Globalisation and internationalisation do not only cause the opening of borders between countries and widening of geographical horizons, but also result in overcoming mental barriers and expanding one’s horizons. Technological, social and economical changes that provide easier information access and increase transparency of the organisational environment; on one hand they force adoption of the current situation to occurring changes, on the other hand they have impact on the organisation’s strategic planning. One of the results of internal and external changes on the organisational life is the drive for flexibility in human resources systems. The employers have to be aware of increasing level of human resources diversity and – what is strongly related to this fact – necessity of customisation of the management systems to the new expectations. The following may be considered the biggest challenge in the HR field: changes in the age structure related to the ageing of the societies, the tendencies to eliminate the exclusion of the disabled people, as well as equal chances with regard to gender, origin, religion and sexual orientation. Diversity is not seen any more as a threat, but as a chance, which should be taken advantage of – it gives new point of view, helps with identification of gaps and problems in the organisational systems and provides innovative solutions.

Introductory preconditions: The evolution of human resources on companies and the management of work-life cycle define all the actions we will be able to avoid age discrimination in activities like first opportunities, recruitment, prevention and the impact of IT improvements into employers with old age.

This volume—“Selected Contemporary Challenges of Aging Policy”—is the most international of all published monographs from the series “Czech-Polish-Slovak Studies in Andragogy and Social Gerontology.” Among the scholars trying to grasp the nuances and trends of social policy, there are diverse perspectives, resulting not only from the extensive knowledge of the authors on the systematic approach to the issue of supporting older people but also from the grounds of the represented social gerontology schools. Oznacza to, że stale zwiększa się w nich udział osób dojrzałych i starszych. Ta tendencja dotyczy także Polski w perspektywie najbliższych kilkudziesięciu lat. Od 1995 r. co miesiąc przybywa na świecie milion osób, które ukończyły minimum 60. rok życia 1 . Według szacunków Światowej Organizacji Zdrowia (WHO) w 2025 r. liczba osób 60+ na świecie będzie wynosiła 1,2 mld, a w 2050 r. osiągnie 2 mld 2 .

Kompendium wiedzy na temat podtrzymania aktywności zawodowej pracowników w wieku 50+, dedykowane instytucjom otoczenia biznesu (IOB). Kompendium powstało w ramach projektu „STAY. Wsparcie aktywności zawodowej osób 50+ w przedsiębiorstwie. Zdrowy i zmotywowany pracownik – zadowolony pracodawca (STAY. SupporTing
ActivitY for people 50+ in the company. Healthy and motivated employee
– satisfied employer)”. Zawartość kompendium odpowiada założeniom MODELU STAY, który oferuje pakiet instrumentów zarządzania wiekiem – ich wdrożenie do praktyki organizacyjnej może stanowić pomoc dla firm, które chcą utrzymać w zespole osoby dojrzałe.
Proponowane w projekcie rozwiązania, które składają się na MODEL STAY, mają charakter proaktywnego zarządzania wiekiem. Podejście proaktywne zakłada, że dojrzali pracownicy są cennym zasobem organizacji, którego właściwe „wykorzystanie” sprzyja nie tylko samorealizacji człowieka, ale stanowi także czynnik umacniania pozycji konkurencyjnej firmy.

Globally, the population is ageing, which has serious consequences for businesses. The prosperity of companies is crucially dependent on the ability to effectively manage their employees, including older workers. Best practice in age management is defined as those measures that combat age barriers and/or promote age diversity. These measures may entail specific initiatives aimed at particular dimensions of age management; they may also include more general employment or human resources policies that help to create an environment in which individual employees can achieve their potential without being disadvantaged by their age (Walker, 1999).
Promoting early retirement is generally not encouraged. Companies now have to encourage longer working lives. Much needs to be done to ensure that work remains a positive experience for workers throughout their career trajectories, and it does not damage their health. It has been found by studies that health is significantly related to retirement timing (both planned and unplanned) (Goyer, 2013, Adams et al., 2014), influences work performance (Merrill et al., 2012; Ilmarinen, 2009), and health-related organisational policies can positively influence employee retention (Towers, 2005). The major contemporary challenges to health at work are those associated with the way work, and work organisations are designed and managed. This is especially true for older workers. A comprehensive and effective approach towards age management can be very beneficial for them. How should companies implement age management? Some possible ways are set out in this policy brief below, which focuses on best practices in age management regarding ergonomic aspects and health interventions for older workers at an organisational level. The intention is to discuss the current situation and to illustrate some organisational techniques in selected countries. This policy brief can serve as an inspiration for, among others, companies and policymakers. Recommendations for successful practice are included. In total, this policy brief covers 8 COST  member countries (the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom) to give a glimpse of the current situation of best practice in age management and show how companies in various states deal with ergonomic aspects, health interventions and the ageing of their labour force.

Labor Transitions is a paper that is part of Chapter 2 "Psychosociology and age management" of the "Guide to Age Management and Occupational Risk Prevention", published by Osalan - Basque Institute of Occupational Safety and Health of the Basque Government.
The paper "Labor Transitions" provides a review of good practices in this field, carried out in the first two decades of the 21st century. Among which are the experiences:
- Line 2017 (BMW);
- Mid-career balances, driven by employers in the framework of European programs (The Mentor Me, Sodexo, Hekatron, Abloy Oy, etc.);
- The Mid-Life Lifestyle MOT, in the United Kingdom (following on from the Cridland report);
- The "Professional Transition" project developed in France as a public-private partnership initiative.
The paper concludes with an eminently practical section, which includes a list of activities to facilitate a first approach to the development of interventions for career transitions.

Transiciones laborales, es un artículo que forma parte del Capítulo 2 "Psicosociología y gestión de la edad", de la "Guía de la Gestión de la Edad y Prevención de Riesgos Laborales", editada por Osalan - Instituto Vasco de Seguridad y Salud Laborales, del Gobierno Vasco.
El paper "Transiciones laborales" aporta una revisión de buenas prácticas en la materia, realizadas en las dos primerás decadas del siglo XXI. Entre las que se encuentran las experiencias:
- Línea 2017 (BMW);
— Balances de mitad de carrera, impulsados por empleadores en el marco de programas europeos (The Mentor Me, Sodexo, Hekatron, Abloy Oy, etc.);
— La ITV del estilo de vida de la mediana edad, en el Reino Unido (como consecuencia del informe Cridland);
— El proyecto «Transición profesional» desarrollado en Francia como una iniciativa de colaboración público-privada.
El "paper" finaliza con un apartado de eminente espíritu practico, que incluye una relación de actividades para facilitar un primer acercamiento al desarrollo de intervenciones para las transiciones profesionales.

"This Panorama study is the very first publication to result from a collaboration between four European partners - the university of Milan Bicocca in Italy, the Institute for Employment Studies in the UK, the Institut der Deutschen Wirtschaft in Cologne, and Entreprise&Personnel in France. These four institutes decided to throw light on how the issue of managing older workers takes shape in companies in their respective countries and what analysis can be made of those realities today."

Migration to the European Union from African and Asian countries is one of the key issues of the political and economic agenda of the second decade in the 21 st century. This paper studies the proposals concerning tools in the scope of skills, administration and age management, which will grant to newcomers the appropriate incentives needed for action. Erroneous institutions may lead to misguided incentives, rent seeking and migrants chasing unproductive activities, which in turn does not lead to the construction of a market economy. We posit that migration into Europe should be subject to programmes coordinated at the European level. Military action cannot stop the infiltration of millions more, which in turn means that managing the new arrivals should be coordinated at the EU level, and the tools of administration, skills management and age management should be actively used in selecting, including into the labour market and activating the job potential of migrants.
