) to evaluate the optimality of the objects, blending of the objects, in context of that particular scenario that has been recognized and the underlying processes that are occurring within that scenario.  Embedded models are invoked to check and monitor the overall efficacy in pursuing the objective functions. Adjustments and corrections are introduced through the network to ascertain the global optimality in realizing the objective function.  Learning the behavior of the objects, their response to the OOP and the successful negotiation with the objects gives rise to the novel concept of “predictive programming”

We assert that the approach is general enough to be used for any application that has a scientific and numerical rationale.  We also disclose a methodology that unifies the aforementioned AI techniques within the Intelligent Network framework.  Every minute or micro-step can be programmed in the network for every application by using the Intelligent Network Conceptual Model (INCM evolved by the Europe based International Telecommunications Union).  This provides new dimensions of control and usage for the network much like the deployment of the new intelligent networks. New applications can thus be invoked like new network service within a few minutes.

We also propose that the generic architecture of any basic switching system be deployed with one additional “knowledge module” for Intelligent Object Processing.  Such intelligent objects (scanned and sensed within the environment) are the main players driving our society and are composed of numerous socio-economic variables such as the GNP, consumption, taxation, gross economic activity, the velocity of money, the interest rate, the employment level, educational level, etc.  These variables are documented in econometric models for the economies of nations.
