This article aims at debating the status of truth taken on by sport in Brazil, which produces it as a right that is guaranteed by the State to every citizen. Methodology included some tools of Foucaltian genealogy, which is absolutely imbricated with archeology. Laws and decrees implemented since the 1988 Constitution were adopted as a corpus of analysis. The work found many statements that make up a truth regime that seeks to produce sport as a naturally accepted right that is always present in the lives of all Brazilians. História da Historiografia: International Journal of Theory and History of Historiography
The Brazilian Congress of Sport History, Leisure and Physical Education (CHELEF) is a traditional event in Latin America which has been celebrated for more than 25 years in Brazil. Current paper, focusing on bibliographic production, investigates sport historiography in Brazil as provided by the proceedings of the Brazilian Congress of Sport History, Leisure and Physical Education between 1993 and 2016. Proceedings provided 1517 texts, of which 694 focus on sports. The history of sport historiography took into account themes, source types, historical periods, theory and methodology and the most quoted authors/papers in the texts in the Proceedings. Current sports historiography in Brazil has tried to break away from the legitimization of official narratives which proved to be universals and based on the myth of their origin. New aims, sources and theories of history were required for the social and dynamic conditions of academic events and post-graduate courses.

There are few studies on the historiography of Brazilian soccer. This article aimed at performing a necessary critical reflection about some of the most important works of soccer history in Brazil, not only in order to evaluate the state of art production on the theme, but also to stimulate methodological and conceptual reflections. We also sought to perceive how the memory pertaining Brazilian soccer was elaborated by those who wrote its histories.

With the exception of the classic texts by C.L.R. James and Ashis Nandy, both on cricket, sport has not captured the critical imagination of postcolonial theorists. While the rhetorical flourish and in-depth analysis of sports journalists have produced fascinating portraits of the motivational forces, rich sketches of the historical background, astute speculations on political linkages and even evocative ruminations on the mythic and moral dimensions of sport, these writings have barely entered the arena of 'cultural' debates. This omission is startling because not only is sport a huge player in global media industries and a significant sector in national economies, but it is also one of the most significant features of everyday life. Individual participation and team performances have become one of the most compelling ways for articulating personal and national identity. Events such as Cathy Freeman' s run in the 400-metres final of the Sydney Olympics were more significant than individual success in the race. In Tim Lane' s ecstatic words, 'Gold for Freeman. Australia the winner.' In what sense did Australia win gold in a race event? The social and symbolic significance of events such as this are still begging for critical attention. Alex Bellos' s Futebol: The Brazilian Way of Life explores possibly the richest example of how sport can serve as a metaphor to not only reflect social conditions but also influence the way a society dreams about itself. Soccer in Brazil and the Brazilian national soccer team have a unique and mesmerising history. Researches have pointed urbanization as a major factor explaining the historical emergence of sports. This paper pretended to revisit them critically, analyzing cases from very-little urbanized regions, which also got to know sports practices. This process, moreover, was spread from different points, making the identification of a responsible single centre difficult, as it is sometimes suggested.

Conclui-se que o esporte colocou-se como prática social relevante para os redatores e leitores da revista Sportsman, sendo fundamental na construção de uma nação civilizada.
This essay intends to present an historic perspective of the autonomy of sports associations in Brazil, in order to enable the analysis of the Law n. 13.155/2015, which has been recently enacted to create the PROFUT. Initially, we will present the first rules of sports organization in the country, which granted to Nacional Sports Council the power to decide over any questions related to sports associations. After that, we will approach Zico Law and the article 217 of the Federal Constitution, which ensure that sports associations are autonomous to deliberate about their own organization and management. Furthermore, the law currently in force will be examined, especially regarding the Pelé Law and the role executed by the government on providing financial resources to sport development, including through Sports Incentive Law. In this context, we will analyze some of the PROFUT Law rules that go against the sports associations’ autonomy. Finally, some international sport rules, enacted by IOC and FIFA, will be presented, in order to reveal the problems generated by the government intervention on sports associations’ organization and to demonstrate, particularly regarding football, that the creation of a league by the Brazilian clubs would still require the adequate recognition by Brazilian Football Federation.
