The European Chapter Initiative by ACM Europe focuses on enhancing connections within chapters through workshops and feedback mechanisms. Key outcomes include increased engagement in ACM-W chapters for women in computing and a more diverse lineup of speakers in the ACM Distinguished Speakers Program (DSP), addressing challenges faced in attracting speakers in the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) field.

The panel will discuss the role various conferences have played in developing the field of HCI in academic research and industrial practice. It is composed of people who have experience in organising HCI conferences in different parts of the world. It provides a platform to the participants to think and reflect about what they are doing when attending a conference, what their expectations are and how it impacts positively their knowledge, work and career.
The current state of HCI is an amazing topology of interlinked topics and techniques, with ideas bouncing between and across other domains. What was once the struggle to identify and encourage the adoption of good practice, has grown into a massive multiplayer game, a global endeavour that makes vast forests of business and commerce possible and viable, and that potentially empowers and sustainably enables the disadvantaged in every society. The game has indeed become a serious business.

This IHC2008 (the Brazilian HCI symposium this year at Porto Alegre, Brazil) is a special occasion for our HCI community: we celebrate 10 years as an organized community. That is why we had a panel in the program with the above title. We invited some of the most prominent Brazilian HCI researchers -Clarisse Sieckenius de Souza (PUC-Rio), M. Cecilia Calani Baranauskas (UNICAMP), Raquel Oliveira Prates (UFMG), moderated by Marcelo Soares Pimenta (UFRGS), all of whom have contributed to consolidating our community -to address some issues which we believe are central to understanding HCI in Brazil. In an agile planning meeting, we decided to focus on: (i) Some historical steps that were crucial for the consolidation of the Brazilian HCI community; (ii) Some indications and challenges for the growing HCI culture in Brazil; and (iii) Some considerations about on the profile of Brazilian HCI research areas and groups and its relation with a Brazilian way of doing HCI.

The past few years has seen steady growth for the HCI Education Community of Practice (CoP), driven primarily by the "HCI Living Curriculum" workshop at CHI 2018 and the inaugural EduCHI symposium at CHI 2019. In discussions among HCI educators over the past two years, two themes have stood out: creating channels for discussions related to HCI education and providing a platform for sharing HCI curricula and teaching experiences. To that end, we are organizing EduCHI 2020: The 2 nd Annual Symposium on HCI Education. Similar to last year's symposium, EduCHI 2020 will again feature paper presentations about HCI education trends, curricula, pedagogies, teaching practices, and diverse and inclusive HCI education. In addition, we will also be adding more opportunities for discussions among and between members of the HCI education community, particularly around solving current and future challenges facing HCI educators.

Over the last 20 years, the Latin American Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) community has been working to shed light on how the diverse populations in the region are adopting, using, and making sense of computational technologies. Latin America's tense socio-political context, plurality of languages, collectivist culture, and historical relationship with the Global North make it a unique and rich space for HCI research. Considering the growing number of studies about Latin American communities and the emergent efforts to contribute to the HCI literature, we propose to host a SIG meeting at the 2020 ACM CHI conference. Our goal is to consolidate these efforts to better promote HCI research in, by, and for Latin America, by (1) bringing together researchers, practitioners, and students who are interested in engaging with Latin America through their research and practice, (2) envisioning a shared research agenda, and (3) identifying strategies for making its contributions more visible and impactful in the international community.

This year's conference returns to its foundation theme of 'People and Computers', and so has attracted a wide range of HCI work. The BCS Conference on Human Computer Interaction is the leading conference of its type in the UK and is one of the top European conferences in the field. It performs a critical role in supporting the development and success of the UK HCI community. As such, the conference aims to provide opportunities for open dialogue and academic debate that is inclusive of our entire community. This ethos is reflected in these proceedings, which represent a body of work we hope will broaden your thoughts, develop your ideas and deepen your understanding of state of the art HCI research.

CHI '12 Extended Abstracts on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2012
Participation is of high relevance to the CHI Design community. Participatory work has been performed with very different intentions: to democratize the design process; to better inform the design of new systems; to engage the public in the construction of their own futures; or simply to appease funding commitments. Whilst this increased attention has lead to a large amount of methodological innovation, very little effort has been spent reflecting on why various participatory approaches should, or should not be, used and how we can assess their impacts on the design process and products. This invited SIG will bring together invited experts who have explored participation to different degrees within their past work to provoke group and plenary audience discussion. The aim of this SIG is to provide an opportunity for discussion and reflection on how and why participative methods are used in HCI research and practice.
