The emergence of sensor networks as one of the dominant technology trends in the coming decades has posed numerous unique challenges to researchers. These networks are likely to be composed of hundreds, and potentially thousands of tiny sensor nodes, functioning autonomously, and in many cases, without access to renewable energy resources. Cost constraints and the need for ubiquitous, invisible deployments will result in small sized, resource-constrained sensor nodes. While the set of challenges in sensor networks are diverse, we focus on security of Wireless Sensor Network in this paper. We propose some of the security goal for Wireless Sensor Network. Further, security being vital to the acceptance and use of sensor networks for many applications; we have made an in depth threat analysis of Wireless Sensor Network. We also propose some countermeasures against these threats in Wireless Sensor Network.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) present myriad application opportunities for several applications such as precision agriculture, environmental and habitat monitoring, traffic control, industrial process monitoring and control, home automation and mission-critical surveillance applications such as military surveillance, healthcare (elderly, home monitoring) applications, disaster relief and management, fire detection applications among others. Since WSNs are used in missioncritical tasks, security is an essential requirement. Sensor nodes can easily be compromised by an adversary due to unique constraints inherent in WSNs such as limited sensor node energy, limited computation and communication capabilities and the hostile deployment environments.

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is an emerging technology that shows great assure for various futuristic applications both for public and military. Many researchers tried to develop further cost and energy efficient computing devices and algorithms for WSN but the most challenging is to fit the security of WSN into that strained environment. However, security is crucial to the success of applying WSN. So it becomes essential to be familiar with the security aspects of WSN before designing WSN system. When sensor networks are deployed in an aggressive terrain, security becomes extremely important, as they are prone to different types of despite attacks. The intent of this paper is to investigate security problems and various security requirements. We identify the attacks at all the layers of WSN network architecture and also tried to find their possible solution.
The severe constraints and demanding deployment environments of wireless sensor networks make security for these systems more challenging than for conventional networks. However, several properties of sensor networks may help to solve the challenge of building secure networks. The unique aspects of sensor networks may allow the defences not available in conventional networks. In this paper, the security related issues and challenges in wireless sensor networks have been investigated. The security threats are identified and some of the proposed security mechanisms for wireless sensor networks have been reviewed.

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have recently attracted a lot of interest in the research community due their wide range of applications. Due to distributed nature of these networks and their deployment in remote areas, these networks are vulnerable to numerous security threats that can adversely affect their proper functioning. This problem is more critical if the network is deployed for some mission-critical applications such as in a tactical battlefield. Random failure of nodes is also very likely in real-life deployment scenarios. Due to resource constraints in the sensor nodes, traditional security mechanisms with large overhead of computation and communication are infeasible in WSNs. Security in sensor networks is, therefore, a particularly challenging task. This paper discusses the current state of the art in security mechanisms for WSNs. Various types of attacks are discussed and their countermeasures presented. A brief discussion on the future direction of research in WSN security is also included.
Theory and Practice of Cryptography Solutions for Secure Information Systems
Advances in electronics and wireless communication technologies have enabled the development of large-scale wireless sensor networks (WSNs). There is numerous applications for wireless sensor networks, and security is vital for many of them. However, WSNs suffer from many constraints, including low computation capability, small memory, limited energy resources, susceptibility to physical capture, the lack of infrastructure, which impose unique security challenges and make innovative approaches desirable. In this paper we present a survey of security issues in WSNs, address the state of the art in research on sensor network security, and discuss some future directions for research.
Sensor Networks have emerged as the next big thing to succeed in the times to come and it posed to dominate the trend of technology, however they bring in their own share of challenges. Most of these network consists of thousands or more of minute sensors that work independently. Limitation of cost availability and the requirement of abundant, undetectable placements would be resultant in small sensor node that have limited resources. We would be focusing on the security aspect of the set of sensors in a network, even though we know that there are a lot many challenges for the sensor networks. In this paper we would also suggest some of the goals for security of sensor networks. Furthermore, since security is a critical issue for the sensor networks being accepted and being used for many software applications, we would also attempt to analyze the threats against the Wireless Sensor Networks, in turn proposing some measure to counter the attacks against the Wireless Sensor Networks.

Applications of WSNs are numerous and growing, which range from indoor deployment scenarios in the home and office to outdoor deployment in adversary’s territory in a tactical battleground. However, due to distributed nature and their deployment in remote areas, these networks are vulnerable to numerous security threats that can adversely affect their performance. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is a recent advanced technology of computer networks and electronics. The WSN increasingly becoming more practicable solution to many challenging applications. The sensor networks depend upon the sensed data, which may depend upon the application. One of the major applications of the sensor networks is in military. So security is the greatest concern to deploy sensor network such hostile unattended environments, monitoring real world applications.
