Abstract

This article aims to study the life and work of the architect Pedro Lopes Júnior, graduated in Architecture in the interior of the State of São Paulo, who arrived in Palmas still in the initial phase of the city’s settling. Lopes is a pioneer professional in the new capital, founder and currently a professor of Architecture and Urbanism at the Federal University of Tocantins. There are in the buildings he designed characteristics related to São Paulo’s architecture, in which elements of protection against climatic rigors, such as the use of brise-soleil, the concern with natural ventilation, cross and solar orientation are combined. His works highlights the importance of the study and the application of criteria that emphasize environmental comfort, since the city is located in a hot and humid zone, with environmental conditions not always favorable to human activity.
