Technical textiles has the diverse range of products which will lead the future world market and the researchers from the various field of science and engineering will work together for the development of these textile materials. Among various types of technical textiles, geotextiles possess very important class due to its versatile applications in roads, dams and constructions industries. Geotextiles are the permeable textile materials which mainly used for filtration, drainage, separation, reinforcement and stabilization purposes. Geotextiles is the fastest growing industry and a promising field of technical textiles. This paper presented the potential of geotextiles in civil and construction industries. The review paper will be introduced by first discussing technical textiles and geotextiles as awhole. Next, the paper will continue on to discuss the raw materials such as natural and synthetic fibers used in it, the manufacturing process and functional requirements. Finally, the functions and major applications of geotextiles has been presented. The global market of geotextiles has also been addressed here.

Geotextiles play a very important and crucial role in the civil engineering works. Geotextiles are permeable textile structures made of polymeric materials and are used mainly in civil engineering applications in conjunction with soil, rock and water, performing various functions such as separation, filtration, drainage and reinforcement. They come in three basic forms: woven, non-woven, or knitted. They are the largest group of geosynthetics in terms of volume. They are used in geotechnical engineering, heavy construction, building and roadway construction, hydrogeology and environmental engineering, etc. Geotextiles are used with foundations, soil, rock, earth or any other related material as an integral part of any project, structure, or system. The possible applications of geotextiles in civil engineering field have been successfully developed and are beneficial in terms of economics, durability and performance. They are used in earth dam, roadway, highway, rail road, and industry, stabilisation of soil of rock slopes, drainage control, tunnel construction, coastal medical treatment and foundation. This paper provides an overview of the properties, functions and uses of Geo-textiles in roadway construction.
Filter fabric usually known as Geo textile are a permeable synthetic, textile raw materials .Geo textile are generally used with foundation soil, rock earth or different geotechnical engineering related material. Geo textile plays a significant part in modern technical textile. The use of geotextile in transportation application becomes more popular in modern civil engineering sector. Geotextiles are used in civil engineering earthworks to reinforce of soil, to construct firm bases for temporary and permanent roads and highways, to line ground drains, so that the soil filters itself and prevents soil from filling up the drainpipes and to prevent erosion. The purpose of geotextile is in separation, in drainage, for reinforcement & infiltration. This paper carries the information about the overview of geotextile. For describing the geotextile, the manufacturing process, different application in different sector focusing on civil engineering transportation application, global geotextile market 2012-2016 and the market of geotextile by type, materials, & application are included. The authors have also discussed about the majors players and future of geo market.

Currently, the use of Textile is being continuously expanded in fields including medical, military, structural, telecommunications, electronics, and aerospace etc. applications. Thus the importance of the textiles increases constantly. The specific and critical character of the technical applications imposed a dynamic change in the fields of the design, engineering, production and testing. The traditional empirical approach has been replaced by the careful modeling, calculation of the properties, prediction of the behavior and the final evaluation of the performance. The modern approach is reflected on the majority of the recent research results, the patents and the scientific publications of the academic and industrial research community.

To understand textiles and their application today, as well as future applications, it is necessary to comprehend the development of textiles and their applications throughout history. The gradual development of textile production processes and the use of different materials, influenced the development and application of materials themselves. Numerous innovations made since Industrial revolution, events in technology development and international competition have shaped the industry and continue to affect the textile production even today. Nowadays, textiles can be divided into two main sectors according to their application: conventional textiles (textiles for fashion clothing) and technical textiles with numerous applications for nearly all society needs. Due to market needs and technology development, the interference of all areas of science occurs, resulting in amazing innovations that follow existing trends and set future trends in terms of interactivity, digital and electronic...
A wealth of textile structures is available for a broad range of geotechnical applications. An understanding of the dynamic interaction between the textile structure and the geotechnical environment is essential in the design and selection of textile materials for geotextile applications. Multiaxial warp knit structures and braided structures are introduced as examples of this understanding while demonstrating their potential as multifunctional structural geotextiles. This paper concludes by reviewing a new way of joining geotextiles by robotic one-side stitching technology and by examining the implication of emerging nanofiber technologies for the next generation of geotextiles.

Geo-textiles are the permeable fabrics which, when used in association with soil have the ability to separate, filter, reinforce, protect, or drain. Typically made from polypropylene or polyester, geo-textile fabrics come in three basic forms: woven, needle punched, or heat bonded. The original and still sometimes used term for geo-textiles is filter fabrics . Geo-textiles have many applications and currently support many civil engineering applications including roads, airfields, embankments, retaining structures, reservoirs and construction site. Geo-textiles have a major role in construction of paved roads over areas having high ground water table. There are several key applications, construction of pavements, in asphalt concrete overlays and for drainage systems, which helps in enhancing the performance and extending the service life of roads. Drainage of water from pavements has always been an important consideration in road design. When functioning as a drain, geo-textiles acts...
