interests were related to the relationships between universities and societal change with a particular focus on social sciences and humanities research, as well as societal change in old industrial regions. Paul had undertaken a wide range of basic and applied research activities for a variety of funders including research councils, HE funding councils, the OECD, government departments across Europe, the European Commission and a number of regional authorities. Paul was the inspirational leader of the work group focusing on societal impact and relevance of SSH research at ENRESSH. He was also very supportive of young researchers and their career development. Paul's work and memories about him will stay with us for a long time. This Round Table discussion is probably one of the last contributions made by Paul. Tim C. E. Engels (University of Antwerp) is head of research affairs & innovation at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, and head of ECOOM-Antwerp, the Antwerp branch of the Flemish Centre for R&D Monitoring (ECOOM). In 2008 he started the preparations for the Flemish Academic Bibliographic Database for the Social Science and Humanities (VABB-SHW), the tenth version of which will be released by ECOOM-Antwerp in 2020. Within the European Network for Research Evaluation in the Social Sciences and the Humanities, he has been brought to you by CORE View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk

Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 29 professors of the University of Vienna in order to get a better understanding of the publication habits of researchers in the SSH, to discuss the limitations of citation-based bibliometrical methods and to develop appropriate strategies in order to increase the international visibility of the research output in the SSH. The gained insight confirms that publication habits in the SSH still have deep roots in discipline-specific culture and tradition. Although it was impossible to surface an explicit preference for a certain document type, journal articles in international journals have become more important recently both in the social sciences and the humanities. In general, research assessment practices are generally regarded with suspicion and there is a low awareness how researchers can actively increase their visibility on the web. This interview initiative opened the floor for a discussion process with the researchers and the corresponding awareness-raising activities resulted in official recommendations on how to increase the visibility of SSH research output.
With this Note LERU wants to advise the European Commission to include essential Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) research in the Horizon 2020 programme addressing the societal challenge on climate change. The Note is one in a series of seven Notes complementing a 2012 LERU Advice Paper on the role of SSH in Horizon 2020 (LERU, 2012).

This report analyses obstacles that user- and data-communities and their members are likely to experience when attempting to engage with, make use of the products and services provided by, and contribute to the evolving EOSC/SSHOC infrastructure. This remit is described in section 1. The report then analyses (in section 2) the concept of user-communities, in order to subsequently distinguish different kinds of user-communities and different kinds of members. The reason for these distinctions is that the kinds of obstacles to be experienced cannot be expected to be uniform, but to vary because of the characteristics of communities and members. With respect to user-communities an important difference is whether they are included in the SSHOC Consortium (many SSH user communities are not, or not yet, yet SSHOC aspires to be also relevant for them). Additional differences relate to their organisational strength. With respect to members of user communities, the most relevant distinction ...

The SSHOC project aims to build the SSH (Social Science and Humanities) part of the EOSC (European Open Science Cloud). One of the main goals of the project is to ensure that SSH will be present in EOSC and that their specifics are taken into account. In this regard, an important point is to be able to give high visibility to the research data used in Social Science and Humanities following FAIR data principles. This can be achieved by fostering "Data Citation" through providing a common mechanism to cite SSH data and build stronger links between data and publications. An expected side effect would be to enhance the reproducibility of SSH research, which is not very common nowadays. In line with these goals, this report delivers an overview of existing data-citing mechanisms intended for citing data, that are currently used in different communities with a focus on the SSH. We then provide some guidelines describing what we think is relevant in the SSHOC context with respec...

This paper draws on the work (both published and unpublished) of members of the ACCOMPLISSH dialogue platform and their organisational partners, who have shared thoughts, ideas, research and critique throughout the first 15 months of the project. These people included academics, academic support staff, research leaders, representatives of voluntary and community organisations, policymakers and partners from industry too numerous to name, but to whom we are indebted and without whom, this work would have been impossible. We give you all our thanks.
