TCU was chosen as the fourth collaborating center in the U.S. to focus on nursing tools, instruments and determine the best practice for the nursing profession." said Paulette Burns, PhD, MS, BSN, Associate Professor and Dean. "We began with a small group in 2005 as a dream to create the EBP fellowship and the university provided funds to do just that. We are very excited to be closing the academic-practice gap." Residential Training The TCU Center promotes the JBI mission and engages both academic and practice associates in evidence generation, synthesis, transfer and utilisation, Burns said. The fellowship program consists of two stages of residency training combined with a clinical leadership project in the fellow's own practice facility.

Fellowship training for physicians has historically been a training model for physicians to specialize their practice and develop research skills following medical school and residency. Advanced practice registered nurses, specifically nurse practitioners (NPs) practice in primary care, acute care, and specialty settings across the lifespan. Fellowship programs have emerged as a way for NPs to specialize their practice and meet the needs of an expanding health care system. This article describes the design, implementation, and outcomes of two similar yet distinct specialty NP fellowship programs: one in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics and one in Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

It provides MMH with the expert research and evidence-based practice (EBP) consultation and affiliation of a UMDNJ-SN faculty member and the resources of the New Jersey JBI Center for Evidence Based Practice. For the participating SN faculty member, it provides a clinical laboratory to pursue an individualized program of scientific research and scholarly publication. This research scholar works closely with the MMH/AH to (a) identify and evaluate existing mechanisms to support interdisciplinary health research and EBP at MMH; (b) develop and implement new mechanisms to support interdisciplinary health research and EBP; (c) implement the findings of published research using EBP strategies; (d) replicate interdisciplinary research studies; (e) conduct original interdisciplinary research studies; (f) seek intra-or extramural funding to support interdisciplinary research studies; and (g) support requirements for American Nurses' Credentialing Center accreditation for Magnet designation. The program has been successful in its first year of implementation. what are your research plans after first year of fellowship?" My colleagues and I were frequently asked this question toward the closing months of our first year of hematology and oncology training, which focused primarily on outpatient clinical care at our academic medical center. I was reluctant to answer the question because the explanation would take more than naming a mentor or a laboratory. In fact, my plans did not involve working with a translational researcher or a clinical trialist. I was searching for an alternate path for the remainder of my fellowship training, intent on pursuing a career in community-based hematology and oncology.

Background. Housestaff research training is a challenging task that is complicated by the lack of a structured process and dedicated time. The Resident Scholar Program (RSP) at the University of Cincinnati, Department of Internal Medicine was created to overcome these challenges. Methods. Interested internal medicine house staff are required to submit an application to the residency research director including a project description signed by a faculty mentor. If the project is approved, a 4-month elective rotation is scheduled for the following year. Residents spend the first month on a consult service in the subspecialty area of their research and the remaining 3 months performing their research project. The RSP was launched in July 2003.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholars program provided research funding, release time and leadership training to a selected group of junior faculty. This article describes the actual leadership training, including its development, domains addressed, learning strategies used to deliver content, and ongoing evaluation procedures. The leadership trainingwhich combined learning activities at their home institutions with in-person didactic and interactive sessions with notable leaders in nursing and other disciplines-was extremely useful, according to scholars' evaluations.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholars program provides promising junior faculty extramural funding, expert mentoring, and the training needed to be successful in the academic role. The Nurse Faculty Scholars program, which admitted its first cohort in 2008, is designed to address the nursing faculty shortage by enhancing leadership, educational, and research skills in junior nursing faculty. This article provides an overview of the program, its purpose, and its eligibility requirements. The authors give strategies for selecting mentors, developing the written application, and preparing for an oral interview. Finally, the authors provide an analysis of funded institutions, research design and methods from current and recently funded projects, and rank and positions held by nursing mentors.

The transition of new graduate nurses (GNs) to professional practice has its challenges, thus providing an established program to facilitate this journey can lessen some of these challenges. Various approaches exist to help GNs transition into their practice environment. This article describes the Houston Methodist Nurse Residency Program (HMNRP), a successful transition program for GNs within a mutli-facility health care system. Houston Methodist (HM) moved from independent practices to a unified system approach to provide a combination of centralized and decentralized nurse residency program sessions to meet the needs of the GNs. This innovative approach has ensured the success of the program. Multiple strategies are important for an effective systematic approach. Some of these strategies include (1) identifying the ideal players, including coordinators, facilitators, stakeholders, and content experts and (2) providing the resources needed to achieve the desired results.
