Baitul Mal Wa Tamwil (BMT) is a non-bank financial institution as an integrated independent business center which is a bayt al-mal wa at-tamwil, which is an institution that develops productive and investment businesses to improve the quality of small entrepreneurs' businesses and encourage business forms. -a form of investment with the aim of empowering worldly and ukhrawi businesses through donations, zakat and alms. In its development, BMTs face the same problems, for example problematic customers. Sometimes there is a customer who is not only having problems in one place, but also in other places. Therefore, each BMT needs efforts to coordinate in order to narrow down the movements of problematic customers. BMTs also tend to face other BMTs as competitors to be defeated, not as partners or partners in an effort to exclude people from the economic problems they face. This study aims to analyze the criteria considered by individual members in choosing Baitul Mal Wa Tamwil (BMT) and analyzing the attitudes of members towards BMT. Research subjects are individual members who use BMT services. Data analysis method is descriptive statistics. The results of the analysis concluded that there were 5 factors that were considered by the members in choosing BMT, among others: ease of obtaining business capital financing, usury-free, security, satisfying service and close to home. Religious factors are not the main reason for individual members in choosing BMT. Members consider more economic factors, namely the ease of obtaining business capital.

Notwithstanding Baitul Maal wat Tamwil (BMT) has spread tremendously over the past three decades in Indonesia, some of them faced various obstacles that hamper their effectiveness and sustainability. While some of others sustained and developed well, even in the economic crisis conditions. Hence, this study aims to investigate the factors that determine the successful performance of BMT. This study is a field research with triangulation as a mixed method approach through semi-structured interviews and questionnaires. Whereby the empirical data were collected by means of conducting semi-structured interviews with 3 managers of the BMTs and administering questionnaires to 285 employees of the BMTs. This research is based on the issues of many informal sector businesses that do not have access towards capital from formal financial institutions, especially Islamic ones that are still considered to be excluded and hard to reach. The research aims to find the best model in empowering informal sector businesses based on sharia principles conducted by Baitul Maal Wat Tamwil (BMT), in which equivalent to the sharia micro finance institution. It adopted a qualitative descriptive approach and employed SWOT analysis of the ten BMTs which actively have given funding and empowered informal sector business in Bandung Raya. The model of empowerment implemented by BMT, is divided into three clusters with the following indicators such as: the utilization of productive economic, mentoring and training. The general results of this research indicate that the majority of BMTs is in the second cluster, with characteristic activities only productive economic empowerment through Islamic micro financing and still not contribute to the social function in running mentoring and training to informal sector businesses. Additionally, based on the results of the SWOT analysis, it is found that in general BMT has the potential to develop due to the principle of justice and its closeness to the micro business in which has not been accessed or touched by other financial institutions. On the other hand, the potential is still constrained by the inadequacy capacity of Human Resources in providing business advisory services at the same time. The implication of the research shows the urgent needs for competent human resources in developing BMTs members to be professional entrepreneurs who have good spirituality in empowering informal sector business community.

MSME is a sector that plays an important role in economic development in Indonesia, seen from the significant contribution in employment. Accounted GDP, foreign exchange and giving donations. They also do not have collateral and are not good at making proposals. But with the BMT, they tried to improve the well-being of its clients with financing and assistance to customers.
