Abstract

Towards an Economic Philosophy. The article focuses on economic philosophy as an approach to the historical-theoretical analysis of economic theories. In particular, after clarifying what is meant by economic philosophy, the article puts forward some reflections starting from Joan Robinson's Economic Philosophy (1962) to legitimize the idea of an economic philosophy as a sui generis approach to economic science. Economic philosophy differs from a purely historical view of economic thought. By including value and temperamental, psychological, social, and historical aspects in its theoretical analysis, economic philosophy assumes a broad meta-theoretical perspective from which to perform its critical function.
