A synthesis of the development of the noosphere concept is presented, from the background and its gestation by Vernadsky, LeRoy and Teilhard de Chardin to the current ideas of scientists, researchers and philosophers, including the related concepts of global mind and planetary brain.

These notes, compiled for the Human Energy Project (www.humanenergy.io), offer an overview of the origins and reception of the term 'noopshere'. The term was originally coined in 1922-25 in Paris in the discussions between Teilhard de Chardin, Edouard Le Roy, and Vladimir Vernadsky, inspired by two seminal sources. On the one hand, all three collaborators were influenced by the work of the geoscientist Eduard Suess 'The Face of the Earth' (1883-1909), who introduced the notions of the biosphere and anthroposphere. On the other hand, Le Roy and Teilhard were in these years deeply involved in the metaphysics of Henri Bergson, who introduced a theory of evolution which emphasizes the internal, creative force that drives both the biological evolution and the development of human consciousness, arts, and spirituality.
This article examines the temporality, in the Koselleckian sense, implied in the Noosphere concept. The Noosphere, the sphere of the mind, is often evoked as a predecessor of the Anthropocene concept. The article's main argument is that the temporality of the Noosphere is evolutionary, epigenetic, vitalist and generative. Furthermore, it implies a long-term optimistic horizon of expectations that promises convergence and greater harmony among humankind. It also forecasts leaps into a qualitatively different future, in forms yet unknown to us. Finally, it is argued that traces of this temporality can be found in the Anthropocene concept of the 2000s.
The Anglican EcoCare Journal of EcoTheology, 2016
I explore Teilhard de Chardin's concept of the noosphere as a resource for ecotheology. Teilhard's Christocentric doctrine of creation suggests an application for ecotheology, but in his doctrine of human evolution and concept of the noosphere as the aggregation of human awareness Teilhard abandons his earlier commitment to a non-dualism of matter and spirit. I extend Teilhard's noosphere as a model for the more-than-human ecology that emphasises the interaction between ecological systems and human cultural and technological systems. The extended noosphere is congruent with current research in the biological sciences on information exchange and autopoiesis within ecological systems, and makes a strong connection with Biblical Wisdom themes. This model also allows Teilhard's vision of convergence on Christ-Omega to be expressed as the incarnation of relations of love within the more-than-human ecology.
Postulation The term 'Noosphere' comes from French noösphère, based on Greek nous(mind, reason). It was first coined by the French mathematician and philosopher, Edouard Le Roy.Along with him, other early protagonists, namely Vladimir Vernadsky, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, J. E. Lovelock and Edward Suess, worked out on distinct themes of the noosphere. 6 Although, stemming out from the writings of Le Roy, 7 as philosophical concept, the notion of Noosphere has been developed and popularized, particularly, by the Russian and Ukrainian biogeochemist Vernasdsky and the French philosopher Teilhard. Interestingly, Protagoras, the ancient Greek philosopher (490-420 B.C.), the founder of the Sophist school, had already claimed earlier than these writers about the supremacy of man on Earth, when he wrote and expressed that"Man is the measure of all things: of things which are, how they are, and of things which are not, how they are not. Many things prevent knowledge including the obscurity of the subject and thebrevity of human life". 8 Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky (1863-1945) was one of the most prominent Soviet natural scientists of the early twentieth century. Vernadskydeveloped the concept of Noosphere out of his theory of biosphereand biogeochemicalstudies, combining with his own work in philosophy of science. 9 His was the first publication (1943) 10 about the revolutionary theory of the Biosphere and Noosphere in English. Today, Vernadsky's notion of Biosphere has gained widespread acceptance. However, the concept of Biosphere was derived from Austrian geologist, Eduard Suess who had discussed the various envelopes of the Earth with respect to the genesis of the Alps.Vernadsky was the one who elaborated on the concept of biosphere and who is now generally
History of science and technology
The paper assesses the topicality of Vernadsky's concept of the noosphere, coined over almost twenty years starting in the early 20th century. Emphasizing the uniqueness of Vernadsky's concept of the noosphere as the transformation of the biosphere by a man using reason, we concentrate on the assessment of the utopian or realistic nature of his vision of the future of humanity. Based on the philosophical case-studies analysis, it identifies the ideological roots of the noosphere concept, the development of views on the concept in time, the role of reason and scientific thinking, the opinions of its supporters and critics, and Moiseev's related concept of co-evolution. We point out the correlation between Vernadsky's concept of the noosphere and Moiseev's bifurcation and his two imperatives as necessary conditions for the co-evolution of nature and man. We document that Vernadský did not only think about the positive role of reason in the creation and development ...
Revista Romaneasca pentru Educatie Multidimensionala
This article deals with Vernadsky’s concept of noosphere in terms of educational and ideological solutions to global problems. In turn, these solutions should help humankind survive and reveal its technological and creative potential by developing and implementing the “cosmic education” paradigm. The article aims to highlight the relevance, universality and centrality of noosphere education and consciousness as the only tool to save humanity from political and human-made disasters through essayistic and philosophical methods. Research methods mostly include philosophical introverted methods, as well as comparison, extrapolation, dialectical and metaphysical forecasting. Besides, the article discusses and draws philosophical, historical and political parallels proving that noosphere consciousness, noosphere humanism and anthropocosmism, together with system-centric paradigms, should become the basis of post-non-classical pedagogy. Finally, emphasis is placed on methodological coordin...
