We are pleased to introduce the fourth issue of the Journal of Problem Based Learning in Higher Education. Current issue is composed of five research papers and two PBL cases. These address different aspects of PBL in higher education as and represent an international experiences and knowledge with contributions from Brazil, Denmark, Germany and Morocco. The first three papers and the two cases touch upon the role of the teacher in facilitating problem based learning processes. These papers address the complex questions of how teachers can actually implement and teach PBL to students. The fourth paper reports on students‟ attitudes towards different types of exams (e.g. individual exams and group exams) in two engineering programs at Aalborg University. The fifth paper compares three different learning designs in an introductory computer science course on programming. The current issue explores a diverse set of aspects related to research in Problem Based Learning: teachers and supe...

The aim of this paper is to share the author‟s experience of Problem-Based Learning (PBL). The paper also discuss some of the author‟s opinions and views about PBL and highlight some of the problems faced by the author as a facilitator as well as point out some of the problems faced by the students.
Interdisciplinary Journal of Problem-Based Learning, 2020
Innovative teaching concepts such as problem-based learning (PBL) can make a difference in an academic setting, particularly when dealing with diversity, and support the successful completion of students’ studies. Introducing new approaches to teaching requires the professionalization of the teaching staff and the development of new tools. As a view from the field, this contribution describes the steps taken at TH Köln - University of Applied Sciences to introduce PBL and discusses empirical and practical aspects of a university-wide implementation. It offers lessons learned from the practical application of PBL theories in a real-life setting.

The educational strategies implemented within the classroom arise from the needs that are presented in the same environment where their academic activities are developed. teacher has the leading role to strengthen their knowledge. From this point of view, the ABP seeks to develop in students a new learning model that enhances their abilities and promotes the development of their abilities. The objective of the research was to analyze the incidence of Problem-Based Learning in teachers and students of Basic General Education, surveys were applied to teachers, as a source of primary information, in the same way the deductive, bibliographic, descriptive and historical method Through this methodological process, it was possible to develop in a more feasible way the research with the study of several authors, with the collection and analysis of the information it was obtained as a result that the teachers through the contextualization of their practice focused on the use of methodologica...
The goal of this paper is to describe how the educational approach called " Problem based learning " is applied in Italian Universities. First we dene what Problem based learning is, when it was introduced into the University programs, how it was disseminated all around the world, which are its methodological characteristics and the underlying theoretical principles.
Grave, Ineke H A P Wolfhagen & Cees P M van der Vleuten CONTEXT Problem-based learning (PBL) is widely used in higher education. There is evidence available that students and faculty are highly satisfied with PBL. Nevertheless, in educational practice problems are often encountered, such as tutors who are too directive, problems that are too well-structured, and dysfunctional tutorial groups. PURPOSE The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that PBL has the potential to prepare students more effectively for future learning because it is based on four modern insights into learning: constructive, self-directed, collaborative and contextual. These four learning principles are described and it is explained how they apply to PBL. In addition, available research is reviewed and the current debate in research on PBL is described. DISCUSSION It is argued that problems encountered in educational practice usually stem from poor implementation of PBL. In many cases the way in which PBL is implemented is not consistent with the current insights on learning. Furthermore, it is argued that research on PBL should contribute towards a better understanding of why and how the concepts of constructive, self-directed, collaborative and con-textual learning work or do not work and under what circumstances. Examples of studies are given to illustrate this issue.
