Resilience is the process of adapting well in the face of adversity. Objective was to determine magnitude of resilience among Grade 10 Sinhala conversant adolescents in state schools of Gampaha district. A descriptive cross sectional study was conducted. Computed final sample size was 1380. All three stages of cluster sampling were conducted applying probability sampling techniques to obtain the final sample. Study instrument comprised 14-Item Resilience Scale-Sinhala version. Magnitude of resilience was described as proportions and expressed as percentages and 95% confidence intervals (CI). Overall resilience score ranged from 15 to 98. The median was 79.00 (IQR: 70.00-86.00). Levels of magnitude were: High 11.6% (n=159; 95%CI=9.9–13.3), Moderately high 29.3% (n=405; 95%CI=27.0-31.8), Moderate 25.5% (n=352; 95%CI=23.2-27.9), Lower end 20.2% (n=279; 95%CI=18.2–22.5), Low 7.8% (n=108; 95%CI=6.4–9.3) and Very low 5.6% (n=77; 95%CI=4.4-6.9). Background: The rat race of modern life is affecting each and every strata of our society and adolescents are not exempted from this underlying stress. Lack of resilience in adolescents may lead to psychosocial maladaptation and psychopathology in adulthood. This study was undertaken to determine the resilience level and its possible predictors among adolescents of a Kolkata based school. Methods: This was an institution-based, observational cross-sectional study done from June-August’17 among 151 students of 7th-9th standards in a school of Kolkata. A pre-designed, pretested, structured, self-administered questionnaire along with CYRM-12 (‘Child and Youth Resilience Measure-12’) questionnaire was used. The scoring of each question was from 1-3 (higher score indicates more resilience) in CYRM-12 and in this study median attained score of 31 was taken as cut off for determining resilience level. Ethical issues were addressed. SPSS (v.16.0) was used for data analysis. Results: Among 151...

Resilience refers to an individual’s ability to thrive despite adversity. The current study examined the psychometric properties of the Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) in the Indian context. The sample comprised of 256 students (age M =22.75, SD = 1.36 years) who completed questionnaire measures of trait resilience (CD-RISC), Big Five Inventory (BFI), Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) and life satisfaction (Satisfaction with Life Scale). Original five factor solution did not get confirmation and further a four factor solution, through exploratory factor analysis, was selected as being the most suitable, namely, hardiness, optimism, resourcefulness and purpose. The CD-RISC appeared to be a reliable (á = 0.89) and valid measure. The concurrent validity results supported hypotheses regarding the relationship of resilience to personality dimensions and life satisfaction and positive and negative affects. Resilience was negatively associated with neuroticism, negative affects and positively related to all other variables of the study

This article aims to describe the academic resilience of secondary seminary students. Data were obtained from Garum Middle Seminary High School students, Blitar (East Java), Indonesia, in the 2019 academic year. Evidence for validity and reliability of the measurement was provided through confirmatory factor analysis. Previous research has used expert judges [1] to identify 100 items measuring academic resilience, encompassing four subscales (determination, endurance, adaptability, and recuperability). The current research used 28 of those items with the highest level of validity to create a 16-item measure of academic resilience.

This study investigate the influence of resilience and self-esteem among undergraduate college students (N=110) in Chennai district, Tamil Nadu. An exploratory design is used among undergraduate students using purposive random sampling technique. In this case, two questionnaires are administered, Self-esteem is assessed by using the Rosenberg self-esteem scale (1965) and English version of Resilience Scale-RS-14 is also used in this study (Wagnild, 2010). Correlational and regression analysis shows statistically significant relationships between resilience and self-esteem (r=0.24**, P<0.01). Self-esteem can be considered a predictor of resilience, which suggests resilience based intervention, should be provided for the students to improve their self-esteem.

Resilience is a term used to describe a set of qualities that foster a process of successful adaptation and transformation despite risk and adversity (Benard, 1995). Among the underprivileged youth only a few bright students are lucky enough to graduate from school and even college. But these students face lot of challenges in adapting themselves in higher education campus. Higher education institutions must play a critical role in fostering resilience for underprivileged youth students. The admission of disadvantaged groups to educational and training programmes is part of the wider concern of promoting their resilience building. There are various factors that hinder their promotion in educational institutions like attitude of other students, mental hurdles, inability to balance tradition and modernity, social factors, environment of family, communication, low academic inability etc. While resilience is a necessary attribute of the successful higher degrees students, resilience is an issue and shared responsibility for students, educators, institutions and communities alike. The educators in higher education institutes can use the -Resilency wheel‖ model by Nan Henderson and play the role as agents of protective factors. Educators can create higher education institutes that are havens in which resilience can flourish. Such institutes boost the success of the youth from a under privileged class as they encounter the inevitable adversities in the campus. Providing opportunities for students to feel successful, valued, needed, empowered, and hopeful can be accomplished in ways that enrich required academic studies. This paper is all about the various factors that hinder their resilience, with a few suggestions of resilience building that higher educational institutes can train the educators to follow. With educational institutions involvement as an indicator of resilience, this study explores the ameliorating effect of protective factors on competence and mastery in the educational domain in the presence of risk factors. Suggestions for a proactive approach adopted by educators to build resiliency will be addressed, by emphasizing and strengthening the environment, and not fixing students.

Background: Resilience as “the process of, capacity for, or outcome of successful adaptation despite challenging or threatening circumstances” is one of the more field. Protective factors are “influences that modify, ameliorate, or alter a person’s response to some environmental hazard that predisposes to a maladaptive outcome”. Easy going temperament and good self-regulation have been identified as protective factors in resilience. The ability to self-regulate also seems to be at the core of good interpersonal relationships and peer relationships, rule compliance, reduced risk of depression and anxiety, and a host of other areas fundamental to successful adaptation and functioning. Methods: This study was conducted during period of January 2000 to October 2001. The sample comprised a total number of 400 children between 4-11 years age and their parents and caregivers. The material for the study was drawn from the two private schools situated in Jabalpur city. Tests used in the study...

Thus, outcome studies that proved the effectiveness of resiliency intervention program was also highlighted. Literatures revealed the significant association of resiliency and academic performance among students. There are mediators factors proved to affect resiliency and academic performance of the students such as perception of stress, school engagement and level of perception to their psychological wellness. Programs and interventions anchored on resilience are proved to be effective in enhancing academic performance. Counselors can integrate resilience findings to thei...

The study examined the resilience of Indian adolescents, specifically exploring the variations in resilience characteristics between genders. The study investigated a sample of 124 adolescents from the Khordha district. The descriptive statistics indicated that there were moderate levels of resilience observed in all categories, and there were no significant differences between males and female adolescents. The results also indicated that gender does not have a significant effect on resilience characteristics. This challenges the initial belief that boys would exhibit better levels of resilience in some areas. The results are consistent with previous research indicating that resilience is affected by a range of external and interventionrelated factors, rather than being only determined by gender. Research studies emphasize the efficacy of focused interventions and support structures in bolstering resilience, as exemplified by inner-city programs and institutional care settings. In summary, the study suggests that resilience is a dynamic process influenced by several factors, not limited to gender.
