The aim of this research is to explore views about, and the extent of, political participation amongst students in a Department of Social Work. The sample was composed of 127 fourth and sixth-term students. One of the most striking outcomes of the research is that young peoples' political participation remains low, despite widespread dissatisfaction with political and economic systems. The results of this study and analysis are based on sociocultural and historic developments specific to Turkey, specifically the culture of fear fostered in Turkey following the military coup d'e´tat of 1980, and the influence this had in the intergenerational conveyance of the notion that the 'father government' can protect the public without the need for active political participation, which is still prevalent amongst the study participants.

The youth in the South Eastern Anatolia Region of Turkey does not and cannot participate in politics. There are various reasons which make the issue of political participation of the youth a significant concern for the social policy makers. First of all, political participation is a basic human right. Next, it is a social right and an important dimension of being a citizen. Furthermore, the issue of youth participation has gained importance in recent years especially through the interest shown by the international policy agents. Finally, despite that much importance shown, youth political participation is very low in Turkey and specifically in South-eastern Anatolia due to some regional conditions. The quantitative survey conducted with 946 young people between the ages of 15- 24 who live in the South-eastern Anatolia region, fourteen focus group interviews and twenty nine in-depth interviews indicate several reasons for the low youth political participation in the region. Initially, the youth in the region cannot participate in social life. The participation in educational services is also low. The school enrolment rates are low and drop-outs are high. Moreover, the youth cannot participate in the labour market due to the limited job opportunities in the region and their low skills and low educational level. Furthermore, a great majority of the youth lives in their closed communities and has limited contact with the society. Apart from these socio-economic conditions, the concrete negative examples of the people who participate in politics and who have been repressed are also discouraging the youth from entering into political mechanisms.

Young people express an increasing rejection of institutional politics and its classic actors, which has led to the assertion that youth are apathetic. This article intends to show why this affirmation is partial and does not reflect the underlying complexity of what motivates political participation in young people. The hypothesis is that since young people interpret the youth condition as transitory, they do not consider youth political participation an end in itself. While the youth condition does not structure political participation or constitute actors and political projects, there are specificities of youth political participation that need to be identified. For the purpose of identifying what motivates youth to participate -- and how and where do they tend to do so -- three cases of political involvement are presented: ATTAC Argentina, the Klampun Community of Papua New Guinea and the World YWCA. The theoretical sections rest on a broadly based research study suggest a reformulation of the common adult perception on youth political participation.

A Scale Development Study To Determine Attitudes And Behaviours Of Unıversity Students Towards Political And Administrative Participation, 2024
The development of democracy depends on the rise of the belief in democratic thought in the society. The functioning of democracy is possible with the realisation of participation in the administration of the country and the circulation of the results back to the people. The aim of this study is to measure the attitudes and behaviours of university students by developing a scale on political and administrative participation. This research, in which the attitudes and behaviours of the youth, which we call Generation Z, regarding political and administrative participation are measured and evaluated, differs from the scale studies conducted so far in this respect. Measuring the perception of young people, who are the future of the country, towards political and administrative participation is important for the realisation and development of democracy.

Youth in democratic activities has changed the political scenario of Pakistan. The current study was aimed to identify the youngsters towards their participation in democratic paractices and political activities. The phenomena of this study are based on the present political scenario of Pakistan and youth participation in building the political structure. The study was quantitative in nature and data were collected through random sampling techniques, hundreds of respondents participated from two provinces of Pakistan, which are Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The objective of the study is to highlight the performance of youth activities, contribution to the political participation, their role in political parties and interests in political and social matters.
