Social media is being used in various forms by many different platforms for numerous reasons. Many people define social media as applications on their smartphones, tablets or computers. It is a tool that is becoming quite popular these days because of its user-friendly features. It has become an integral part of the lives of people of all ages around the world as it enables people to communicate easily and across distances. In today's world, it is undeniable that social media plays an important role in impacting our culture, our economy and our overall view of the world. Social media has removed communication barriers and created decentralized communication channel and open the door for all to have a voice and participate in a democratic fashion including people in repressive countries. The adverse effects of these social networking sites outweigh the positive ones. Thus, these sites have caused potential harm to society. Students become victims of social networks more often than anyone else. This may be because social media is an attractive way for students to avoid boredom while they are studying or searching their course material online, diverting their attention from their work. Social media platforms have also been criticized for revealing and feeling negativity which has a net-negative effect on students. The study reveals that majority of university students use different types of social media platforms. And greater number of students agree that there are equal pros and cons of using social media networks and felt that it has effect in their studies. Based on the proverb "Too Much Anything is Good for Nothing", social media usage must be utilized in proper and rightful manner when needed. This study concludes that during this modern era it's not possible to restrict an individual on using social media networks, as it helps to develop them in all aspects to flourish in their life.

The use of social media has become widespread in recent years. It is an excellent source of social interaction, and students routinely use various social media platforms for different academic activities. This study aimed to review and synthesize research on social media usage and its impact on university students in Pakistan. The systematic literature review (SLR) technique was used. With the help of a refined search string, a systematic review of studies published in the English language between 2010 and2022 was conducted. The data was collected from the Web of Science, Google Scholar, and the Library Information Science and Technology Abstracts (LISTA) database. Thirty-one studies were selected after a rigorous review of 1244 studies. It was found that most quantitative research studies were conducted using the survey method and reported both positive and negative impacts of social media. The results highlighted that Pakistani students use social media for (1) knowledge sharing, (2) socialization, (3) political awareness, (4) job hunting, and (5) cross-cultural communication and coordination. They also support the positive impact of social media use among Pakistani students. The novelty of this research is rooted in the comprehensive search and systematic review of social media research from the Pakistani university student's perspective, which has not been unified to the present date. The results of this study would provide valuable insights to educational administrators regarding the formal adoption of social media technologies for teaching and research in the educational institutions of Pakistan.

This paper aims at exploring the uses of social media among college students in learning. This includes watching demos and tutorials, using varied online learning resources, forming online learning groups with other colleagues for the purpose of completing group assignments and practical projects, seeking academic support and advice from their instructors remotely, etc. The findings of this research will suggest recommendations for higher educational institutions to effectively use and adopt social media applications in learning which will reflect positively on the quality of academic learning in colleges and universities.

Nowadays, social networks incessantly influence the lives of young people. Apart from entertainment and informational purposes, social networks have penetrated many fields of educational practices and processes. This review tries to highlight the use of social networks in higher education, as well as points out some factors involved. Moreover, through a literature review of related articles, we aim at providing insights into social network influences with regard to (a) the learning processes (support, educational processes, communication and collaboration enhancement, academic performance) from the side of students and educators; (b) the users' personality profile and learning style; (c) the social networks as online learning platforms (LMS-learning management system); and (d) their use in higher education. The conclusions reveal positive impacts in all of the above dimensions, thus indicating that the wider future use of online social networks (OSNs) in higher education is quite promising. However, teachers and higher education institutions have not yet been highly activated towards faster online social networks' (OSN) exploitation in their activities.

Social media has become ubiquitous and almost inescapable, revolutionizing the way students communicate, interact and socialize; and has become an integral part of their social and cultural fabric. Consequently, students are spending a substantial part of their time on social media. University students and youth are considered the largest users of these technologies. Despite a growing corpus of literature on the usage of social media around the world, there is a dearth of research in Zambia on how social media affects the students' social life. This descriptive, exploratory study examined the types of social media platforms students commonly use, the number of time students spend on social media, the purposes for which students use the social media and the impact of social media use on students' social life. Two hundred and forty full-time students in the School of Education, at the University of Zambia, completed self-administered questionnaires and their responses were analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23. Results indicated that the most commonly used social media platform was Whatsapp, most of the sampled students reported actively engaging in this social media application between 31 to 60 minutes on a daily basis. The study also found that more than half of the students found themselves saying "just a few more minutes" when using social media, checked their social media sites before doing something else, felt their academic productivity suffered because of social media, failed to cut down on time spent on social media, received negative comments from others about their use of social media and felt stressed out due to social media use. Furthermore, 22.4% of students felt addicted to social media. Students used social media more for social information than for academic purposes. Social interaction is enhanced by social media use among students. Thus, productive use of social media is recommended while minimizing its negative impact. Furthermore, it is hoped that this study will attract further research in this area with more divergent and larger samples of varying student demographic characteristics.
